  1. In the real world we have to give clients what they want, today I reduced two trees, one was an Oak that had no foliage below the hight the client wanted, so it was basically a pollard. The other was a red maple with lots of lower growth, so I was able to reduce it much more sensitively, getting the desired hight, but retaining a nice shape and plenty of leaf cover, I was pretty pleased with it. The client was not happy and wanted it more like the Oak, so I went back up and butchered it back until they were happy. I now have happy customer and a cheque to pay into the bank, which is pretty much all we can hope for
  2. He's done that 1000's of times before, very skilled IMO.
  3. Why was there a tree in a car?? Had someone collected it from a garden centre??
  4. Personally if I could I would stop all illness and delay death for as long as possible, I really don't see that they have any plus sides
  5. Are you aware of the affect chicken pox can have on an unborn child?
  6. This thread contains some of most ridiculous and inaccurate mumbo jumbo I have ever read. The over use of antibiotics make the bugs stronger not us weaker. Vaccinations make our immune systems stronger and more effective, as it allows us to have new white blood cells. Those killed by the Spanish flue were mostly young and healthy, because they were young they had not come into contact with that flues easier incarnation (which was less deadly) unlike the older people who has some level of immunity. Steve is quite right in saying that most people who claim to have flue in reality they have a cold, flue is very nasty and kills 1000's every year.
  7. If it looks like it might rain we stay at home.
  8. She and all the others spongers are a product of your thinking, you think you are helping people but your not. It's like parent who run round waiting on their children hand and foot, they think their helping them, but in reality they are robbing them of the person they could become, very, very sad.
  9. The job I took was cleaning windows, hardly the most difficult job I think your liberal, excuse making attitude is whats lead us to this current sorry situation. Its very easy to make excuses for people, but that helps no one. There was a program about an estate not that far from me. A woman on there was asked to go to the Job centre for the second time in two weeks, as she had been out of work for many years, she was very annoyed at having to go her exact words were "don't they know I have better things to do with my time than look for a job!":sneaky2: As long as there is free money a great many people will think working is a mugs game (maybe there right??) TBH, I think this situation is going to sort its self out real soon anyway, because the money is going to run out.
  10. Thats incredibly naive. There are unfortunately huge numbers of people who will only work if they are going to get considerably more from working than benefits and in reality once a family gets fully "into the befits system", getting rent, council tax, etc, paid, find a job that makes them better off is very difficult. I was briefly on benefits, after a back injury. The job I took after my recovery made us £7.50 per week worse off, plus I would need to run a car. But I took the job, because I felt it was my responsibility to pay my own way and felt ashamed of the "free money".
  11. True, but you would be slower still with a hand missing
  12. Not CE marked, would fall fowl of HSE if you wanted an employee to use it and if you were using it to split logs for sale you could even be in bother for using it yourself. In the UK all splitters need to be two handed operation, with the exception of the screw type splitter I think.
  13. People always preach doom and gloom about the future, but the reality is that in real term each generation as lived better than the one before. People alway speak about the "good old day":001_rolleyes: yes lets get back to the days of rickets and people getting all their teeth removed and dentures fitted as a 21st birthday gift
  14. Britain has not been self sufficient for hundreds of years, we used to have the Empire to feed us. The chances of a world war are very, very slim, what possible reason would the rest of europe have to wage war against us????? Any war is likely to be much further afield and europe (from where we get much of our food) are likely to be our allies. Yes the brain dead morons are out breeding us and the money (they get in benefits) is running out, so not sure whats going to happen there.
  15. The "jerkiness" of the Lockjack was the reason for Art producing the Spiderjack, IMO. I just don't understand why they continued to make the LJ after they had produced the SJ??
  16. Those are all standard landy features, so don't need to be mentioned
  17. Its very effective. I've always used it to prevent splitting, I fitted it slack, with a shock absorber. It would prevent the stems reaching a point where they would split due to wind loading.
  18. Do you mean "bracing"? I've used Cobra bracing in the past.
  19. :confused1:Do the other hats, at a fraction of the cost, not also do those things?? No one is suggesting not wearing a helmet due to cost, just that this one is extremely expensive.
