  1. That must have been a long time ago, today a drone would be much easier.
  2. My advice is "Go small and be sure to go home"
  3. According to Money box live on radio four, so long as you are the company owner and keep within the basic tax bracket (which is easy if your wife is also a shareholder ) the new rules will actually make us slightly better off
  4. No one can post in the Employment threads except the starter of the thread. Its to stop all the nonsense that used to drown the original post of a job. The poster should know this, so will hopefully keep an eye on their PM's.
  5. I think Merc beat them both with the mog
  6. This is totally incorrect. The Domestic RHI is not metered, your home is assessed and you are given a KW requirement, you must fit a boiler of at least this size and you then receive payments based on the KW requirement you were given.
  7. I think there is a place for kiln drying. My boiler runs the kiln and heats my home. I used to heat our home with very large outdoor boiler, burning unseasoned wood, straight from jobs. There are many advantages to my new system, because its also running the kiln its in all year, this means we can also heat our hot water all year, this was not the case with the old boiler, it was too big to only do hot water, so we had the immersion heater on from april to october. The fact that it always lit also means that we can simply switch the heating on if we wish and its on a timer through the winter, so its much more like gas central heating. I burn manly Pop, Willow and soft wood on the boiler, know these lower grade fire woods can be mixed in with the better hardwood, but like most arb firms we get a disproportionate quantity of these lower grade timbers, so we would struggle to get shut of it all unless it was sold very cheap. I also burn all the horrible lumps any arb firm doing firewood inevitably end up with. As for carbon, timber landfilled or simply left to rot in the corner of the yard will release just as much carbon as if burned, but with much use being made of the energy. Over the years I've let a great deal of timber rot in this way or bonfired it. I recon my carbon foot print it better now than then. The RHI is very welcome and has pushed me into getting into fire wood which is something I've being putting off for years. The kiln does make the whole process faster and more controllable IMO. As for kiln dried being poorer quality, I really do think this is nonsense. A great deal of firewood is burned unseasoned, I think kilning will general drive up the standard of firewood in general. I also know I will want to continue using my kiln after the RHI had ended.
  8. Yes, fair do's, that would be a start
  9. Interesting blog Tom. However there are problems with selling by volume, a cube of Willow contains much less energy than a cube of Beech for example, Wood thats begun to decay or came from a decaying tree losses calorific value, the variables are endless. So buying by volume in no way makes for a level playing field. I would imagine this is one of the reasons the authorities have not got involved. Any legislation would need to be so complex, moisture content, species, has decay begun, etc, etc. Would is very different to coal, gas, etc, IMO.
  10. But where is the line and who draws it?? Live and let live I say, natural selection and all that
  11. While this is of course true, can I make a suggestion, Find a lady wearing flat shoes or trainers, get said lady to put the heel of her shoe over the top of your foot and allow her body weight rest on your foot. Now get the lady to change into shoes with a stiletto heel and repeat the process. Once your eyes have stopped watering you will fully understand the advantages "low ground pressure" machines
  12. For some reason my wife thinks this is hilarious?????
  13. I often think the green patches of land within the urban environment are more important to the wellbeing of locals than the loss of small amounts of the rolling countryside. I find it very sad when small green island are ripped up and built over, simply because they once built on in some way. They are also of high value to wildlife.
  14. Lets hope my accountant is smart enough to lessen the impact
  15. They are cutting the Tax relief, so if the rent is currently only just covering the mortgage, once the rental income has been taxed there will be a shortfall on the mortgage.
  16. Anyone with buy to let properties with mortgages are going to struggle, but it could well lead to more properties for sale and first time buyers getting in ahead of the landlords Corporation tax cut is always good:thumbup: Not sure about the hike in the minimum wage, unfortunately some worker and some jobs will only ever have a very low value.
  17. A customer told me the other day about a patch you stick on your bum, she reckoned they really worked, she is allergic to mosquitos, so they need to work for her.
  18. I was chatting with Liz (the Queen) she's very sorry Clarkson has gone.
  19. I sent purchase orders from various council felling jobs. Well I say I, my application was sorted by a consultant, she did struggle at first, but once she found out I needed to be a supplier first and then self supply it seemed pretty straight forward
