  1. I used to do the bottle run before Chrimbo, not that it would've made a difference because someone higher up made the decision on who had the work. These were gifts to friends not buying business. Perhaps I should have gone higher up - I might not have gone bust! I once had someone who suggested that he could "assist" in my progress if I "assisted" him. He got told that we would put an extra bit on the bill labelled as "Bung to Contracts Manager"! Didn't get that job!

    kids!!!

My daughter came to stay at the weekend, used up my paper, then the ink then left me with loads of sheets for me to colour in during the week!
  3. In order to answer that - put your whereabouts underneath your avatar or at least give us a clue! There is bound to be a loler inspector who is available, how much of the 500 quid is for travel?
  4. Nice work! Good vid! Sorry, not a fan of reggae.
  5. Sorry but I did not get the 1st bit - is the machine a tracked machine? Some years ago, there was an issue with some Jensen tracked machines as the crawler speed was too slow, so a bigger pump was fitted which meant that the rollers were too fast - so a "gag" was fitted into the circuit which encouraged the oil to overheat. All very dissapointing for those who had purchased them. If you have issues with it, I'm sure that a responsible supplier will be approachable. There is a best speed for infeed rollers, too fast and it can be dangerous and too slow means that you are waiting for what seems like an age. Have you checked the valve linkage to ensure that the spool is correctly locating. I had a 340 in as a px and the valve actuating rod was bent and this allowed the valve to go into all 3 postions without locking in the stop position.
  6. You were lucky! Mine were a GoreTex coat!
  7. Nice load there John, no wonder your asking about a bigger truck, this one is only half full!
  8. What was the Environmental Studies thing about at Uni - is it relevant to Arboriculture? or was your time at Uni wasted through studying a degree that has no relevance to your desire to do tree work?
  9. Oh yes, I see. Hmm, gets you thinking tho doesn't it........................
  10. Sorry for derailing the thread a tad but this does have some relevance. I was recently told that all HGV drivers will have to obtain a CPC sometime within the few years or the licence will be revoked! Is this true?
  11. I have radio 4 on all day - love the farming progs and the early morning shipping weather. But then day time tv is primarily for brain deads. I cannot watch soap operas, game shows, "celebrity" shows, false talent shows etc so its the discovery channell and sports channels for me!
  12. I'd love to be able to work all day doing stuff like that - only it doesn't really pay the kid of loot I need!
  13. Hey Steve

I just tried to respond to the tech centre thread from "greg", it will not let me. Could you change that to allow me the priviledge please.

Hope things are good with you.

    Regards

  14. Hey Blaise Cracking post, I bet it took some practice - you'll have to learn to "middle" those logs to load them straight onto the trailer tho'. With that much time on your hands, is work a tad slack at the mo?
  15. Morning Ed, you never got round to buying me that beer at the APF! GreenMech also fit an adjustable valve on their infeed system, but like a previous post says, slow speed gives dust and slow work rate with the added problem of heating the oil very quickly, something that one supplier found out by putting a big pump on a tracked machine for high track speed then having to fit a "gag" to slow down the rollers to the correct speed. If you really want to produce dust - buy the right machine in the first place and not an arborists woodchipper!
  16. And there was me trying to work out the trigonometry of the stays!
  17. Dean, that about sizes it up really!

    Fishfight

Lee, I heard this elsewhere and it disgusted me that they are forced to chuck it back or be fined for overfishing or catching the wrong stuff. What a stupid waste!
  19. It is the self sealing leak between the screen and bulkhead. Leave it a few years for the moss to grow and it'll be reet! Failing that wear a welly and take the seal of the door bottom to let the wet out as Frank said.

    blowers

Are you crazy?! Must be 78.5 at least!
  21. Used by the american emergency services to get through shingle roofs. Caption "The new Marines 2000 rounds per minute buzz saw, whatever you use - it buzzes!"

    Ground work

Davey b, please do not let my comment go and hurt you or indeed go to waste. I do not know what chainsaw that you have but my advice was sound in that all new Stihl saws come with a fairly comprehensive guide on what to do. Please read it! As a small holder I can appreciate your need to do things yourself, but as Andy has said, saws are bloody dangerous, please be careful. Welcome to the forum and I credit you with the good sense to ask a question even if, to many, it may be daft. I'd rather ask and look stupid, than don't ask and be stupid and hurt.

Where you contacted by Les Butters at Chandlers Farm Equipment? They are based in the top end of the county and can be reached on 01406 423333. I've got a Tigerspeed up for grabs too, it is the same as the GTM machine and is in the classifieds. Chandlers are nearer than Jonesie.
