  1. Jonesie did the enhancement on my 201T and it really made a difference. New pot, piston, carb, coil and it runs a dream.
  2. I can confirm that the local witch I spoke to said the rain this winter will more than likely be wet, could be lumpy and it will be darker at night that at lunch time. There is also a chance the wind could be blowy. Weather men guess at best and generally the bloke you went to school with who lied day in day out is now a weather man.
  3. Congratulations Mark and family. Those emergency C sections certainly set the ring piece twitching.
  4. They do (or did) a base model 5 seater discovery 3 with no air suspension, no active diff management and difficult to find in anything other than manual. A friend of mine has one and to be honest it's a rough ride compared to mine on air. I would never go to a main dealer for anything other than warranty work on a new car. You pay a fortune for a beautiful clinical workshop filled with fitters not mechanics. The main dealer way is generally replace bits until you find the one that was a fault. They do not repair stuff and if the computer says there is nothing wrong then despite what you know as the owner you must be wrong. Find a good independent and you will save a fortune.
  5. I've had one for 6 months now and it has covered 120k, I've done 8k. Doesn't cost me any more to maintain than anything else I have had (Mercedes ML, defender, Audi's). When people talk body off it isn't an issue. The disco is designed with a quick release body that one man can remove in 4 hours which makes jobs easier and in some cases quicker. However the body would only have to come off to resolve a major issue, just about everything else can be done (all be it a bit fiddly) with the body on. My discovery had new bottom arms at 80,000 miles, it weighs 2.8 tonne and gives a magic carpet ride so something has to give on UK roads. I would have another in a flash. I have just come back from Stranraer in mine. 250 miles none stop and you get out as fresh as you get in. It will cruise all day at any speed you want and is also happy with a decent load on the tow ball.
  6. Post on here what you have for sale or are wanting and arrange to meet someone at the show. There is loads of car park wheeler dealing going on there and other shows.
  7. Can you not just bolt through the post??
  8. I did exactly the same thing 20 months ago and it is head and shoulders above my old Entec 6" petrol machine. The turntable we find really useful, it tows lovely and hardly uses any diesel.
  9. For reference hedge [hej] Show IPA noun 1. a row of bushes or small trees planted close together, especially when forming a fence or boundary; hedgerow: small fields separated by hedges. 2. any barrier or boundary:
  10. If the tree officer has been out and specifically told you that you can't remove it then trying to find a loop hole and doing it without permission/notification will either land you in deep water or make everything you apply for with the council in the future an absolute PITA. Generally hedges are exempt but hedge row trees can be protected. If it was me I would be writing to the tree officer stating that you wish to remove a hedge (not row of trees) and to your knowledge hedges are exempt from protection. State you give him/her a set number of days to respond in writing with the details of the piece of legislation which protects this specific hedge otherwise it will be getting removed. You may find the trees when planted were the subject of a blanket TPO but have been trimmed to a hedge since the TPO was served. It will probably be a paperwork shuffling exercise but it needs doing.
  11. My first didn't have a tool locker but all subsequent ones have had lockers. I would always from now on go for lockers. However, you have said this will be a second truck. Does that mean you will always be out with the other truck and does that have lockers? If this truck is purely chip/logs only then a locker is a waste of valuable space and weight
  12. I could have called to see the pair of you yesterday. I was within a few hundred yards of Hodge's house visiting the wife's relatives.
  13. I agree with most of the above. Generally commercial takes longer to pay but the reward is bigger but at the end of the day cash flow is king. You can't pay the mortgage on promises so unless you have a decent cushion of cash in the bank then commercial could be a killer. I have always played by the rule that if one client didn't pay me it wouldn't kill me. Yes I could have built a bigger business by taking more risks but what I have suits me perfectly. My worst commercial experience was a student accommodation company who were building a new development and I got the site clearance work. All prices agreed and I had in writing they would pay 14 days after invoice. I invoiced them and got a cheque for 50% and a letter stating the remainder would be paid on full occupancy of the building in case of snagging (potentially 18 months!!). I called them and they told me they do it with all the builders/plumbers/sparkies in case of leaks/electrical glitches. I stated that the trees are hardly likely to grow back since you have ripped all the stumps out with a massive 360. It needed one of the directors to over ride the accounts department who just could not see beyond the rules sheet. I did get paid in full within 28 days.
  14. For 8 years I have used the graduations on the mix can and the stihl squeezy measure bottle without issue. If in doubt I add a little extra squeeze of oil. I am quite sure anywhere between 45:1 and 55:1 will be fine.
  15. You are more likely to get the oil charge wrong than the actual petrol. 100ml of fuel won't make a blind bit of difference where 10ml of oil would. All those that insist on using 5.00 litres of petrol how do you ensure you are using exactly 100ml of oil?
  16. mine fits!! The stihl autofill spout thing. Yes it's tight but it does go
  17. It's been on ebay for the last 2 years at least!!
  18. SIX done as individual letters?
  19. I've just renewed all mine, 6 fruit of the loom polos, 2 high quality hi vis polos all embroided front and back £73. I think the hi vis ones are about £14 each done making the standard polos about £7.50 each. Mine usually end up with the odd hole in from the silky going in and out of the scabbard or caught on something or end up with a grease stain. I don't like turning up to a job where I am charging £?00's looking like a scruff so change them regularly.
  20. Something from extreme 4x4, I told them what I did with the vehicle and they supplied appropriate springs. Somewhere in the region of 3 times stiffer than land rover heavy duty. Tyres are 285 wide BFG muds Not at all, a full to the roof load of chip and I can guarantee less than a shovel full of chip/dust to come off the road At the time it was the right thing to do with the yard I had then (an acre or so of concrete, 4x4 not needed), that yard has since been sold on and developed and I am using a field which the transit was no go in in the winter. Times change and you adapt to suit, flexibility has to be the key to a small business
  21. Since these pics it's now running wider tyres and massively uprated springs and ARB. It's VERY heavy when full but handles as well as could be expected on the suspension it has. I didn't build it like this (bought it as is), I built the one Ben Edmonds has which is lower but wider. If I was to do another it would be the lower wider one. The only plus on this one is the full roof with barn doors and the fact I can chip into it right to the bulk head unhindered due to the height.
  22. I use the out of school club for 3 mornings and 2 afternoons a week meaning that at least for part of the week I have the option of an 8-5 day. I also have someone on the books that is happy to finish up a job on the days I need to do the school runs, I just take my discovery as well as the chip truck then I can disappear when needed. It also works for me to use a subbie one day a week leaving me the option to man a job up, sort out paperwork, go quoting or do SFA if I choose again leaving more time with the kids out of school hours.
  23. Yep and Stihl admitted it on Friday. "The current 201T is what the 201T should have been on release"
