  1. it is made out of light weight steel so it could be manually pushed up ramps into a trailer and made out of what i had lying around at the time.I already had the tirfor and some of the blocks.Because the cable goes around so many times it would take a lot of cranking to get the log to lift up .One wheel is inboard for travelling as it would not fit in the trailer otherwise and down in the leaves is a 50mm tow hitch.With a decent jockey wheel you could push it over the log run a chain through the two lower blocks .Get as much slack out as possible (we used a chain binder).Crank the winch until the log hits the top beam and then tow the whole setup out to the street either with the pto winch on the Toyota ute or on the towball if we could get the ute in. I remember getting one log out by pushing and pulling by hand.Never again did we bother trying BTW the washing line is not part of it .LOL
  2. in my pre loader days i built a trailer type log arch powered with a tirfor and multiple blocks to get advantage.It has the cable running down both sides of the top beam so you wouldn't bend it.If the log was straightish the payload could be up to 3 ton it was used principally to get large logs from the back yard to the front verge so we could get a crane truck to pick them up. Was not road legal and was a bit of a pain to use but we did get a lot of unrecoverable logs out with it but it has now sat under a tree unused for years

I hope that they finally elect to get rid of it so i don't have to tidy the 'pruning ' cuts up i must of quoted five times over ten years ( and others have also quoted) on removing this tree for the group that owns the hotel but they would rather keep spending big money attempting to fix all the damage to the plumbing , brickwork and concrete paths it has caused instead of removing the problem. African Mahoganies grow like weeds here. This particular tree is only about 30 years old IN 2007 i took out a similar sized tree about 20 metres from this one in the complex only then i had to climb it and the drop zone was about 3 ft by 12 ft and took three days to rig down and drag out by hand to the old 12'' chipper in the laneway. No loader or any flash gear all done the hard way not like now.Now I do it the smart way

  5. sorry not much of a picture takerer .Did get someone to do video of the grapple saw but for some reason on my phone they are the right way up but on the computer there all sideways. computer is too old and cant get a program for rotating videos

  7. another pic of the grapple saw.African Mahogany tree was shading the solar hot water service in a hotel complex.While their looks to be lots of room for the truck access at both ends of the driveway is only 3 metres wide with a sharp turn to get in. To get in i had to reverse the truck around 3 sides of the complex and annoyingly this is the second go at the tree as on Friday i got set up did 5 cuts and blew a hose on the crane. took about 2.5 hours on Tuesday with setup as well to strip this back and stack all the wood up for chipping . About 15 cube of chip with the Coconut Palms as well.The final cuts on the African Mahogany tree will be done from a MEWP at a later date. Then i moved the truck forward and took out two Coconut Palms and swung them round to the roadway.Both of these were over the roof line and at near full reach .The last cut of the coconut palms was with the grapple holding the top and me cutting it off at the bottom. total time for the Coconuts was 1 hour with setup and could not get into the best position as a car had been left in the plum spot
  8. A loader with a rotating grapple is king in this situation. we stack or accumulate until its almost out of hand then we chip the lot.It is rare to run our 1800xl for more than 15 mins at a time.
  9. that used to be my problem before i had the laser treatment back in 2003.Now do have trouble seeing the edge of a saw chain tooth and reading small print forget it without a magnifier
  10. should have tied the rope at the lower end,would have then fallen below the climbers feet no matter what the ground worker did or did not do. Might have created a bit more shock load to do and maybe that was why he did'nt do it

  13. i have a 10 year old schaffer 2026 which is probably a bit small for what you want but Schaffer do bigger models.It has paid for itself many times over and is very impressive in what it can lift. About 1000kgs (you can lift more but can't load it) but maneuverability is its key feature I also have recently bought a 1990 Volvo L50 loader which is proving its worth around the yard.This can pick up 3.5 ton plus logs no problem. I can still get parts without delay for the Volvo. Schaffer also have excellent parts service here I dont know about Europe but Oz is swamped with weird named loaders (joblion,everrun etc) from China.Brands that sell for 1 or 2 years then change there name to something else so then you can't get parts.They sell new very cheaply but are not worth getting into longterm
  14. we don't have a MOT or annual inspection here in West Australia.Its left up to the owner to keep the vehicle in a roadworthy order.Most do and the rest eventually get pulled over and made to go over the pits if they ever do bring it in 50% of the vehicles on the road would probably have to be scrapped. over here you pay 'rego' an annual fee based on what you can carry and the size of your engine.A normal car and canter 4x4 truck is $800 and a 6 wheeler is $1800 approx .Once you get into road trains and prime movers the price gets very expensive Part of the fee is an insurance policy that covers injuries to third parties and single vehicle accidents (yourself) where there are catastrophic injuries If you buy a vehicle from another state it has to go over the pits regardless in order to get the 'rego' When you get your 'rego' don't let it run out otherwise its over the pits. The state is only interested in the revenue it creates so is not game to bring a test in
  15. Being in a country where the sun does shine a lot does help. There is so many solar powered homes in Australia (mostly feeding back to the grid) that the power providers are starting to kick up about all the money they are losing!

  17. Frankly over here you are better off with brash stackers or in my case brash stacker and an articulated loader. Does less ground damage than numerous trips by hand anyhow. Not many yards i cant get into with a 1250mm wide loader Hell on a good day i can do my own stacking from above too
  18. you could look at getting a Nifty trailer lift.Parts would be more obtainable
  19. Well if you have it you may as well use it.Part way through a reduction on a cluster fig(Ficus racemosa) . Access was a bit tight and nowhere to chuck branches so we craned out them out instead.No pick was heavier than 150 kg
