  1. One review from one person does not really prove all that much does it! You know you can put a survey up on here and let people feedback what they think? That would be a better way of doing it....
  2. What changes were made to the chains from when they were Piranha? And why were the changes needed? Hmmm... sorry but a lot of things don't add up here in my mind. If everyone was saying how good the Piranha chains were/nothing but good feedback then why rebrand and start again?? Build on the name and brand.... Oregon and Stihl have been making chain for umpteen years. I am not against a Chinese chain but as good as Stihl or Oregon with the same quality control? It's unlikely isn't it....
  3. Cheers for the answers - so far seems like a mix of places....! Keep em coming just wondering if there is a theme or really just horses for courses! We supply DM with Sugi bars and they seem a good dealer
  4. Chain! Not interested in the exact price but do you shop around for the cheapest deal....? Or do you stick with your regular supplier and pay what they ask? Where do you buy your chains at the moment?? And why? But mainly I'm asking - how much does price come into where you buy it?
  5. We have got these in the pro lam..... and we have them coming in the light type pro... Should be a couple of weeks away or thereabouts!
  6. Thanks for your thanks!
  7. Just seen this thread (thanks to all by the way for the endorsement Did yee get yourself a Sugi in the end? The pro solid bars in 15" .325 .058 are not in for a few weeks yet... Rob
  8. I really don't get this - life is not that bad! Of course there are a million and one things that could be better.... there always will be! You have a choice if you want to get caught up in the rat race. We live in a country where you can walk around in a toga and hug trees all day long if that's what you want to do Not everyone is just out for themselves, (although to be fair most are...), but that's their choice... doesn't have to be your choice.
  9. Yep that's what I find - and it also changes with the wood type you are milling so there is no utterly hard and fast rule.

What is your actual name - tis a pain in the backside at times trying to marry up arbtalk usernames and peoples actual names! If you are not in can it be left somewhere securely? With a neighbour? If this is a no go we need to cancel this pick up.

Haha! Please get it packed and stacked ready for collection 18th - as we already have the courier booked in to collect it!
  14. Worth milling but not overly valuable as the heartwood only makes a small proportion of the tree. But walnut is a great wood to mill and drys stable.
  15. Grrr.... You'll never beat that FR Jones for prices!! Oregon 73LPX 3/8" .058 full chisel chainsaw chain reel (100ft)

All our customers should be getting their new cs280 today - apart from Drew which should be Thurs/Friday! And I think x2 others but we sent out 15 yesterday
  18. It is hard to say if there is a best - but I rotate chains ie. try a Stihl ripping, then Oregon then Granberg... Just fitted a new Granberg on a new 54" GB bar - milling some oak the other day and it was a joy to use. I'd say the Granberg is the best but not by much - some people make their own by doing the grinding themselves. I tend to file all ripping chains to 10 degrees - inc the Granberg (all cutters). The 20 degree on the scoring and 10 degree on the clearing is not worth the time to replicate. FAQS | Alaskan Mill ? Mobile Chainsaw Mills If a set up is not a joy to use - something is wrong! Usually the chain, sometimes the bar and rarely the sprocket. Occasionally you get very hard wood and that causes issues - I find ash and yew the toughest (not always but on the odd tree - is this the wood or is this the set up on the day - who knows!).

All our customers have gone for it! Bar none...
  20. There is no need to remove the saw dogs really unless you are desperate for that extra 2"! A lot of milling is just doing it, reading about it and above all else a sharp ripping chain (which really is a semi or micro chisel chain filed to 10 degrees). Loads of vids here https://www.youtube.com/user/alaskanmilluk/videos and loads of info on arbtalk so I would spend some time browsing.

  23. The Granberg mill is made in the USA in a family run factory that looks after it's workers. Unfortunately that means it costs more to produce. I spent a huge amount of time and energy marketing them, websites, shows, videos etc - and all that costs money - that money can only come from selling the product. And also I need to make some profit selling them. The £ $ exchange rate now means they will be even more expensive... But hey ho - such is the way of things....
  24. The 390ESX is the newer saw and the best option IMO -lighter and same power. I have one and it is a cracking saw... I don't have the CS-450 so can't compare the 2 I'm afraid...
  25. Will look at that - but sometimes that predictive text can work against you!
