  1. Hey mark, if you haven't got one by the time you get to nz, I'll convince you after we go for a climb:)
  2. Awesome go rich!! One thing I find strange about srt tree work is that I always thought it would Be harder on the body as no 2:1 system but I find it's actually a lot less tiring. I also think it allows you to be safer as you can constantly rope through branch unions to Prevent falls n swings as opposed to dbrt where you avoid the unions due to friction.

    Coronet

council ian, in the middle of auckland domain. pretty much have free reign to do what we see as appropriate, within limits. never had any complaints so all good:)

drove past an oak i coroneted about 2 years ago, i like the way you can hardly tell now. not the most exciting of pics, the sky was too bright to get a decent one.
  6. Back splice??

Less carabiners the better for me bro but all good

i agree on all the points above-ill use diff setups in diff trees. lowerable when possible as would prefer to not see people cutting ropes just in case they cut the wrong bit! but if a long way from vehicle theres no way im carrying all that gear to the trees. one of the big problems is that it can make people think it cancels out the need for aerial rescue-as stated by a few people it can also cause more headaches and scenarios than it solves. anyway, its all good fun:)

and heres the cheaper option. to lower in an emergency, put a second climbing system through the ring, tension it up and cut the rope below the alpine. simple.
  10. Don't drop em!!!
  11. I leave the core in 3 diff lengths in the eye bro, this stops it possibly moving inside and bunching up below the splice. Good work on the old tachyon bro

    Base anchor

Hey marc, we normally lower the climber at some point everyday or so to make sure people on site know how to use it and can see/ get to feel how it works. Even with 2 climbers on it it's smooth to lower on.

Hey old mill, I don't actually think its complicated. There's no knots to tie around the base of the tree, the ring loop cinchs it tight and the hub is just cinched through a big spliced eye. The hub is used mainly cus I've got one!! The vt is massive as it was some spare cord I spliced up. All I have to do to set up is put the large eye around the tree and through the ring loop, then cinch the hub on the big eye. All the rest is on the rope so I just clip the vt onto the hub and feed the rope through the hub. But there are many many ways of doing this so will be good seeing all the other variations.

I agree bro but haven't got climbing lines long enough in this case!!!
  15. After seeing the carabiner, I think it's good tht the loler guy failed it for ppe, as I see it it's definitely not 3 actions to open it. It's a good carabiner just not a 3 action opening irrespective what it's been certified too. Just my 2 cents...

Yep the ring is just to enable the knots to come undone nice and easy. Could use a zeppelin bend in place of. Yes Steve, we're are doing an avenue of 35m+ plane trees at the moment and it's just easier to base tie and not isolate the throw line, the base anchor only takes 2 mins to install so is a worthwhile thing to do in this case.An yep you could climb srt or dbrt off it.
  17. As the title says, this is what i use. interested to see what others use. The top tachyon is 45m and attached via the ring to a 25m tachyon to enable the climber to be lowered if circumstances allow.
  18. i think its to do with the grab reflex, if you were falling you would stay grabbing onto it and not let go. with hitch cord, the heat will make you let go. The rw adds enough friction to arrest a fall but leaves enough movement to allow big jumps, drops, swings when the friction hitch is open-all one handed. to open a hitch and a rocker would require 2 hands. at least that how i see it bro.

    Unicender Mod

hey bro, no i havent ever tested a lj or sj as to be honest i don't use them so never thought of it ( or been able to afford to wreck one). If you want to send one over, i would gladly drop some big mutha weights onto though:) I fully approve of non toothed ascenders and after watching the croll destroy the ropes, id happily use a lj in place of a croll if i wasnt sure of the anchor point on a big ascent.
  20. Yeah mistabenn, originally from tenbury but relocated to NZ about 9 years ago. Prestiegne aye!! Crazy where life takes you. Steve- man, I havent mike griffiths name in ages, he's a good mate of my dads and So is dave rea, I used to play football with his son Stephen. Aaah memories
  21. But the ASAP / rocker etc doesn't allow for real quickly movements within the tree, the wrench does.
  22. wow, someone else from Tenbury!!!
  23. of course bro, ill have the lightest kit bag ever. harness, rope, wrench, hitch, throwline, big shot
  24. And where's the rope wrench:)
  25. Nice bro- if I'm being super picky the tachyon has a bit of bagginess but I'm being picky, I'd climb on it anyday!!
