  1. Great read Tom. Well written and thought provoking. I was at a barbecue on the 4th of July with some friends. There were quite a few doctors and bankers there. When asked, I said I was an Arborist. It seemed to go down well with that crowd. If I was with a group of friends in a local pub, I would probably use the term Tree surgeon. I think if you are aiming at the upper class customers the term Arborist is more appropriate.
  2. Got your pm mate but busy unfortunately.
  3. Great vid. You using the rope runner now mate?
  4. wasn't worth the risk mate to rig it, too much decay in the stem low down. fair play to him he had the tree down to about 3 metres by 10.30.
  5. Exactly Dave. He would have been happy, as would any of us to dismantle with a crane. He did have a bit of a moment up there but all good. But didnt think it would be fair to expect us to dismantle it like that. Which I think is a great quality and I have respect for people like that.
  6. Just checked. I got mine August 2013 of Alex on here. It was barely used but about 6 months old. Best 270 quid I have ever spent.
  7. Who advanced the timing on your Rob? I have been meaning to drop it into Spud but been a bit busy. 10mm hole in the muffler, retuned and it's a cracker. Must be 2 years old now and still going strong.
  8. Some pics of the pruning work in Frederickstad. An old town surrounded by a moat. I think it was 17 trees pruned and one fell. Deadwooding, lift and cut back from buildings. Rich
  9. Had a knackered Pine to dismantle today. Ideally the boss wanted to get an 80t crane but the outriggers would have meant a road closure and diversion. Heavily decayed at base and about half way up with a full crown above. Close to property and live cables and utilities. The boss decided to dismantle it by hand, no rigging and cut and chucked the lot. We had had a heavy three days in Frederikstad pruning a lot of large mature Limes. 36 hours work in three days so the boss did this one to give us a break. Timber being picked up tomorrow. Rich
  10. Only ha d a couple of climbs on it and it is pretty sweet John. Been out in Norway for over 3 weeks now on the truffle burger tachyon and it is pretty bouncy but works great.
  11. The steel cable was placed about a third of the way up the tree. Quite a long time ago. The stems had started to absorb it and it was rusty as, so a consultant went in the and cut it for some reason, they then bored 60cm into the trunk and said it was knackered and to tell it. The home owner got a second opinion from the guy who used to own this company and he suggested the cobra system higher in the crown and a tidy up and some slight end weight reduction.
  12. That birch was in Årnes, about an hour north west of Oslo. We were surprised to find out it was less than a 100 years old. Planted in 1919 when the boys was built.
  13. This Mornings job. Deadwood a large silver birch tree, slight thin to tidy and cut back over roof of cabin to give a 2m clearance. We also installed a 4t cobra system to add support after and old steel cable brace was cut. Rich
  14. Nice pics Ian.
  15. Cheers mate. Glad you enjoyed it.
  16. I love a good time-lapse. I enjoyed that one. Looked like a warm day, or was it just the blue sky?
  17. No mate a grab lorry came and picked it up. What he does with it I have no idea as he doesn't speak English.
  18. Cheers John. You keeping busy?
  19. I do know a level2 with Arb tickets. Not sure about level3. I havnt spoken to him in a while as he is usually working away doing rail track stuff. If it is any use to you then let me know and I can pm you his number. Cheers
  20. Good work you big Jesse.
  21. I tend to short clip 90% of the time. I might lower the saw down on the strop to chuck a piece but then short clip it to a caritool before moving a significant distance.
  22. Just a quick question mate... A couple of my mates are IRATA L2 and L3. Unfortunately they don't do carb work. How would the day rates translate to Arb as they earn a lot more than an Arb climber? By more I mean some L3 guys are 3-5 hundred a day. Cheers.
  23. Thanks mate, you can tell when the job is going well when Tomas, the Lithuanian on the Avant starts dicking about.
  24. Nice work Matty.
