  1. To be honest I don't know about the UK mate.Birch is all people want to buy here in Norway. Why don't you market it as "Odin ved" meaning the god of thunders wood or "Thor ved","Smelterved" Furnace wood.Dress the name up a little.
  2. Because Dry Birch Sells by itself?
  3. Because wood burns better dry?
  4. It will be fine by next winter. Sell it on its own.
  5. "If you truly beleive that, your an inexperienced off roading TW@T":001_smile:
  6. After the killing that was made by some Firewood importer in the past two winters here in Norway, alot of people have jumped on the bandwagon. Now after a fairly mild two months and the end of the Winter in sight, the retailers are struggling to shift stock. All have dropped their prices and are uniformally offering free delivery.
  7. Norway seems to grant asylum to anyone.Thats not ment to sound flippent but he could try...
  8. "Breaker 1,9 this is Rubber Duck" [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAPRrdgYU7o]Convoy Theme Song - YouTube[/ame]
  9. £160 "Rigging fee". You can't go back on a contract. His son wanted to save money by being dishonest, now it will cost them for being cheap.
  10. It works the other way too. On friday I arrived at the job to find it had already been done.Despite the Elderly client accepting the job,one of his sons decided my quote was too high and got someone else in. He is getting a Bill for wasting my time.
  11. Lol. The access is too tight. Thanks for all the replies everyone.
  12. I have split payment up over two Months.Did a job like that today. It makes sense for a Client to get all the work done in one go,for example Children tidying up the Home of their Parents before putting it on the Market. As long as you have the agreement in writing.
  13. I have a fellig job,13 Large Dirty Coastal Minging Sitka Spruce. There is no way of getting a chipper in there short of a Helo.I have agreed with the owner to burn the Branches and I am unsure as to how much will be left after I have torched the pile. To anyone who has burned Spruce Brush, did it go well with the larger diameter stuff?
  14. The top feed roller bearings are sealed units. No grease from any grease points gets the them.Squeaking on my one,is usually small stringy twigs balled up at the end of the top feed roller. Woodpicker has a good idea about removing the Spacer. You will see it when you remove the Bearing block. The earlier Bearings failed faster than the later ones. The ones I found were a bit wider than the originals and ment I had to cut the spacer down abit. But just take the shaft out and have a look. Its just four nuts and its out.
  15. Can you measure the thickness for me? Some are 9mm thick and the others 11mm I think.
  16. I worked for Citycare for a few months between stints in the States.Like anywhere it had its good points and its bad. The Company took over the Councils jobs in many area's,there are Tree Teams,Waterways Teams,Carpenters etc. You would be part of a big unit. If you are used to working in a big Company or "Council like" enviroment, this job could well be for you.
  17. Quote it at 25% of your daily production target.Or tell them it will cost less if they can wait untill you have another job in the area.
  18. I am sorry to hear about the theft. I had a chipper solen a couple of years ago, previously almost all my saws were nicked. The chipper was in the yard being repaired,I had taken the hitch and chute off it,the lower bearing for the Feed roller was removed and the yard was thick with fresh gravel. It looked like several guys had pushed the machine to where a Hiab could lift it. The Poice said it was probably in Poland within 24 hours.Alot of Farm equipment that is stolen ends up there.
  19. Try slowing the infeed rate down.I think the rollers are spinning on the brush as it gets choaked entering the feed throat. The slower infeed rate will get balanced out by you not having to dig bits out. I chip a fair bit of Spruce, its tempting to run the rollers at full speed.I think it works out faster running them at 75% or less.
  20. No worries. I forgot to add, when you have the shaft out and upright on the Bench, spin the bearing block around quickly and hear if its noisy. If it sounds rough, replace the bearings.
  21. Its very likely that there are small stringy twigs wrapped around the Top Feed roller.Or there is a buildup of crap under the bottom roller. Or its the Bearing on the Top (less likely) Or the roll pin holding the Yoke to the Shaft has broken and the top roller is rubbing the inside of the feed "throat" (unlikely) Open the Disc cover, measure how much the bolts inside the Spings protrude above the locking nuts (you need to wind then back to this measurement or a bit more when you re-assemble) Take off the nuts holding the Springs, lift the arm up,lift the feed roller up and disconnect from the Stub protruding from the Gearbox. Clean out the area where the top feed roller sits and have a look on the inside of the feed throat, see that its not "chewed up". Sit the feed roller on a bench upright with the shaft sticking up in the air and see if you have much movement side to side in the bearing block thats mounted on the shaft.A little bit is normal, maybe 1mm each way.If its sloppy you need new bearings.(a diy job,the bearings cost me £30). good luck with it and if you need any help, ask again.
  22. That would look cool.Just stay away from the Stamp(s).I cleaned one up recently with a Wire Wheel on a disc Grinder.I wore a Welding Helmet as wires came off the Wheel.
