  1. Yep, that way you would be able to winch the wee chipper through it and start using proper equipment again
  2. What you need for blackthorn or hawthorn is a 12" bandit and dont bother doing any cutting
  3. There are some of us that stop selling when we run out of seasoned. I for one would never sell part or unseasoned when my supply has runs out, I just make sure I have plenty in hand
  4. But we should be able to burn waste which is nigh on impossible to remove
  5. I will take notice of a leaflet that says, "New to the area" such as a new fast food place, or business's getting established. But For example, a well known double glazing company cold called to give me a quote. I told them not to bullshit or barter, just give me the bottom line. Yhey did the whole "Let me ring the boss routine" and the quote went from £11K down to £3K. I just booted them out of the house I called some guy out of tompsoms local, he came in at £2800 straight away no messing
  6. I'm currently simmering my veg stew on top of the log burner. It's been slow cooking for some three hours, yehaaa Three hours of gas I've saved
  7. Any company that has ever contacted me through the above methods have turned out to be untrustworthy or conmen. It may be the preferred method of advertising for some but they need to bear in mind that ( IMO ) the vast majority of householders hold the same veiw as me, that flyposter and telesales are untrustworthy and ripoff merchants
  8. Most people dont think things out logically. I sat down and worked out the cost of fitting my burner compared to the savings over gas and even getting my logs free it would still take two years to recover the cost of the fire plus installation and then after two years I would be into saving money. Someone having to pay for logs will be into the four year mark before saving money, provided of course they got a decent burner Mine was £2k installed
  9. Interesting that, because I believe everyone with a log burner will have burnt or does burn anything and everything that does burn. A few tree surgeons burning a few branches is miniscule compared to the vast number of people burning laminates, food containers, magazines, preservative coated and paint coated woods on their fires. I think putting things into perspective, a small fire burning clean brash is hardly a serious offence, compared to some back street garage trying to get rid of a pile of tyres by burning them in the middle of nowhere on a foggy day
  10. That is happening all over the country. the oil price increase fuelled this nothing else, people thought they could get wood and logs free of charge
  11. One thing I would never ever do is employ someone who has contacted me, not me contact them. That includes door knockers, telephone cold callers and fly posters. IMO if you can't get the work in through advertising or recommendation then you either need to downsize or do something else. Sorry but thats how it is with me. To scour planning apps and get work that way is desperation and very sad. Someone who does that imo cannot be trusted
  12. If your primary job is Tree work then selling firewood is only an added bonus and should be treat as such. All my firewood sales over the year pay for the servicing of all my vehicles and machines and nothing more
  13. Ed, why were you inspecting the underneath of that branch
  14. Haha, with that mottly crew I bet it took weeks. Hand ball the big stuff out !! Blummin ek lad!!
  15. I can't believe this thread has had nearly 16,000 veiws
  16. If I get the job I'll get a copy of the consent. Controlled burn is with fire extinguishing capabilities
  17. I've got a load of Calderdale ones and it isn't on them. I went to price a job before xmas where a knackered beech was going to be a 200 yard drag so I suggested burning where it was. She showed me a section on the Kirklees planning approval stating no burning on site. I remember it well as I was going to ring them and ask if they had the power to enforce that statement
  18. So why do councils put "No burning of waste" on TPO consent notes
  19. Yep!! They're butt plugs....I know cos I saw Mick at Jonsies show wetting the end of one in his mouth to add lubrication
  20. Trouble is when you open up the angle with one leg of the rope vertical you are putting vector forces, or sideways forces on the anchor which can be bad unless it's a bomb proof anchor
  21. Thats for real men Tom Very funny though Mike, top stuff
  22. I can play the big trombone the big trombone the big trombone, I can play the big trombone, early in the moooorning
