  8. Names Mac...Cheers fellas. The accountant is right enough then.
  9. I'm sure this would become a regular thing.....Maybe even two days a week.
  10. All of what you say is spot on. There are many Jobs I do where I don't particularly like the attitude of the people I'm working for. I just think the pros outweigh the cons. But, I have only been doing this for nine years now and may not be the best person to judge. Some of these guys on here have been doing it yonks (maybe you have) and so I could sorta understand.
  11. So did I?????
  12. Have you lost your marbles.......Kitchen Fitting.....Do you really think that you could do it long enough to make any money. Just imagine the first time you drive past a tree firm doing a dismantle.............
  13. I have been asked to carry out tree work for a larger tree firm in my area. The accountant has asked me if I am in the CIS Scheme.......so I told him no. I have looked on the revenue site and read up on it ....but to be truthful I find it all a bit confusing. Can anyone put this in plain english for me.
  14. My local office does not......But I know Skipton office does for sure .......as I have just been sent a renewal quote. I think it;s a geographic thing which is mad.
  15. Only if it is too much money to loose, or I have a bad feeling about the person. Remember there's little sense in giving a quote if they do not ACCEPT the specificaton, cost and terms in writing. That way you cover your 4rse getting paid. Especially on emergency work. I always keep some blank quotes in the van....Just incase.
  16. Here's my Suzuki SJ DOING SOME TREE WORK [ame= ] [/ame] COMPETITION IN FRANCE [ame= ] [/ame]
  17. In that case he must be 55 isshhh......Was Jack still climbing?
  18. I pay £70 per ton in South East Kent.
  19. Well fella's I'm 49 on the 26th of this month ....so don't forget my pressies:proud:. I attended a City & Guilds course (Merrist Wood) at the young age of 40 when Jack Kenyon was there. Prior to that I had 22 years in the Royal Marines mostly climbing and skiing in a mountain and arctic warfare unit. This contributed towards my hips being replaced at the age of 41. I still climb about 50% of the jobs I do...... ....and always do the dodgy ones. IT'S BETTER TO BURN OUT - THAN TO FADE AWAY
  20. Yes, I have just had a quote from the skipton office. Tel: 01756 793516 Spoke to Helen Duke....very helpful
  21. All of your points are very good........But what do you ALLall do when after saying this..... I let the customer tell you they want their tree cutting off just above the main stem to allow more light in and then explain to them gently what problems are associated with doing that and have they thought of.... they say ............I hear what your saying but we would like it TOPPED anyway. Me personally: I would never have done the work at all until recently. BUT....If it is in a back garden outta site, I now do the work. WHY? Because if I don't - my competetors (who are also very good tree surgeons) will. And at the end of the day blokes need paying. And I'll bet you that 50% of the trees that we all work on, do not really need the work. Sorry for going of on a tangent .....
  22. Your over fertile mind is what keeps you alive.........It's a good thing
  23. I cant read
  24. I'm not with Big A on the H&S issues in a magazine. I want to pick up a mag and chillout and look at some action phots of the guys at the sharp end....and it would be nice if it made me smile:proud: If I want to look at H&S issues there are plenty who cover them on there websites.....as we all know. I understand that suppliers must advertise to help pay the mag overheads. But sometimes the magazines tend to be full of the stuff. Bet most of us would pay good money for a good mag.
  25. Cheers fellas, you have all been very helpful.......especially the buisiness about the exemption......I shall chase that up.
