  1. I would disagree......get off your 4r5e and get a letter out with your card : Housing Associations, Estate Agents, Schools, Parish Councils, Building companies, Landscapers, and anyone else you think could use your services. Do a search on yell.com for the addresses. Do your own postcode first and advertise yourself as Their local tree surgeon when you've covered everyone in your area....start expanding your search. You can also get permission to hand out flyers at large garden centres.
  2. Absolutely.......I use flyers. They are however very good quality card as they are easier to put through letterboxes. I have had phone calls months later than delivered, and I think that is down to the quality of the flyer.......ie people keep them.
  3. I get a guy in who has his own stump grinder. I don't get enough requests for stump grinding to warrant buying (and running) a decent machine.
  4. Weaver - great back support and comfy leg straps.
  5. Cheers Jonsie...Sending PM now:wave:
  6. I'd love one - but I can only just see my laptop without reading glasses
  7. Weeping Beech
  8. Have a good one Lee
  9. I am a great believer in the old saying If you have nothing to say - don't say it I don't think people are intentionally giving miss information. I just think they sometimes feel the NEED to get involved in a thead that they probrably shouln't.
  10. Bet that cost more... than having a tree surgeon do it:proud:
  11. 3.5 tonner. If you haven't got a chipper you will need it's capacity so not a cabstar (too Narrow), although you can get them places you won't get a transit.
  12. Got my tickets too. I shall be there with couple of lads that work with me.
  13. If someone is Vat reg or ltd company, I believe you can look up their last couple of years turnover - tho it might cost you a couple of bob. It is done through companies house. Correct me if I'm wrong!!!
  14. Really...Did not Know that. Screwgate is dangerous IMO. Always use a 3way.
  15. The weight will help it......Keep stuffing the pasties:proud: I use 12/13mm climbing rope with 10mm Prussic which is spot on (16 Stone). I use the simple Prussic method but with two long ropes (different colours).... and it prevents that loop on a single line getting caught up all the time.
  16. I have a hand winch (2 ton) But I am after a small hand winch which is 'less effort' to deploy. You know.......The tree that probrably don't need winching but you just want to be sure. What do you use.
  17. LOL:proud: Most people think it looks like a 25 man life-raft......It's a good bit of kit though. Always got all the gear on board for all eventualities.
  18. You also need to consider advertising. I choose the name Acorn Tree Surgery as I new that I would be one of the first in the Yellow Pages and Yell.com. The downside is that you usually get to see a job first and others can undercut the price you have given. The good bit is that when there is storm damage, you are the first one they call........and they just want it sortin quick ....so don't tend to call for a cheaper quote. People always remark on how they remembered the logo on the truck, which I think helps.
  19. Good Plan:icon14:
  20. Condolences to the family and of course his friends at Allan Russell Tree Work. Keep safe everyone.
  21. .:wtf:Bloody Hell.......I'm not sure that I would pass it myself .......and I've got tickets up to CS41
  22. In the past I have used a company called East Kent Training (nr dover) for my lads chainsaw training. In the past they have done both CS30,31 on a five day course then pay to be assessed. (One course fee - and one assessment) BUT NOW they want to do a 2 day course (CS30) then assessment. Then CS31 4 day course then ANOTHER assessment. This has almost doubled the cost of the course which I had a guy on two years ago. ......Is this now the norm to do it in two stages??? And does anyone know of anyone who can provide the same service (CS30,31) in south east kent???
  23. I pay £1300 with trust. 55,000 turnover - One full time employee 5million PL 10miliion EL 500,000 Prof Indemnity Cover No Height restriction 3 metre below ground cover They will not give you insurance without all the tickets Loler etc.....and they want copies of all cetificates.
  24. Where abouts in KENT is the work?
