  1. You have still not told us why it was cancelled, to me the reason for the cancellation would make all the difference, it could be for any number of reasons, some acceptable and some not.
  2. I had hi-lighted the part of the post that said they were hoping to "limit the impact" of this decease, I keep hearing that plans are afoot to some how combat this decease, but I just don't see how????????? I am by nature very optimistic, but I am also a realist, thinking there is some way of stopping this seems most unrealistic, unless I'm missing something:confused1: Our country is on its knees financially, if something can be done great, but I really hope we don't waste money doing stuff thats of no help, just so we can say we tried
  3. In all honesty those power lines probable saved the life of a passing motorist!!!
  4. What was the reason for the cancellation and was it a cancellation or a postponement?? You say you had no other work to go to, so not really lost any thing or had you turned down other work for that day??
  5. Oh dear "it didn't make any sense for it to fall this way, probably was just the fact that the tree was tilting that way to start with" Surely the tree leaning that way is every reason for it to fall that way Its terrifying to think we are surrounded by people like this they live next door, teach our children, treat us in hospitals, drive on our roads, etc, etc. Its a wonder any of us survive
  6. To compare NPTC units with First aid training is nonsense, you are likely to have not used your FA training from one year to the next, so refreshing is vital, however if your cutting/climbing day in day out, your hardly going to forget it.
  7. Good stuff!!! Not all the Ash will fall to this disease, look at DED I'm felling a perfectly healthy Elm next week
  8. Well I saw it yesterday and to honest I was very disappointed, I thought the plot was very poor and the whole thing was more like an American movie, such as independence day. Its very sentimental and I know that you have to suspend you disbelief when at the cinema, but this takes it to far, it also reminded me at times of the A team.
  9. This year has to be the best for autumn colour that I can remember.
  10. You over doing your meds Andy
  11. Maybe for milling there is a need for this, but for me for tree work hand sharpening is perfect.
  12. Had mine since last January, it good. Only problem I've had was the mount below filter broke, which was fixed under warranty. While it was being fixed I went back to my 200, which has had a little over a years use, the 200 had a little more grunt, but the improved shape, better handle and better switch means I prefer the 201. The only thing I dislike is the filter cover.
  13. I'm talking tree surgery cutters, not forestry.
  14. I just don't see the problem that this is here to fix, sharpening by hand is a dodle, it takes minuets, I was amazed when I first came on here and read about people who change the chain, because sharpening takes so long. I even timed how long it took to sharpen my 66 with 25" bar, it took 2minuets. I've worked with dozens of cutters and sharpening has never been an issue.
  15. Mine been great, maybe it was one of the newer ones
  16. I won't ever be using one of these, a round file in the right hands will bring even the worst chain back in well under 10 minuets, grab a new file and its even quicker. I reckon the masters of the art of sharpening will carry on and they will pass it on to the next generation of pro's.
  17. I hear what people are saying about this being introduced on imported stock, but in reality as it was in central Europe was it not bound to get here some time?? Its not like a foreign plant or animal that lived else where for years causing no harm, its a new development or mutation. In the modern global village it was only a matter of time. It could have come on the mud flap of a car, the tread of a boot or even a bird could have carried spores across. Its here now, theres very little if anything we can do, in fact our actions may in actual fact make it worse, if we start felling to prevent spread we may fell resistant trees from which we could have got seed to restock with.
  18. All I know is that with my old laptops running Microsoft, I had to keep installing security software, I continually had problems with the screen freezing for some problem or other, when I used to turn it on it took for ever to start, over time it got slower and slower, I got very frustrated using them and after a couple of years it was scrap. I bought a macbook air nearly 12 months ago, its worked faultlessly for all the time I've had it, its never slowed, it comes on within seconds and is a joy to use and there is no way on earth I would ever go back to Microsoft.
  19. Yes, they are UA units I think. I started out on line clearance, but back then you just need the standard climbing tickets. But there is a big shakeup just now with all the units, so it might all be changing again.
  20. Utility climbers cut the trees away from the power lines, they don't work on the power lines, thats a linesman's job.
  21. I have some softwood (not an arctic load) but I also have willow and pop that I would sell at softwood price, so could make up a mixed load, depends what you want it for.
