  1. Teufelberger and new England are the same company. Tachyon is sold in green black white by teufelberger, it's called lava when sold by sherill. They are all the same technically but I feel the colour makes a big difference- possibly how the dyes react with the polymers. My green tachyon feels a lot bouncier than the teufelberger (CE climb) tachyon.
  2. It is tachyon just different colour. But saying that it does feel less stretchy than the green tachyon. It's my favorite rope for sure.
  3. What's wrong with tight eye splices? Of course if you can't fit a crab it's useless but apart from that?
  4. The ds works by clipping your throw line over the branch and not through the rg device. It's actually bloody complicated to explain via writing. It enables you to lower the rg after use using a single leg of throw line. Personally I think it's easier to just use the tail of your rope as a fall trap but the ds is an ingenious solution.
  5. If it gets tight when burying the last inch of so, go at the throat of the splice with a rubber mallet to soften it. Works 99% of the time. If the rope is only a little used you should have no problems. And yep, Samson instructions are the best. There ate also some very clear YouTube vids
  6. Merino.100% better than poly.
  7. dedicated splicing section
  8. Thats it, heading to the beach and away from the computer til 2012. Hope everyone has a great new years and see y'all on the other side !!!!! PARTY TIME!!
  9. Clean all of your gear so it smells of disinfectant when biosecurity search ya bag, dont joke with customs as they have zero sense of humour, enjoy the differences that the southern hemisphere brings, dont moan about stuff-if you dont like it, tough!, be sensible with the sun-it will kill you if you let it, drink tonnes of water, get to know the aussie girls and have fun. and remember if its not as good as you expected, NZ is not too far away:)
  10. if i had MDVaden guiding me to the hot spots, high or hell water wouldnt stop me ian!! and just think, you bought this holiday for the wife!!!!
  11. again it came in really useful today. had to climb through an oak to use different rigging points and was just able to go straight across rather than down and up to avoid ropes rubbing. the more it gets used the more its becoming obvious. A tip from johno smith is a bike inner tube around the chest (fig around shoulders) and just clip the wrench/uni into that. real nice cheap simple idea.
  12. yep, splice this Rock Exotica Mico Eight with side ears some 6mm OV cordage for a micro trunk belay. nice thinking peter
  13. i like kevins pinto idea
  14. i like the rigging hub personally but it does still use 2 carabiners for the prussic and added friction. the ISC scarab is also pretty good to use but still uses a crab
  15. ouch bro!! hope it heals well mate and good of you for putting the pics up, visual reminders are the best for ALL of us..
  16. company name? type of work? etc etc etc etc
  17. Ian, I'm sure Adam will leave you his whilst he is in KL!! Have a sick trip bro:)

  19. climbingafricasgiants
  20. do you mean sj with wrench or sj dbrt v wrench srt?
  21. Just make the eye by making a loop and stitching the legs together and then put stopper knots in the end of each.super simple
  22. The weight was tied a vt Ina dbrt system. The weight was next to the rope guide with about 2.5 m slack in the system. The anchor was a big oak limb that was way above normal anchors! Goes to show what a great shock absorber the tree itself is
  23. Weve changed from using dyneema webbing slings but to be fair we never did manage to break any through drop testing the rope guides. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiiodscSlS4]DB Tree Rope Saver Test - YouTube[/ame] Thats a 100kg weight falling 4 metres and i think it was the 6th drop in that vid
  24. If it's a kernmantle splice it's all about core strength hence the core is spliced. Normal 16 strand splice removes the core and has all the strength in the cover. 100% completely different types of splices.
  25. someone didnt watch the vid!!
