  1. olive oil works a treat.
  2. no good for tree work but good for massive descents:)..... tried it on the side for tree work and hated the lopsidedness
  3. Get your groundie to tie the lowering rope around your climbing line using a big bowline. Groundie then just pulls the other end of the lowering line and it runs up to the climber
  4. put the bar and chain from a 200 on the 201 yesterday and it made it a lot better. still feels a tad underpowered though
  5. yeah wire fid is the way to go. you can definetly taper and bury the cover but im not sure how much this affects the strength of the splice-i imagine its negligible. The important thing is to make sure the core strands dont crosssover or twist-its a pretty ugly splice.
  6. never seen the rope but if its a true kernmantle then use the Heavy Duty Kernmantle splice by new england New England Ropes - Splicing Guide
  7. sounds like a friday mish then

Hero 2 Ian. Just be careful not to go overboard on the iMovie effects. Imagine the gopro underneath the boat as you haul that big kingie in....
  15. Nah serious bro. Open it with the metal thingy but try and slow up/ control with the wooden brake
  16. Does that mean you should be using the wooden brake more then??
  17. your handing it to me on a plate adam......
  18. treetech in chch are always on the hunt...
  19. Samson splicing book gives the best description of correct splices for clas 1 and 2 ropes. the classes doe not define the type of braid for the rope ie 16 strand , 12 strand, 24 strand, kernmantle, hollow, 3 strand, 6 strand, 8 strand more they define the molecular structure of the fibres used in making the rope. class1 Olefin, Polypropelene, polyethylene nylon, polyester. Class 2 High modulus (HMPE) fibres- dyneema, Aramid, technora kevlar vectran zylon and carbon
  20. Really??
  21. no not yet carl-its on the to do list bro
  22. Hey Ian, Kevin sent me one ages ago now and to be honest when i first got i didnt really get on with it. I found it good occasionally, say when throwing a high tip and only going up to remove a hanger but apart from that i just couldnt see the point. My rope walker for ascent and double rope for climbing seemed unbeatable in my eyes. However, ive now been giving the wrench a lot more time and changing how i climb to accomodate its pros and cons a lot more. Slack- really like how by moving 1:1 i eliminate slack a hell of a lot quicker. The 1:1 makes coming back in from the very ends of branches harder (installing a 3:1 makes things easier but 95% of the time i forget). The advantage of making temperory tips also allows you to use different angles to help the walk back in-again this takes time to remember to do and im still learning. The single line is weird and sometimes unnerving after using double rope for so many years-it doesnt look right! Im still not sure how to make temporary redis that i can get back to me without the wrench getting caught in the crotch though im sure this will come with time. I prefer the wrench over the uni as the hitch feels more like a normal climbimg system. I like how i can be climbing on a lowerable anchor system I normally have the rope about 2m longer than the height of the tree, this prevents tangles and issues with rope getting snagged on brash. Being tied off does pose the threat of groundies cutting the rope but you can a, tie it higher up the stem out of saw reach but still lowerable or b, put a protecter sleeve around the standing part of the rope. Overall i really rate the wrench-it wont replace my trad system but i wouldnt go to work without it either. Im way quicker ascending with croll, hand ascender but i like the way i can work straight away on the ascent with wrench. Get one but be prepared to be a learner again- im finding it fun having to relearn how to climb!!
  23. the 3:1 works really well, great if your going up n down, up n down. does use a bit of rope though. If you set the revolver in the correct orientation, it still retrieves as well.
  24. Salewa gtx in the tree all the time. My meindls feel clumsy when I wear them in the tree. Unless I'm moving/working with heavy wood on the ground I still wear the salewas on the ground but I'm very conscious that my feet arent protected.
  25. ive made mistakes....
