What is your actual name - tis a pain in the backside at times trying to marry up arbtalk usernames and peoples actual names! If you are not in can it be left somewhere securely? With a neighbour? If this is a no go we need to cancel this pick up.

Haha! Please get it packed and stacked ready for collection 18th - as we already have the courier booked in to collect it!
  4. Worth milling but not overly valuable as the heartwood only makes a small proportion of the tree. But walnut is a great wood to mill and drys stable.
  5. Grrr.... You'll never beat that FR Jones for prices!! Oregon 73LPX 3/8" .058 full chisel chainsaw chain reel (100ft)

All our customers should be getting their new cs280 today - apart from Drew which should be Thurs/Friday! And I think x2 others but we sent out 15 yesterday
  8. It is hard to say if there is a best - but I rotate chains ie. try a Stihl ripping, then Oregon then Granberg... Just fitted a new Granberg on a new 54" GB bar - milling some oak the other day and it was a joy to use. I'd say the Granberg is the best but not by much - some people make their own by doing the grinding themselves. I tend to file all ripping chains to 10 degrees - inc the Granberg (all cutters). The 20 degree on the scoring and 10 degree on the clearing is not worth the time to replicate. FAQS | Alaskan Mill ? Mobile Chainsaw Mills If a set up is not a joy to use - something is wrong! Usually the chain, sometimes the bar and rarely the sprocket. Occasionally you get very hard wood and that causes issues - I find ash and yew the toughest (not always but on the odd tree - is this the wood or is this the set up on the day - who knows!).

All our customers have gone for it! Bar none...
  10. There is no need to remove the saw dogs really unless you are desperate for that extra 2"! A lot of milling is just doing it, reading about it and above all else a sharp ripping chain (which really is a semi or micro chisel chain filed to 10 degrees). Loads of vids here https://www.youtube.com/user/alaskanmilluk/videos and loads of info on arbtalk so I would spend some time browsing.

We uploaded to the Echo site for all customers of mine - so I would expect the replacement to be with you next week. Any probs PM or e-mail me [email protected] Drain the 2510 of fuel - put it in the box the 280 comes in - and tell us when you are ready for us to pick up. If you can get it to a business address all good - we can't collect on saturdays.

  13. The Granberg mill is made in the USA in a family run factory that looks after it's workers. Unfortunately that means it costs more to produce. I spent a huge amount of time and energy marketing them, websites, shows, videos etc - and all that costs money - that money can only come from selling the product. And also I need to make some profit selling them. The £ $ exchange rate now means they will be even more expensive... But hey ho - such is the way of things....
  14. The 390ESX is the newer saw and the best option IMO -lighter and same power. I have one and it is a cracking saw... I don't have the CS-450 so can't compare the 2 I'm afraid...
  15. Will look at that - but sometimes that predictive text can work against you!
  16. You have to support the mill as it comes off - that said I am working with Granberg on a kit that goes on the back of the mill to make this easier as well as easier to introduce the mill into the log
  17. I'm not into football but I loved the Welsh match - so exciting and you couldn't help hooting when that 3rd goal went in! A Wales/Iceland final would be amazing stuff
  18. I have one running 3/8 lo pro 16" bar. It is a lovely light nimble saw for smaller stuff - I am going to go down to a 14" or 15" bar though as the 16" just feels a little too long.... it drives it fine but as said just feels a little too long. The 501 itself feels lovely to use - one of Echos new offerings that feels modern (like the 390ESX and 2510TES). Light, springy and easy to heft about. Also have the 620SX - great solid saw but a larger heavier thing, less nimble but for a 20" bar it is the 620SX you want IMO.
  19. Thanks - I think a way for people to leave feedback similar to Amazon etc and reviews may well be handy for people. The only draw back is policing it! Not removing the negative comments - but removing the unhelpful ones... swearing etc etc But will def look into it - maybe a way of linking more vids etc to a product could be the way forward (and not just my ones! I mean general videos that help you understand how a product works).
  20. No prob - if you are verging on an order for a mil etc then please place sooner rather than later for current prices.
  21. There will be a price increase on most of the products we distribute of around 10%... This will come into effect on Monday 11th July. Exchange rates have been poor for a while against the US $ but now they are very low - just checked HiFx and on a pretty good sized transfer they are giving $1.30 to the £. This is still dropping... The Yen has also dropped... Our Alaskan chainsaw mills are from the USA, as are Woodchuck Tools, K+H Wedges and Save Edge files. So a few days notice on this happening if you were thinking about buying any of our gear - price rise will be on or around the 11th July. PS - please no comments on whether a good thing or bad to come out of Europe! It's done now and there is another thread for all that!
  22. It will be better functioning and there will never be any advertising on there third party or otherwise, pop ups and all other nonsense that seems to be part of the web these days!
  23. Hearing that makes the world a better place
  24. Yes could be possible to have customer feedback on products - although at times this can cause further confusion... but maybe edited feedback could be a way forward?
  25. Nope - the search function is total cack On the new site it will be far far better - more like the Sugi site - where you can put in your saw to bring up sprockets, or put the bar mount to bring up bars eg. the D009 in Sugi is VT2...
