  1. Are these costs not covered by the premium of a better product, less storage required, reduced handling and the fexabily to meet market demand.
  2. Outstanding!! You can actually see the technic developing as they are going up:thumbup:
  3. Makes you wonder why so many idiots have been cutting and stacking timber to dry, when they could have simply stripped the bark. Also why the milling industry waste so much time sawing and stacking the green timber, when they could simple remove the bark, leave to dry and then cut dry stable boards, without the risk of warping. I've been selling round wood for over 10 years, often its been down for years, with no bark, sure it looses some water, but I've never found it to fully season. Loads that would weigh 25t green have been around 19/20t, so still plenty of water in there. This timber will burn (so long as its hard wood) and as most people have never burned truly dry timber they will be happy and its way better than the freshly felled some sell, just hope no one gives them a few realy dry logs and opens their eyes.
  4. Looks like a beautiful tree, wonder if it should really be TPO's??? after all its clearly falls within the category of being under threat
  5. From what I see round my way what you need to be a tree surgeon is a B&Q saw and a trailer to go behind the family car
  6. I would imagine wear will greatly depend on how much timber is loader at a time and the average diameter/length of the timber.
  7. Trolling?????? Grow up!! I too am expressing an opinion
  8. How ridiculous, do you think decorators, restaurant owners, mechanics, gardeners, vegetable growers, etc, etc, sulk when they see people doing what are pretty much every day tasks????? Once of a day everyone would have cut their own fuel, but times change and many choose not to and pay others for the service, but many get satisfaction from doing their own, good for them I say, beats paying for a gym membership
  9. Very low, it won't register on the two moisture meters I've tried, they both read 0%. And that was from the centre of a newly split log. Most people are only burning semi dry timber, (including me until recently) this is well illustrated by the way people insist on hardwood, semi dry hardwood will burn, but not semi dry softwood. Fire wood sellers are processing from the round and sending it straight out as seasoned, it does not matter how long its been felled it can't dry in the length. It looses some moisture, but its by no means dry. Look at the price of imported kiln dryer, there is a reason people are prepared to pay those prices.
  10. Never having burned kiln dried until I had my own kiln, I was very surprised by the difference. My wife was quite concerned that they were going to damage the stove as they burned so intently!!! A great many people with have never burned properly dry timber, IMO.
  11. Bet that was fun to chip Lovely fire wood @5.30 you have the lowering rope running inside your strop thats round the stem, the rope almost jumps off the rigging point, if it had done, it would have been no fun at all!! Would have been better to put the lowering line outside your strop
  12. Felling an Ash that had snapped out years earlier, the top third was laying on the remaining stem and a large Willow. The plan was to fell the stem, which would pull the top out of the Willow, sort of folding it down. The problem was lack of space. The tree was on the edge of a steep river bank and there was a barbwire fence this side of the trees. I made the cut and stepped back as close to the fence as I could. It came down perfectly, BUT what I had failed to spot was the top was very bowed, so as the tip and base hit the ground the centre was still off the deck and flicked straight into my face, flooring me against the fence. Happened at around 3PM, I had an overnight stay in hospital and brilliant surgeon cleaned and stitched it up at 9AM, I was back working by 2PM of the day after the accident And people knock the NHS
  13. No idea what you mean Jon?? The domestic RHI is not metered, they assess your house, so if they decide your house requires a 40KW boiler you get paid at the 40KW rate, if you chose to heat your pool with the boiler through the summer thats fine, as you would not receive any further payment.
  14. I guess if it was a commercial pool it could get none domestic RHI. What your mate could do is go for the domestic RHI, where they assess your home for its heat requirement and pay accordingly, he could then heat the pool as well, but he would receive no RHI for the heat used for the pool.
  15. I heat ours with a large outdoor boiler using a heat exchanger. If you use biomass, private pools are not eligible for RHI, unfortunately.
  16. skyhuck

    Cringe!!!

That "bloke" is a woman, she's got far more work in her than fat boy in his safety slip-ons
  17. My RHI boiler is 90KW, its replaced a 150KW boiler thats heated the house for 11 years. The new one is far more efficient, so runs the house and kiln easily.
  18. I'm not increasing mine Jon, just thought it may be of interest to others who may wish to. I was unaware of this rule and just thought I'd let others know.
