  1. wow. awesome pics. what height were the trees?
  2. Really cracking place benmore. spent a day there last year.
  3. Bought the new Lumic camera and was suprised by the quality of pics it took. 10 pics in 1 second! and 20 x zoom. Not bad for little camera. here is some action shots..really good because you can see what th forces of the timber are doing. Well impressed!
  4. used it with distel then Vt, But Scotspine1 showed me Swabish and it bites a lot better. the Vt needed to be dressed more and the distel was to tight. Was using a 8mm ocean polyester to 11mm line before which worked good..ordered wrong size ( 10mm ) of ocean polyester and used it on 11mm line today..kept slipping.
  5. make sure you spikes are sharp.
  6. Thought i would start a thread on physical ailments caused by working with trees. List injuries and physical problems caused by tree work. I'll start - I have bad problems with both hands and sometimes i struggle to open a jar of jam. I think this is overuse is climbing and the inflammation can take days to repair. I also have hip problems from spiking trees and have developed a dominent right leg. My left foot is also goofy and need to stretch often to keep it in check. Only 29!. I do kettlebells and stretching usually 4 times a week tp strengthen week areas etc. Would like to see if these are common probs
  7. My hands do the same. Its tree work - knackers the body. I get my hands closing up as if i am holding a rope. Must be muscle memory.
  8. expensive to run. hard to get into to tight access. Much more faster and cost effective to climb but for older tree surgeons looks like a ok idea.
  9. Rookie means beginner. doh!
  10. that was cool. :001_cool:
  11. I have had calls with rookies with less than 2 years exp asking for £80 a day..and when they tell me how much they want i am not interested...this is people who are unemployed calling around for work..but asking silly rates....and in turn losing work because they over value themselfs. rookie gets exp and a chance to climb and learn..when they start making money for a business then they will get paid more ..simples.
  12. Take what your given until you prove yourself. I have had many calls recently from rookies looking for work. I have had rookies out who want over £100 a day but can't do a very basic removal & i about 3 rookies fresh from college wanting around £70 -£80 a day..and then overtime on top! Colleges are firing out hundreds of beginners who all have tree motions, hitch climbers and Vt and all the fancy gear ..but no frickin idea!. You think because you LOOK the part you are going to get paid well?! When i started out i worked real hard for £25 per day then worked up to £50 a day after couple years. Advice: If you rookie ..and are after work and calling around - Don't dicate to the business owners you are calling with how much you want per day...go to a day a day or 2 with them and they will tell you how much you are worth. Rant over.
  13. Groundsman with ppe needed this week for site clearance work. Call or email. 07872147453 [email protected] Martyn
  14. Lol. I has that coming! Like the Mcdonalds Idea. More excuses for a burger. What about Pdf files, microsoft word docs.. Is it similar to a laptop?
  15. Getting really busy and thinking about getting an IPAD for work. I do most of my quotes by email and could do with saving time by knocking a couple off at lunchtime. How do they work? is it similar to a phone or do i need wifi spots? Any good business apps?
  16. Just leave it on and get on with the job. Where do you guys get all the time to play around with equipment..i can barely find time to maintain my saws.
  17. Hi Craig. work till 6pm in summer and i try not to work weekends. Thanks for reply anyways. Martyn
  18. Groundsman needed this Monday and Wed. Just for chipping and dragging. - Might lead to further work. Martyn 07872147453
  19. I know someone who has a very successful tree surgery business and still does not own a chipper - mashing down still...but very professional outfit and good clients. Woodchipper, nice van, all the gear does bot mean anything....rogue traders has shown this on many occasions.
  20. Nice kit, I take it that you do a lot of big removals?
  21. if you want experience the send C.V's out then call and tell them you are willing to work for first week for free if need be. Guy working for me just now called me and says he will work for free...i was not going to have someone work for free but i was impressed with his positive and determined attitude on the phone. He is now on a decent wage for beginner and his knowledge is growing and he will be a good climber. after a hard weeks work he offers to take my chainsaws away with to sharpen and get ready for next week, always invests his money in tree gear and goes climbing on weekends for practice - If you have an attitude similar then you will do just fine. On the other side i have had guys with no tickets and little exp call me and say they would like 100 a day because of there travel expensies and they have been told they should get that much being a tree surgeon. HEAD IN CLOUDS.
  22. Thanks Guss and paul. Paul pm me nearer the time - may still need help around then. No one is Glasgow looking for work? Pay is decent depending on experience and i'm easy going as long as you work hard as me.
  23. Groundsman needed - climbing tickets a bonus. Getting very busy and need somone for possibly next few months. Must have own PPE. PM DAY RATES
