  1. Very well put Bob:thumbup1: I find it very strange that people think chains stretch, they don't, the part of the chain that sits on the guid bar wears, making the chain slack, if you have ever cut timber thats contaminated by sand you will have noticed how quickly the chain goes slack due to excessive wear. Any new link will very quickly wear to match the others. If you buy your chains by mail-order, bin it and buy a new one, if you use a local dealer they will more than likely fix it very cheaply or for free. I know Dick Leigh (my dealer) would sort a chain like that for me while I waited.
  2. Producing fire wood is very labour intensive, labour is very expensive. Bought in fire wood as your primary heat source is very expensive. For a lot of people fire wood is a luxury, they light the fire to create an atmosphere, for this the cost of fire wood is more acceptable.
  3. If they give you consent its possible that if an accident happens they could be held liable.
  4. Always give Yew the benefit of the doubt, I nearly felled one that was very brown all over, ground level around it had lifted by more than a foot, we were late getting to it and I noticed it looked a little less brown. Its now in rude health!!!!!
  5. :confused1:So your client would pay an extra £1K so they could fell the trees?????????????????:confused1:
  6. But if you had given a price of say £5K to fell and chip or £6K for them to fell and you chip, they would then know they are not saving by felling
  7. But surely by offering an hourly rate, rather than fixed price, they are not aware that they are going to be paying more for less until you have finished?
  8. For me to chip what others have cut is alway more expensive than me cutting and chipping, but thats just me each too their own
  9. Absolutely!! But this is a discussion forum, it is quite unusual to exclude an area from sales, so it promoted discussion, all friendly stuff, just like a chat down the pub
  10. Not sure fire wood is a "niche" To be honest if the competion is going to be buying timber anyway why not have their money in your pocket
  11. Was that split just before taking the reading? As the outer edge of any log will be considerably drier than the centre.
  12. The weekend firewood warriors will get very excited.
  13. Cold here all day and snow blowing in the air at home.
  14. I'm pretty sure Japan has not been out of recession for 20 years.
  15. I started this thread because I was finding work was improving, the governments figures are also saying thinks are picking up. If my heads getting wet and the weather man says its raining should I call him a lier???????
  16. The Olympics added 0.2% only, so without it we could still be at 0.8%.
  17. But you seem to think these figures have be fudged for some impending budget:confused1:
  18. They have probably realised that they are leaving themselves wide open to another PPI scandal and the claims that would follow. They will no doubt tell you go to an independent FA, as really that make far more sense.
  19. I bet the powers that be wish they had the ability to deceive that some you seem to think they have. There are many independent bodies that scrutinise these figures, not to mention the opposition who would just love to find any discrepancy. I guess if you want to see things as always "Doom and gloom" you can, I'd sooner look for the positive, it works for me
  20. If they can just make the figures up why have they waited so long
  21. The same people who said we were in recession.
