  1. Took those lights off and fitted some in the A bar. Landy runs very well, Scotland again next weekend for a bit of a run and off roading
  2. It costs something like 86p per inch and the TW150 uses 2 x 4" single sided blades
  3. Mine cost me £3k over 5 years ago and has needed very little work. It is the petrol 25hp Entec machine (pre timberwolf) but everything apart from the engine is the same as a TW150. I know I got a steal with mine as the bloke selling it didn't know what is was worth as he had only done 40 hours on it in 7 years, he was a landscaper that thought about doing tree work and bought it new but never bothered. There are some cheap dogs out there but there are some gems. If I was going for a cheap machine it would be another TW150 due to their simplicity and availability of spares. There are loads of £5k machines about but think about down time (parts availability and engineer who knows the machine) if you do have a breakdown. Kev
  4. Take a look at Alive tuning for work on a defender. Just down the road from you as well Mr 18 stoner. My defender had a remap on it when I bought it which made a difference over a standard defender. I had a small amount of work done at Alive tuning and had it remapped again. It drives beautifully, has better fuel economy and tows anything easily. Kev
  5. I pay £7 for a pair sharpening and have 3 sets on the go so just drop/pick up a set from the local dealers when ever I pass.
  6. Ring Stobarts (Neil 01768 593140) or Boomeco and they will sort you out.
  7. How many times can you actually get a tractor to the stump? Sounds OK for a site clearance job but not much else
  8. You have had 6 months service out of a bit of kit that cost you the same price as 3 and a half pints of beer and you are complaining!! Tree work is hard on kit, if it isn't trying to vibrate itself to death it is getting battered off dozens of branches day in day out.
  9. Ross has been taking the beer for you, he says he is helping you out as you are too busy to sit and drink beer. He's good like that. On a serious note, new yard a few fields from my current one in the next few months that you can drop a bit at if needed. It will all go to biomass.
  10. Cheeky get! You forgotten the last pub trip already? The beer fridge in the workshop is always full. Call in after work, it's only 2 fields away!!
  11. Fill your boots. Just had 54 tonnes picked up by Stobarts so beers on me.
  12. I was waiting for the Bolam reply!! Those that give it away to allotments etc do you end up driving around a few to find one willing to take that day or are they all begging for it all the time? The reason I started this thread was today I took a load to a local tree nursery that has had some from me before. I was about 1/2 an hour from the yard so saving an hour on a chip run would help the day. They had a full chip bay and 2 other tipper loads at the far end of the car park. They took it but said no more for a long time. I was just wondering how those without a yard managed? What about all the rakings, root balls, etc that need burning?
  13. What do you do with your woodchip? There is plenty of talk about logs but what about the chip? What do you see as being the most econimical route of disposal of this waste or do you see this as a cash crop product? Personally for the last 2 years I have been storing it in my yard and calling Stobarts in to remove it. Payment for the chip has been covering the cost of loading but not much more and it generally means a missed hour or two of work to sort the loading. Before this I had a deal with a farmer who would dispose of the chip in exchange for as many logs as he could personally use. The odd load goes to allotments for a few quid but not much and it tends to be a pain in the rear end. What do you do?
  14. where is he now based?
  15. I know that but the sort of people who think they can insure and pay monthly then cancel and have a certificate to show are a bit lacking in the intelligence department.
  16. The government have forced this. As it is a legal requirement to have motor vehicle insurance then it is now your personal requirement to tell the insurance company you are not renewing with them and you have insurance in place elsewhere. If you don't tell them you are canceling then they can just take (or try to) the premium. It is supposed to stop people from saying I didn't realise it was renewal time. You are best paying in full by cheque then they can't do it. This is also the reason why if you pay monthly and cancel mid term you must return the certificate to the insurance co. Youmcant produce a certificate you have sent back When are they going to realise however that it only costs 5p to have the certificate photocopied so if you are going to screw the system then it is really cheap to do it.
  17. I hope you don't believe this!!!:confused1:
  18. The use of a works vehicle to and from work to enable you to be available at the drop of a hat for emergency work is not a taxable perk:sneaky2:. If however you are allowed to use the vehicle for personal journeys (including to and from work if you are not on call) then you need to be declaring it. You also need to make sure you are insured to use the vehicle for non business related journeys
  19. Thats a part number I believe. The serial number is on the front of the saw next to the dogs. Might be worth checking with cash converters and running it through a couple of dealers to see if it flags on their systems.
  20. I would have said it's a repair not replace anyway??? Even if it's just until a new chassis arrives if you really want one
  21. They charge for a full tank of diesel unless you tell them you will refuel before returning it and insurance is 18% of the hire charge. Delivery/collection will kill it, have you not got a trailer you could use or hire a trailer from them for about £35 +VAT if you have the vehicle/license to tow it. I did a day with a hired in cabstar 18m operated and it cost me close to £500 inc VAT so £340 isn't too bad considering it includes everything
  22. Rodgers plant hire is about £150 + VAT for the day
  23. Just received a Spud special 200T that he sourced for me. Its a few years old but good condition, has been fettled by Spud and runs a dream and all for less than 200T's seem to be selling for on t'ebay. Another happy punter
