  1. Great colour. Best to stand out so costumers can see you. - easy to remember.
  2. Yeah i think your are right. depends on what you beleive in. if you are very much into conservation but will fell a tree because you need the cash..then you are not living in an honerable way. I have recently set up a deal where costumers spend over a certain amount then i will donate so much to amazon rainforest re-planting...kind of helps me remove my carbon footprint. fell a couple trees here and plant somewhere else. I do think in the long run honesty pays off.
  3. Yeah, they thought it was a lime. sometimes i ask on the phone..but most of the the time they don't know. The one near the house i should have asked for its size and distance to property. win some lose some i suppose.
  4. Thanks for replies. Yeah i do feel good after i have walked away from job because i feel like i saved a tree. I also think that the longer you do tree work you end up becoming more into conservation and i hope that in 10 years time i won't be a certified tree hugger / hippy chaining myself to leylandi's.
  5. Things have slowed down a bit lately and i have not had much calls until yesterday. I went and quoted 6 of them today....but 4 did not need much work done. 1/ Deador - cedrus deodara aurea. 25 years old with perfect shape. told costumer is is a nice looing tree and just to leave it be. - Costumer happy with honesty... 2/ Large ash - costumer wanted it removed as it was dead ..was not dead..just not in leaf and all it needed was a deadwooding job. told them i would come take a look again when it comes into leaf but most likely it won't need removed. Costumer happy with honesty. 3/ Small birch - Costumer worried about roots on foundations - tree was far enough away. told them to leave it be. 4/ Large branch on beech in middle of garden costumer wanted removed - would have really changed structure of tree and i did not think it was best for the tree so told them to leave it and maye just take some weight of them end. full day job turned into small 1 hour job. I have been honest with all my jobs and told costumers that they need to think about conservation ..this has lost me a lot of work and with things slowing down ,expense of driving around looking at jobs. It makes me think - 'Its my helath or the trees health' I also find that about 30% of costumers don't care about there trees and just want it felled or topped. When giving these costumers professional advice they look at me funny and i already know that they will get joe bloggs to hack it down. oh well.
  6. agree ..the body adapts to what it does regular. abut after it adapts to climbing and you want to become even more beastly at climbing then do bodyweight stuff like chins, pistols etc. getting a strong grip helps
  7. Steve how do they compare to Clima Air Zermatt GTX boots? I have had these for a year and there is now no grip on soles anymore..shame really as they have worn in good and are comfortable now. Looking for a new boot thats similar to these but not as stiff. cheers
  8. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAb-rIkUrME]Duckbill Earth Anchors Introduction Video - YouTube[/ame] Here is clip with ground anchor. this ground anchor really could come in handy one day.
  9. Was going to set one up yesterday but tree ended up to risky ( decayed at base ) i just cut 'n' chucked everything. Another tree or vehicle may be best anchor it somtimes is hard to find a tree that is good location or get vehicle where you need it. I was thinking about positive and negatives of this the other day..i suppose the negs of a ground anchor is hitting underground utilities, roots and working on embankments. would be great is someone could design something for this...more than a couple of occasions i could have used a ground anchor for ziplining.
  10. Might be because it is dead, twin stemmed pine and they do not want to shock load the stems incase of failure. looks like it could be weak attachment of stems possibly at base. Crane is safer and faster option. I might be wrong though!
  11. nice vid. was speaking about how they should design some type of ground anchor for ziplining the other day. has this already been designed??
  12. yeah i was reading that too. 15% next year in states.
  13. tcia practical rigging, art and sceince or rigging ( books and dvds ) - they have a channelon youtube. youtube vids..lots of info out there

  16. Inflammation is the killer. Manage you diet, exercise and stretch often and don't work 24/7. Easier said than done though!! worked from 7.30am and was home at 9pm yesterday.
  17. TR Register Ethanol increase to 10% in 2013. what will this mean for tree workers? chainsaws will be in for repairs more due to carbon buildup. woodchippers and our vehicles.
  18. 7.30am till 7pm most of the time ..then home to email quotes. I do the work around 4 days a week anbd do quotes, fix equipment , paperwork the other 3. 80 hrs total work a week is common for self-employed tree surgeons. you only get out what you put in.
  19. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3CzyBFLfkI&feature=related]Willow tree cut down as neighbors protest - YouTube[/ame] weird hippies. They should spend less time smoking trees and more time planting them.
