  1. I agreee the are a waste of money for sure. I had pair of tree surgeon boots that cost me £150 i nipped the toe with 017!! and it cut right through into my sock..just missing my toe. i put pics on here few years back about this. a pair of steel work boots would have offered me better protection.
  2. USED Stump Grinders, RAYCO RG13II STUMP GRINDER offered for sale £2150.00 This ones looks like its in good condition.
  3. Either thinking about alpine magnum or small rayco.? I don't have much experience with these machines so recommendations would be great. Must be portable enough for 2 to 3 men to carry for tight access sites and budget of 3 to 4k Thanks.
  4. Like every Agency. they will take a cut of you wages...best to apply direct.
  5. I lose 50% of work quoted for due to this which is about 4 days every month driving around quoting wasted ) 50% of 8 is 4. I win approx that amount. Its not a bad situation just looking for tips on tendering and what others would do in my situation...response is that 80% would just stick to subbing.
  6. Tony, you writing this like someone has done this too you before? You do not have all relevent information from my situation to post such an offensive post. Betrayal of trust etc etc, Like i have stated many times they are getting the better deal and should be apprecaitte me more than the other way around. I have all the relevent insurances, staff, equipment etc etc to undertake these jobs for them at a very good rate - plus i am quoting all the work. If this compnay done all the quoting and just asked me to do work based on a day rate i would be more than happy to do this and would not bother chasing same tenders...BUT!...I am doing all the quoting for them at cheap rates to win the work so i don't spend 2 days a week driving around all day quoting foe nothing..and they are putting large percentages on top and losing much of the work because of this...what do they lose? nothing!..but i lose 20% of my working week driving and quoting to gain nothing. I would say that it is not me that is greedy..but this company. them its stricly business..so who cares how many jobs I win as long as they can make money for nothing on some of the jobs. I am not trying to save the local authority money...I am trying to win more work for my business Good business decision for them is to use sub-contractors and good business decision for my self to tender direct. The only thing i owe this company is thanks for opening my eyes up and giving me that extra bit of motivation to grow my business so i can tender direct and make a better living. I can understand that maybe Business is not to great for you Tony and risks like this this may seem silly to you..but in my case business is good and growing at a steady rate so it makes perfect business sense to tender direct. Thanks for you well informed post.
  7. Listen i do agree with some of the stuff you are all saying...and it sure is easier sub contracting!..but being a sub contractor will not really help your business grow that much. When it comes to loyalty..it think the other business would drop me and choose the next cheapest sub contractor if they had the chance..and its strictly business so if a opportunity comes my way i will take it as i am sure many others on here would also. You ned to undersrand that i spend 30% of week driving around quoting these jobs and winning less than 50%. now ..thats bad business in its self and i am not making much from the jobs i win...so the best business decision for me is to still quote the work but try to do it so i can win more of the jobs and the only option i see is quoting directly so local authority. What i a was looking or in this thread is tips on whats the best way to go around this rather than if it is or is not Morally correct to tender direct and quote against the company thats supplies me these jobs. The be honest i could not care about the other company that passes me work as they are making money for nothing from me. Biting the hand that feeds? morrally incorrect? ..it does not matter as its business...and every other business i know is out there trying to make a buck for nothing...i am just trying to offer my skills directly to local authority for the correct rate that i origianlly quote for. Simples.
  8. Thanks for all replies, Jamies post hit the point bang on....the bigger picture. Quote of inspiration for all negative folk on here - ' greatest mistake a man can make is aiming to low ' Anyways i after hours of phone calls a have found the key contact and will be tendering for the new tree works. Biting the hand that feeds. Lol.
  9. Between 18 and 30 your testosorone levels are highest which means strength gains and recovery time from exercise is faster. It drops at 1% a year after age of 30 unless you know how to optimize your hormones through food, exercise and sleep. Generally speaking most people are at the physical prime up to age of 30...but most people become more efficent in the work and training after 30. Its like the Murray V Fedderer match thats on just now.
  10. So, true. I know many 50year old 20year olds if you know what i mean.
  11. don't know. don't have kids. Just guessing from how much i spend on food monthly. save on food and pay at the doctors.
  12. yip ther sure is! Calculated risks ..and if they are mistakes then its a lesson. ' I can't learn from my successes i can on learn from my mistakes. ' -Someone smart
  13. I'm telling you the are the best for overall strength. kettlebells are good also..but better for conditioning. gymnastic training will find your weaknesses and make you train them as perfoming skills like front lever, handstands and iron cross are not possible without correct mobility and tendon strength and maximum body tension. you need to look at the progress in years rather than months and think about training skill movements maybe 3 at a time rather than body parts. Look at it like this...why add weights to exercises if you can not master your own bodyweight first. lifting weights is easy...getting strong ain't.
  14. Why do ok? ..and not trying to cut up supplier. trying to tender for work that everyone has the right to tender for. Best advice i have been giving is when the goings gets tough the tough get going. well if you apply for work and chase work ike you have none ( even when you have plenty )..then business will do well. If you sit around waiting and being scared to chase bigger contracts then things will stay the same.
  15. 10% of income on food? average low earnings between 2 a couple is 2k a month. at 10% thats £200 a month to feed lets say 2 kids and 2 adults...i doubt that is correct... try 40% today also. I eat about £600 of food a month myself
  16. You know thats what i had thought...but up here many Companies with turnover less than 250k tender directly to council for tree surgery work. Might try to tender to different council first and see how that goes.
  17. thanks for replies. seems i have been mixed up regarding insurance as a sub-contractor. yeah i might leave it for now after getting tips here. Will wait till i have more business accreditations to my name etc before applying for larger tenders. they sure don't make it easy for small businesses to grow.
  18. Better of with olympic gymnastic rings. cheaper and you can hang them anywhere. will get you 10 times fitter and stronger. Gymnastic Bodies | Worldwide Fitness Community
  19. I am looking for different opinions. Like you say i could lose all the work so maybe i should just be happy with what i have. Tough decision as rupe says it could be large companies getting sent through little jobs and it could be to much hassle for the council to have so many different trades.
  20. its good to hear other points of view. some food for thought. I think you are all forgetting that this is public contracts. I am not approaching there clients though..e.g public contracts scotland. Local authority work can be tendered by anyone. All i am doing is trying to tender direct so my business gets the full benefit from the work. I would never approach clients of another contractor when working for them as a sub-contractor but in this case it is different as the goverment encourages other businesses to tender for work esp in this climate as they are after best quotes. I am sure that the local authority would rather have Arb company quoting and undertaking the work direct for cheaper than having a middle man with no qualifications put a large percentage on top. ( I lose 50% of work quoted for due to this which is about 4 days every month driving around quoting wasted ) the benefits outway the risks. - win more work, build good relationship up with local authority and build business more. I think a lot of folk are scared to take any risks and thats why cleaning, security ( jack of al trades ) companies are subbing out tree work to established tree surgery companies.
  21. Not biting the hand that feeds. I am quoting the work ..but they add there large percentage on. When competing against another 3 companies for the work that can make a big difference to winning ro losing the work. I do all the work inc spending many days driving around quoting...so when work is lost they don't lose anything..but i do. Also its stricly business Skyhuck so applying to tender direct is not back stabbing esp when i am the business with the skills / equipment. Thats how businesses grow. yeah i may end up losing out on both...but taking risks must be done to succeed.
  22. of course you can. the 2's know who there are. they will be found in threads like ' pimp my harness' and 'new rope needed to match my helmet & boots'
