  1. Never having burned kiln dried until I had my own kiln, I was very surprised by the difference. My wife was quite concerned that they were going to damage the stove as they burned so intently!!! A great many people with have never burned properly dry timber, IMO.
  2. Bet that was fun to chip Lovely fire wood @5.30 you have the lowering rope running inside your strop thats round the stem, the rope almost jumps off the rigging point, if it had done, it would have been no fun at all!! Would have been better to put the lowering line outside your strop
  3. Felling an Ash that had snapped out years earlier, the top third was laying on the remaining stem and a large Willow. The plan was to fell the stem, which would pull the top out of the Willow, sort of folding it down. The problem was lack of space. The tree was on the edge of a steep river bank and there was a barbwire fence this side of the trees. I made the cut and stepped back as close to the fence as I could. It came down perfectly, BUT what I had failed to spot was the top was very bowed, so as the tip and base hit the ground the centre was still off the deck and flicked straight into my face, flooring me against the fence. Happened at around 3PM, I had an overnight stay in hospital and brilliant surgeon cleaned and stitched it up at 9AM, I was back working by 2PM of the day after the accident And people knock the NHS
  4. No idea what you mean Jon?? The domestic RHI is not metered, they assess your house, so if they decide your house requires a 40KW boiler you get paid at the 40KW rate, if you chose to heat your pool with the boiler through the summer thats fine, as you would not receive any further payment.
  5. I guess if it was a commercial pool it could get none domestic RHI. What your mate could do is go for the domestic RHI, where they assess your home for its heat requirement and pay accordingly, he could then heat the pool as well, but he would receive no RHI for the heat used for the pool.
  6. I heat ours with a large outdoor boiler using a heat exchanger. If you use biomass, private pools are not eligible for RHI, unfortunately.

    Cringe!!!

That "bloke" is a woman, she's got far more work in her than fat boy in his safety slip-ons
  8. My RHI boiler is 90KW, its replaced a 150KW boiler thats heated the house for 11 years. The new one is far more efficient, so runs the house and kiln easily.
  9. I'm not increasing mine Jon, just thought it may be of interest to others who may wish to. I was unaware of this rule and just thought I'd let others know.
  10. I've just discovered that if you have a RHI installation, you have unto 12 months after the date of the initial installation to increase your installation at the same tariff you first qualified for. So if your kiln is working well and you feel you could use more capacity, you can add another boiler and get the same tariff Considering the tariff has dropped dramatically in recent months its a pretty good option
  11. Few weeks back I felled a Red Oak within the conservation area, I had no "letter of consent" from the council, will I be prosecuted????
  12. Lime, Pop and Willow are all hardwoods, Yew is my favourite firewood and is actually a softwood
  13. Is there a reason you don't simply use a rotator?????
  14. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Great day here!!! my four all came into my bedroom offering gifts, cards and hugs!!! ( well the gifts and cards were offered, I took the hugs:biggrin:) They then all had a lazy sunday, I mooched round the yard splitting logs etc, then out for a lovely meal at my favourite restaurant:thumbup:
  16. All this sounds like a right nightmare, one of the reasons I love tree work and don't offer other services, is the hassle of materials, plus I have a phobia regarding mud!!!
  17. To go from 1in14,000,000 to 1in45,000,000 is pretty ridiculous. People should boycott the lottery to teach them a lesson, IMO, but then I've never really been into it, so its easy for me to speak
