  1. Had my Quadchip for 12 months now and would like to have someone carry out the annual service. I do the routine levels/blades/greasing etc but want a pro checkover / service of the engine. I have phoned Balmers who are my local (40 miles away) greenmech dealers and got quoted in my opinion a ridiculous price. Does anyone in the Huddersfield ish area use and recommend an independent? Yes I could do the oil and filters myself but I want an independent to give it the once over and have that stamp in the book so to speak. Thanks Kevin
  2. Employees should get paid from the minute they are under your instruction. If that instruction is sit on your back side and be driven to a job 3 hours away then so be it. As for evening meals when away I would also pay these (even taking the lads to a trade show). If the employee was at home his evening meal with family may only cost a couple of quid vs. £20+ at the hotel. Why should the employee be out of pocket from an expensive meal and away from family for your ultimate gain without some kind of benefit?
  3. I ran one for just over 2 years until it got stolen, decent bit of kit and runs for ages on very little fuel. Available for a better price than that though if you search hard I seem to remember. I replaced mine with the electric equivalent as I now have 240v where I keep my splitter. The Handy one is also marketed as Lawnflite (available through FR Jones for a £70 quid less if you can collect from him) or other online retailers
  4. I am quite sure both of you meant to type 'Is there anyone in or near XXXXX that would be willing to allow me to tip some nice clean chip / logs in exchange for a bottle of fine wine? Thank you in advance'
  5. A couple of pointers from my recent experiences. If you are specifying buildings for a small holding don't state stable. A stable is not classed as an agricultural building, at least not to my local council. I have 1.5 acres next to my house with 2 sheds on which I wanted to demolish and replace with 1 stable/store on the same foot print (50square meters). An ag building did not need planning, a stable/store needed full planning. If I went ag building I not need planning but would need to prove I was keeping live stock either for sale or my own consumption. A horse is neither agricultural live stock or for consumption (unless you are the MD of Findus foods). The difference between forestry and tree surgery from the planners point of view. Tree surgery - your customer pays you to work on their trees (provision of a service). Forestry - you buy a parcel of woodland or area of trees and make your money from the sale of the timber (harvesting a crop for sale). This is where the tie between forestry and agriculture comes from - both are harvesting a crop. Log processing on the same site where the logs were harvested or on land belonging to the same person does not need further planning permission. Buying in cord to log/split and store/season in your own yard requires a specific condition on the land permission for processing and warehousing.
  6. The main dealer ones are not mechanics, they are fitters. Proper old school apprenticed and time served mechanics are like rocking horse poo now. Part of the issue being the newer vehicles are all electronic with auto everything and most of the electronics being factory sealed so repairs are not possible and items must be exchanged. I fully agree that all workshop technicians should have a basic understanding, a boat load of common sense and the time to take step back and think about the issue before just plugging it in to a computer however time is money and the profit on parts means replace until you find the issue is a profitable business.
  7. day by day £150 plus your wage by the week £550. Don't forget you will be taxed on what ever you get as it's earnings. Like has been mentioned above a hire shop is £80/day or £300ish/week for a 6" chipper and a transit tipper would be £70/day or £250/week. Ensure you have a hire agreement in place, if he went to rapid hire for a chipper and knackered it he would be paying for it's repair. The same for the truck. Also the boss pays for the diesel. Make sure you are insured for hire and reward
  8. I am sure there will be, normally gets announced early december
  9. Had a walk around my 13 acre woods in the lakes on Saturday got a pheasant, pigeon and a grey partridge before settling down for the duck flight which landed 9 mallard and 7 teal. Good day
  10. It is called Sids café officially, there is a chippy a mile up the road called compos that the tourists get directed to by the locals
  11. Compo's café - from last of the summer wine is a couple of miles away
  12. The stress control unit does not control the revs at all, it takes a signal from the flywheel to ensure there are sufficient revs and allows the feed rollers to run. Nothing you do with the stress control box will effect the engine revs.
  13. Forgot the gravel boards, £12 each plus a couple of quid for clips. The above assumes wooden posts. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. At 6ft high we charge £45/meter all in for 10m plus lengths so I would think £40 a meter should see the job done. 5 posts @£5 each 5 post create @£5 each 5 of 3x1.5" rails @£4.50 each 45 6' lats to be cut in half. Less than £1 each Less than £150 in materials and 2 people should have it done in just over 1/2 a day Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. Let people know where and you might get a response
  16. Just found one while tidying up, send me a PM with your address and I will send it over.
  17. It's not remote control, you have to push it about, there is a steering wheel extension that goes on the cab roof. The crane is the only automated part with the rams operating by pneumatic and the turn table operating by fixed gear. It is possible to spend more and buy the generic automation kit that will allow the use of a remote control which if fiddles with can do forwards, backward and steering. If it doesn't push along the floor you have the centre diff in the wrong way around.
  18. I got that last xmas, the kids (and me) spent hours moving kindling about with the crane. Just make sure the diff gears are in the right way around or nothing moves and it's a real pain in the ass to get to them to change them around!! We went to LEGOLAND winsor at the end of the school hols and I bought the new 2013 mobile crane. 600 more pieces than the unimog. I have been told to leave the box closed until the accounts paperwork is in order and with the accountant
  19. 90 days unless your terms and conditions state otherwise
  20. No I sold my other 130 tipper to Ben Edmonds off here just over 2 years ago and took his transit in PX. I have run that since but a couple of jobs lately and a change of yards away from a hard standing yard mean the transit doesn't tick all the boxes anymore so I have bought a different 130. I will be running the 130 alongside the 110 TD5 XS for awhile though
  21. I've just bought another 130 tipper, pictures to follow.
  22. I've just bought another land rover 130, looked at hilux etc tippers but they seem to loose money really quick
  23. new defender 130 chassis cab is 1858kg with a full tank and driver (from the land rover site). It's easy to get a 1000kg payload with a chip box fitted
