  1. Good , got my last 2511 from skylands because my local dealer packed up but skylands have a well stocked on line shop for spares too.. even if you have to order parts they come quickly enough I’ve found. Woud definitely get the 1/4 sprocket and stihl chain and bar set up though.
  2. If there is one saw that benefits from a mod out the box to completely void the warranty it’s the 150 .. the saw is unusable with out it, to be honest I’ve had three unmodded echo 2511’s since saw and I doubt I would buy another 150... any other serious tuning work I give to spud or mild porting myself when replacing pistons etc usually means the saws apart but I don’t do anything drastic !
  3. Yep and I’ve done 4 150’s with never an issue with swarf , start em up straight away and blow it out if there is any ,but usually if you use a good drill bit it will come out in one sliver on the drill as the metals so soft ...if there is any dust it blasts straight out under pressure.
  4. Straight out in the Field mod with a ms 150 all that was needed was a 9mm drill bit. If the tanaka has a cat that may explain why it did fa .. From my thoughts though some saws don’t respond from being opened up like the 200t that seem to need a bit of back pressure but modern saws are very restricted to meet emission regs.
  5. Where abouts ?
  6. Another thing is if your using a 540 use the grey saw hook as it keeps it higher and barely snags unlike using a ring on the tool strop.
  7. Gets pricey on pfanners for sure , one thing I’ve noticed it’s not as bad using the 2511 and keep the brake off. 540 or 201 with stihls full chisel they are wrecked in a week.. I think there are quite a few features that could be improved for arborist saw trousers but your right this is where I would start!
  8. Ordered some bits for the alpine before Christmas and they came.
  9. Sorry but I really think the AA trying to monopolise contracts to there approved contractors is out of order.
  10. Ok looking on eBay they are 13.5 one advert is saying they are 14.5 and that definitely is not the case. To be honest the one in your photo above looks better suited to road work than the slightly larger one as the booms a lot shorter.
  11. If you want an FC contract join FISA and get 9001. Are these the AAAC who where coming from Yorkshire to keilder Paul to do the dangerous tree contracts who under cut all the locals .. i know they go for the cheapest but logistically I think even they worked that one out....also if you think best practices are sending in under paid and inexperienced staff to do “dangerous” trees just because you have ticked some boxes the AA needs to seriously reconsider how it operates for best practices.
  12. I think the one in the picture is only 12 metres ? The older type are 14.5 which I use , basically you just put the main boom up first so it’s upright and won’t be in the road , not ideal always for lower stuff.
  13. Has there been any interest or help offered from the ISA shown through this whole debacle?
  14. For that risk alone we should be banning all imported timber right now. Close down these absolutely ridiculous biomass schemes and we would have a lot more timber on the market at a sensible price instead of this farce of burning trees for payments because it’s apparently green energy.
  15. Yes will be fine.
  16. I would never buy new , nearly new yes , but what’s the point when you have lost thousands as soon as it’s off the forecourt... you can still get hpi on nearly new gear.
  17. To encourage or force epicormic growth typical of oaks naturally retrenching them selves ? In most cases it’s pretty obvious to see where they are or will naturally retrench themselves but I’ve seen some shocking stuff lately on social media.. but it’s not my place to make a comment !
  18. Was working at a school and after break we watched two care takers come out and clear up bags of rubbish , I was in disbelief that the kids where allowed to do that in the first place and that any one caught or needed punishing wasn’t picking it up, but apparently the parents come in to the school complaining about human rights if there kids are on detention for dropping litter and are forced to clean it up.
  19. Rarely base anchor, and if so it will usually be until I can isolate a better anchor ... to work off a base anchor is very rare as it’s easy to manipulate a decent route with a throw bag to set a retrievable system up.. Mostly I’m still using a pinto rig with dmm duralock despite all the bollox about the pinto not being suitable for this application. Rarely will I set a ring or unless we have to perform to best practices that day , much easier to retrieve the pinto. Some times for spar work I’ve found it is a lot easier just to set a long tailed bowline for setting rigging and face cuts on bigger wood then just pull out the tail to set for the final cut.
  20. Have been using two ropes over the last week , only one tree warranted two ropes in my view and would of used two ropes on it regardless ... have already had one near miss thanks to the positioning and obstruction of no escape route two ropes has placed me... another thing I’ve noticed is two ropes causes the perfect position for riding up your leg loops and giving them enough gap for your balls to swing in and get crushed when one rope takes the tension ... just saying. Due to the near miss though I’m out...
  21. My old man ran a couple of 261’s that he used for Sitka regen clearance contracts , if your gonna kill a saw it’s the environment to do it... one of the lads 261’s dropped its crank after 1 week from new but for some reason my fathers kept going , one was is still going and never had a bearing grease ! I’ve found with stihl in typical true German arrogance though they won’t admit there is a problem even if there is one , I had a lot of bother with some machines and stopped buying any of there products until recently.. I don’t know if they have changed but they are making some good saws now !
  22. After doing a lot of research for finding the right one for timber I got a c scope...I’ve used it about 2 times. I have been asked to go out and detect some old settlements in the border myres where they found a lot of silver digging forestry ditches in the 70’s so waiting for decent weather... apparently there is the forerunner to haidrians wall nearby that is disputed but could be worth a look.
  23. That I do mate , posting saws isn’t quite the same.
