  1. whats wrong with using a mini portawrap in the tree .i have used one for years from a basket.Cheap, quick and easy setup .Just don't take too big a bit
  2. articulated is the way to go .i have used a schaffer 2026 loader since 2008. cant imagine tree work without one
  3. is anyone running a remote control Mecanil sg220 on their digger or crane? We have a intermercato grapple for our crane already but am thinking of replacing /adding a grapple saw as well. Intermercato here are trying to sell us their version of the mecanil .it has the same specs but has zero profile on the worldwide web Looking for some feedback
  4. got the boot from school at nearly 16 with no o/a levels was offered farming or forestry Forestry sounded more interesting Also knew that farm workers made five eights of bugger all
  5. you dont need a rotator however the winch could be handy
  6. either buy it from Treestuff or get a grapple from Valby or Intermercato and make it yourself. I was lucky enough to get it imported by the people running Schaffer Australia when i bought my loader
  7. Excellent you wont believe how handy it is:thumbup:
  8. Get a branch manager grapple then you can place rather than drop logs in the truck and trailer. You can also reach to the other side and place as well
  9. Started aged 16- 17 in England.Did tree climbing /forestry related work until 92 when i came to Oz with no intention of carrying on that career. Started my own tree business in 2004 and climbed for 2 years full time.Decided there had to be a better more efficient way as the environment can be a bit of a killer here (suffered alot from arm and leg cramps) Bought Mewps instead. Rarely climb at all now and i don't employ a climber either Just about have mechanized the whole operation bar the raking
  10. first rule of winning the lottery .dont tell anyone:001_smile:
  11. what a very clever idea.i will be buying one:thumbup1:
  12. Bailey Forestry Engineering? worst case you could change the remote for one from Electronic Solutions Harrison usa
  13. I do have one but haven't tried it in this application. Was fairly cheap about $50 ( 20 quid?)
  14. seen a video on youtube the other day that shows how to find a blockage in a hydraulic system with a cheap handheld non contact infrared thermometer The theory being where the oil is working harder to pass the blockage that part is hotter than the rest of the system due to more friction.
  15. poll tax.crap that means i can never go back:thumbup:
  16. get a schaffer. Mine is a 2026 Great piece of kit could say that i can lift a ton on forks with mine but would be fibbing .900kg is more its limit with forks with the grapple you can get more weight:thumbup1:
  17. you could have a roll out ripstop canvas lid for a bit more capacity
  18. That's the drawback of an emergency stop button working on the push stroke After doing it a few times in the Nifty I wired the switch backwards instead.
  19. I have a 4x4 canter in Oz its a great tough little truck but its legal payload is only 3 ton if you are going to go with a hiab and grab i would suggest getting a bigger truck
  20. should also point out that a portawrap used from the tree without a swiveling attachment point will suck big time as it allows the rope to cross over itself a bit to easily
  21. with the portawrap you will have to flick all the holding wraps off to get the rope back. You can do this up to 5 metres away.Usually i will remove all the rope from the device though so it can cool down a bit between jobs. Obviously much easier to do this from a basket than as a climber
  22. a mini portawrap is fine for self lowering from the tree.Best used with a swiveling attachment point .Easily adjustable for different weights and can be locked off if required Just be aware that the rope will want to hockle up (think that's the word) I havent used this method while climbing though only from a basket
  23. where would your friend stand if on the way to 'work' in their vehicle he was involved in a traffic accident?
  24. you may want to paint the inside of the chip body as wet hot woodchips sure make them rust quick otherwise
