  1. Could do......but as you say I have a dilema. It would have been my prefered choice of action.
  2. It is not a recognised public foot path, but is used by the public as a shortcut between a housing estate and an industrial estate. Here we go.....The owner of the tree (owner of industrial estate) wants the tree down. Kent County Council (who rent the car park next to the tree) do not want to lose it but want it 'safe'. The proviso on the tree staying is my telling 'the owner' that the tree is 'now safe'. If I start suggesting that paths be moved.....I'm sure questions will be asked, and the tree may get the chop....... Thats why I say.....I hope I got this right.
  3. If you look above the passenger transit door there is a young oak which has established itself. It was a mission not to damage it during the reduction. And yes, it is to have a six monthly 'check up' There is a footpath in the target area - But this cannot be moved.
  4. I was asked to do a report on an damaged Oak Tree close to a public car park. The tree has been struck by lightning about 10 years ago and kids have subsequently had a fire within the stem. It's a great tree with loads of character. But the weight of the crown (particularly the lateral limbs) is likely to be too great for the structure of the main stem (The stem has however put on 'new wood' at the edges of the damage). It's next to a stream and a magnet for kids and swings - and I really did think at one point that it should come down. HOWEVER.....I have decided to carry out a reduction of the heavier limbs / Re-shape and carry out Crown Thinning. (Crown thin to be done this coming week). Hope I got this right.......Only time will tell. I'm sure there is more than a few of you will say that it should come down......what do you think?
  5. I rarely get a good nights sleep. Won't be the first time I have put a job off ....as I'm knackered.
  6. To what spec Chris, any particular angle/width of hole?
  7. If there's room....stick a fence round it. remove any target area..... ie. benches, re-route paths etc. Then stick a Bat box in the tree.....He'll love it.
  8. Great stuff Reg.......Thanks for taking the time to put them together and post them.
  9. No need to get close. Throw a rope over the fallen stem and tie it off with a running bowline from distance. Then attach a winch to the rope and pull it away. A throwbag or hook can get the rope in place without having to get close.
  10. Still amazes me tho, when I drive from kent in my shorts and t-shirt to see my parents in Scotland. The difference in foliage (or lack of) is amazing. Usually end up putting on some strides and a fleece en route, now that I am a soft southern person:001_tongue:
  11. Think I'll give the rigging one a go Dean. As I don't experiment with that sort of thing much.
  12. Nice work....What did you do with the leaves:ohmy: Bit warmer down here. The leaves are on everything now.
  13. Good skills Pete......Don't ya just love it when you go to put the gob in......and there's nothin there:scared1:
  14. Here's a call out we went to last night (photo's taken this morning). Tree came over the road and landed on house.
  15. No experience of it myself...However found this http://www.peterboroughdiocesanregistry.co.uk/trees.html Hope it helps:wave:
  16. QUOTE......now the issue is these trees sit between a drystone wall and the river bank. The owner of the fishing rights say their not his, the LA say there not theirs, the two adjoining landowners say there not theirs, so the question is whos are they......QUOTE Tell them the timber is worth 5 Grand................You'll soon find an owner:drunk:
  17. Been in France Offroading in my SJ. Camping and on the Mick Jagger:wave:
  18. I prefer not to top out a conifer thats staying. You don't normally have the room....and even when you do you could break one of the laterals that is supposed to be left....and it may ruin the shape. I tend to get as high as I can and dismantle the laterals.... then section/reduce the main stem to a decent lateral so tha it doesn't die back.
  19. Mac McLennan

    New guy

Good to have you on board M8TY
  20. Nope....These were taken today. Here's another couple.
  21. I came across this whilst out walking in a local park with my two dogs. Is this really the spec that councils require, and parks officers accept......and we pay for. My two 'fully grown' border collies are to give you an idea of the depth of woodchip.
  22. Thanks for the link...I missed it this friday.
  23. Yes....unfortunately I remember it too Pete:proud: Even had the collection of toys.
  24. Could be an echo mike as well......although I've never seen one:icon14:
