  1. Therefore you are evading the additional taxes (VAT included) by using self employed vs employed. This is exactly what the HMRC are trying to stop. I fully understand what you are doing and it is only necessary due to others in your area doing the same but it doesn't make it right. Don't take it the wrong way, I am not having a go it is just you wrote the exact reason the HMRC are having a tighten up.
  2. you still have to do a risk assessment, more than 5 people means written risk assessment. It's that simple
  3. Chat is flash based so no iphones
  4. 5 people is the limit for the WRITTEN risk assessment but if you have an accident you need to try and prove you at least had a verbal assessment with all staff involved. This can be as simple as everyone looking at the job and pointing out the various hazards while waiting for the customer to sort the morning brews
  5. It will be a worthwhile improvisation!! Start thinking about next year, £10k on the horizon
  6. Just emptied the paypal account in. Hope the £6k target gets smashed
  7. The discharge on your chipper isn't high enough to reach the chip box
  8. Lego technics unimog, spent a few hours on it so far with the kids 'helping!!'. Only the crane to do now and start dropping hints for a full size one next year
  9. Where in west yorkshire? I could be interested in the oak as a single lump or milled on site if it is possible to remove it in sizable pieces. Let me know your location and I can possibly quote for the tree with a reduction in price if the timber is useable.
  10. The very definition of living the dream!!!
  11. Rooster74, read the first post!!! If you want the work or at least more information then contact Tom. How is anyone supposed to trust you to follow instructions on the job when you can't even do as requested to get the work!! This is an issue that comes up again and again on arbtalk and other forums.
  12. Got a job to do on the 27th as I need other businesses to be shut for access reasons other than that 2 weeks off.
  13. A bill of sale will go towards preventing prosecution for you knowingly handling stolen goods. It does not mean you get to keep the item as it was never the sellers to sell.
  14. I have had 5 1/2 years out of an entec 25hp petrol machine (timberwolf 150 but less power) and it has been excellent. I am only changing because of a deal on a greenmech quadchip I couldn't turn down. Keep them sharp and they are a cracking machine
  15. I can't see any legitimate reason to grind off a serial number
  16. It's not free, I am likely to burn £600-£800 worth of wood which I could sell this year.
  17. Thats the example I was looking for!! It's full to the top but with an awful lot more air that you really want
  18. Incorrect, there is exactly the same NUMBER of logs but you can see for yourself that there is space in the bag after shaking so the logs are now taking up a smaller volume. You no longer have a cubic meter of logs hence you would not be supplying what you state you are supplying. If you went to the pub for a pint and the landlord spilt some on his way from the pump to you would you be happy you had received a full pint since that is how it left the pump? Slightly different I know but a short measure is a short measure. Be careful how you market your logs. On your other point I do overfill so there is no chance of a customer saying that isn't a full load but I make sure I am happy with the price I get for my '2 cube and a bit'.
  19. I always sell (in volume) what I would be happy to receive, usually that means heaped as it looks like I am getting some for free. If you are that concerned about getting 1.1 cube in a 1 cube bag then up your price by 10% to cover your loss.
  20. My guess is put the bag down in photo 2 and it will just sit level like the fixed box in picture 1. Picture 2 and 3 are both loose loaded, i.e. not stacked. If I was buying from you I would not be happy to receive picture 3 as a cubic meter however as a seller I know all about settling during delivery. I sell either by the level load in the van (it measures exactly 2 cubic meters and puroposely overfill to prevent issues) or by the builders bag. I state the volume of the bag and not the volume of the logs within. If you buy a bulk bag of sand/pebbles/gravel/etc it is never filled to the top so why should logs be? If you sold a cubic meter of logs and weights and measured got involved when you arrived with picture 3 you could be in bother.
  21. About 4.5 cube so far. 15kW wetback stove connected to exchanger running all rads. Not running it 24 hours yet.
  22. Can you not just get one quote plus the one from your own company?
  23. You will quite often find you have legal cover included on your home insurance. You pay for it therefore use it. You have tried your best being civil and neighbourly so it's time for the big guns in the form of the insurance company.
