  1. Surely, if you are being granted some UK tax dollars (some of my really hard eared included) then there be a duty of honour to buy a British built piece of equipment and in some small way help our economy rather than think of some faceless European outfit who only want your money rather than your business. For chrissake, buy British. Are you not proud of this countries manufacturing or assembly capability. That is one direction that this government is going wrong. They have all of our money and do not care where or how it is spent until it becomes bad news! Again, the government (all sides) is full of committed "graspers" who want the best for their pockets if it buys them a vote. Give money to the Europeans or the World, but bugger the schools, hospitals, Police and the armed forces. "Help is for Heroes" - Nah, bugger that, lets buy the wasted Tomato crop from Spain that we told them to grow and put it landfill.
  2. Ask a new starter to go into Betty's newsagent for a pint of Pigeons Milk, Betty told him that she was out and would Badgers Milk do? I wonder where he is now, certainly isn't treework - probably earning millions in the city!
  3. Get on Girl, recover soon. I echo the previous sentiments about getting her locking in and does she has a sister but in my case,..................what's the mother like!
  4. Love IT! It has got it's own facebook page now! Going big early, that one!
  5. Good film, but as said, slightly scary that these type of surveillance techniques etc is in common usage around the world!
  6. My 1948 Austin 16 Hot Rod failed its MOT on a busted number plate light and incorrect head light dip/main set up. Worked on it to put these correct for the next day for the retest before going on holiday. It passed again but I rubbed it up the gate post and scuffed the wing - damn and blast it! yet another piece of body work to be done. Rebuilt the Jag IRS with XJS brakes and discs and a polish up. The carb picture is just for Mozza as he likes that kind of thing.
  7. I parked the GreenMech crewcab smack in the middle of a bay and left the two kids in there whilst I went to grab something from the shop and noticed that the car parked nearside was close to my car. When I came out, the kids told me that the woman had questioned my parentage, named me after womens bits and used a wide assortment of other obscenities as well. She had put a small dent in the car to boot! Luckily I remembered which car it was and came across it in the same car park two days later. I left mine parked across the back of hers then did a leisurely shop and came out to find her fuming. She still thought that such profane language , in public and at volume was acceptable. Furthermore, I was to blame for the original incident as I should have noticed that her car was parked near to the edge of her bay and on the drivers side too! Unfortunately some people have really disappointing standards and such low morals you'll never win.
  8. Strikes me that there is definately more horsepower than brain power there. Nice find.

    Jokes???

Was in McDonalds the other night, had to sit down whilst the food was cooked. The fat waitress came over with the food and said "sorry about the wait", I replied "no worries Fatso, you could soon work that off!"
  10. Nice find John, is he local to you?
  11. Very best wishes to you all at this joyous time!
  12. Hey DeerMan, I've a bigger machine which is half that age, for only a tad more. Whilst I agree that Schliesing are a decent chipper, I fail to see what it is about them that command that premium price. They do everything that most other chippers do, but where is the extra money going. They rust the same as others, they occasionally break down - same as every thing else, they chip brash same as most other chippers, they are made of the same materials as other machines but they have nothing more than most other makes yet seem to be significantly dearer.
  13. Hey Rupe, give Jamie from Global sales a ring,he used to be the vermeer rep and would give you an opinion. 07773 218771
  14. A six year old, 6" machine for 8k. Blimey - walk this way Sir, have I a bargain for you!
  15. It is Lancs, sure. But they are on an easy road link to west Yorks and do a fair bit of business there anyway. PM me your gripes and do what I can to help.
  16. Cheers to Pete and DaveTaz for digging that out, anyone got other "lore" like Red sky at Night, Shepards Delight. Rain before seven, fine after eleven.
  17. I recently heard part of an old adage on Radio4, but got interrupted by a 'call. I had heard of it before as well. It relates to firewood and how the different timbers burn, one bit went something like - Ash brown or green is fit for the Queen, Ash wet or dry is good to warm the King's slippers by. Anyone know the full adage. Anyone got any other similar adages that reflect country lore?
  18. Grinders are grinders to a degree. Don't expect a 13hp job to be comfortable on big stumps, but a big grinder is harder to get in back yards. Kim at Danequip does a nice one with a reasonable sized engine and not over wide. We used to sell the predator 450 which was a good tool and not over big too. Different people prefer different teeth too, I like the "supper Tooth" type, whereas a mate prefered finger bars, some like that fifty pence piece that Predator do and the Sandvik system is good but not as durable (I've heard), and the greenteeth that Stevie mentioned is good but hard to get hold of. Pay your money and make your choice.
  19. I used to live in Tickhill in the early '80s Great place, many fond memories, many drunken nights and the odd knee trembler! 1st wife was from the village. I might go and see Torne and Turners, have been to see Fosters at Thybergh and Broadfield mowers in Sheffield, but didn't know wether there was more options. Cheers.
  20. Hi Ian, the official dealer for GreenMech in West Yorks is Balmers, the ex-Timberwolf folk over at Burnley. Ho'ws things, missed you at the Jonesie do.
  21. Since there has been a bit a change around in the GreenMech dealership network, I've to find a worthwhile machinery dealer in South Yorkshire. For those based in the Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster area - who do you tend to get your chainsaws, climbing kit, clothes, machinery from? And don't all say "Jonsie":sneaky2:
  22. As has been said. Quite often a company will go in with rather low rates to win the contract and hope that there is some "variations" to the contract which they make good money at. If it's a mowing job, then they have to guess the weather so that if more cuts are required than stipulated - then the money is there. Utility tree (OHL) companies desire bad weather, storms, snow etc in someone else's area and they can cream off big profit on call outs and emergency work. But to "buy" work just to keep busy is hard to quantify. Are the rates going to improve next time - or will a reduction be asked for? Business running costs go up (year on year), not down so why work for nought this time and even less next?
  23. Great post! Both about the trees and the "newspaper". By the look of the roots - that thing could have been down for decades, even floating about for decades. Imagine running into that in a boat!

    APF Website!

Thanks for that! Could not get it off there website, just a message that there was a problem and that I should contact the writer of the PDF. Interesting to see some new names and some companies I thought ought to be there but don't bother even tho' tree surgery is a market to them!
