  1. Spudulike, Not Many mechanics are like yourself. I think most of them don't care. I handed 4 saws into a shop just to get new pullcords and springs replaced ..very basic stuff. Got them back with everything replaced and fat bill. one one of the bills it said ' tried to tune ' and charged me for it!!! wth! and another saw i had to fix myself when i got back home.
  2. I have been thinking about getting on a course to become better and fixing stuff myself but really don't have the time.
  3. Tim. Risk st, Clydebank. Yeah pointless pollarding it as it would look hellish and most likely just die anyway. It does look hazardous so best to fell.
  4. best thing i can suggest is exercises and diet. Amazing what a bit of strenght training can do for your confidence, outlook and energy. Hardcore tree climbing also helps.
  5. auto tune may be the wau forward!! I have handed my ms 020 ( only couple years old ) into 3 different chainsaw repair shops in ..everytine i have been given it back it is still not tuned. In the shop just now..they told me the problem was fixed...I went around and fired it up in shop BUTthe saw still was not working...gave them a couple of tips of what it could be and left it with them again. its supposed to be there job to fix small engines..its a fricken small chainsaw not the QE2 engine. Whats the deal??
  6. Yeah i was thinking hat myself. it dos look lik sime new construction was done a couple years ago in back garden.
  7. Will maybe talk to costumer about inspecting the crown ( take better pics and re-post ) Would a crown reduction of dead wood help? and taking of some of the weight on right hand side? Client wants it down but i am getting softer towards tree.
  8. Ash tree in conservation area. Tree has severe dieback on crown. It has a large lean and is very heavy one side with lean. I could not see any decay at base or on stem at all and i did not see any signs of disease / fungi after good inspection. ( there is fungi growing on dead branches about 40ft up ) It looks like it has slightly moved at base at wall has fresh crack in it. If tree failed it would cause a lot of damage and pics don't do it justice for its size. costumer says it has died back hard over the last few years. Any ideas why it has died back so hard ?
  9. Hi Graham, Thanks for your post. I have recently been thinking if i should join them or not but aftern hearing this i think it will go on hold until i hear more reaplies to this thread. I have heard bad things about aaac before. - 'pencil pushers with no real world idea of tree work' but i was skeptical until now.
  10. Ford : Mustang Ford : Mustang | eBay chek this out. far better than gone is 60secs.
  11. Peter. I do agree that it costs a lot to be member of all these assocations. But if it needs to be done for you to win contracts then so be it. I am sure if you are quoting local authoity work then you can add divide your expensies and just factor this in as expense?
  12. Man if i had the money..i would buy that today. what a car.
  13. def a fan of american muscle cars. Would love a 1969 dodge charger rt or a buick.

  15. man. sounds like he needs another kicking. what a nobber.
  16. can learn a lot from that vid. strength in numbers. If people stand up to criminals in numbers then they don't stand a chance.
  17. My groundsman had to put up with my ranting all day after that phone call.
  18. phone conversation with a costumer- C. I would like a quote for removal of 20 x 30ft leyandi's M. No problem, pleae give me your details. C. Can you not give me quote over phone ( classic line! ) M. Not really as many things i take in factor before quoting..it can be anywhere between £500 to £5000 C. Oh really! thats ridicilous! My neighbour says he will di it for £300. M. We are professional, insured company...is your neighbour a qualifed tree surgeon?? C. Yes. He works for council. M. As a tree surgeon?. C. No. M. If he is not qualifed tree surgeon then i doubt he has the skills to deal with removal of large trees safely and he will not be insured which means if anything happens to your property and member of public he is not liable. If he is claiming to be a tree surgeon but holds not tickets he is classsed as a rogue trader. C. He is not a rogue trader and i am not interested in getting a professional to do the work...as it will be professional prices! M. would you get a a corgi certifed contractor to deal with your Gas or joe bloggs who will do it for beer money?? Any why are you calling me then?? C. Not interested. Goodbye. Ah...the joys of working for uneducated public!
  19. smashed my finger to pulp yesterday. closed the chipper shoot to hard and forgot to move my other hand...couple of laps around the neighbourhood to walk of the pain.
  20. Take them to small claims court...or at least send a letter stating that you will. Terms - I always state - payment within 28days upon completion of work as agreed to the proposed price uopn receipt of invoice. Late payments will receive 0.8% interest charge per day after 28 days and collection agency fees will be added to total price...or something like that. I Had similar probs i the past.
  21. Atree - yeah no vid..dam helmetcam recorded everything except the good bits. Shame..the beech was bigger than it looked in pics and growing right over roof. dog tag - I don't know much about photography but will keep that in mind next time. Majestic - Scotland - it was hot and sunny, windy and hale stones in same day.
  22. Agree with Tom on this one. As long as your 3.5t doesn't attract attention you should be ok. I was thinking about doing my LGV this year..but having larger vehicle will cause me much more hassle and i will need to put my prices up also. 3.5t is ideal for getting into tight driveways and since most of my work is residential it makes sense. I also run a canter and with tools and 3 men it is prob already overweight. don't dare to think how much it weighs with chipper and load...well paranoid of getting pulled over.
