  1. Still have not used it.... until I price flapping around like joey deacon in a tree for hours in a tangle it won’t happen either... I might have two lines to get an anchor but as soon as any major work happens I’m writing it out on a risk assessment, too dangerous.
  2. Pretty common on Sugi bars, I’ve done 4-5 nose sprockets now. At least you can replace them... I would not buy any more bars though because of the sprocket brittleness issue though.
  3. Yep , I had kind of priced the job on the basis that side of Newcastle’s council green waste was a mile down the road as it’s free every where else I use or you get paid for it.. chip is worth money so I don’t get it , I’d rather bring it back here but it’s a two hour round trip and half the day gone.
  4. Was on weigh bridge the other day loaded with beech chip and it came to 2 tonne ... I was more shocked when they said it was £45 a tonne on what had been a free chip tip.
  5. I’ve kind of always gone between the two picking out the saws I liked but sadly stihl didn’t make a saw I liked since the 046 until the 462 then the 462 to me feels like a husky, I stopped using the 460’s previous though and switched to husky as I felt the anti vibes on stihl where in general massively inferior and giving me problems. If you never had a go on the 288xp I guess the 064 would of been in the same class , I did own one briefly (got stolen ) but it always struck me as an odd ball as it was almost the weight of the 066 but less power. Back to the 500i Out in the woods makes a good point about the lack of mid range it is certainly not a 462 in comparison which I can’t fault but what the 500i will do is pull a lot bigger bar without hesitation flat out in the cut and picks up very quick to max revs which I’m guessing is why it feels a bit weak in that part of the power band.
  6. Personally I think the 500i performs like a lighter 288xp ,I always would pick up the 395 first over the 288 but with the 500i I’m not sure.
  7. Prefer the epell hook,Dmm shank is not wide enough I felt and can not close the shank to stop snagging ... although the dmm does feel crafted and weighted beautifully it just didn’t tick the boxes when actually using it.
  8. I know a lad who’s been using his 500i since day one on outsider Sitka since its been out and he rates it, I’ve only used mine for Arb work at the moment but got it from his review as I know he hammers his saws , I do like the 462 though.

    Quad bikes.

Honda Trx 350 is the best in its class I think .... I would not touch a Polaris with a barge pole any way! my old house mate brought a brand new Polaris as an upgrade for his trx and had so much bother with it he got his money back. My trx starts first time every morning and I’ve abused it on some of the roughest terrain possible and it’s never let me down.
  10. There could be services as well looking at the foot path photo, rupturing a gas or sewage main with a swift stunt fell and crane load the timber on the trailer and in the pub for lunch finish is out the window... I think it’s trickier than it looks and being oak and one of the heaviest timbers to deal with pricing by a photo on a forum is a bit errrrr .... silly??
  11. On modern quarter sawing though you would have to either turn the log every cut or use a Lucas ? Looks like you would get better recovery from traditional as well.
  12. 3x6 4x2 and 4x4 is easy money as well as what you mentioned and are easier to sell, only time I’ve made money quick milling is getting a cutting list and getting duggy fir on the mill..not that I’ve tried to hard to use the mill for a profit!
  13. Can I ask where you heard or have any links to this info rough ?
  14. Most dealers I use will offer a new saw to try out for a week or two. They will usually have one that is the demo saw, usually game changing saws battery or like these newer larger stihls that seem to have amazing power to weight and usability.
  15. No Garry I don’t and I also feel not enough trees are protected.
  16. I was again thinking about this so will add another 2ps worth (probs on about £50 by now )....in 25 years I’ve not had a single accident ,I would put this down too A ,good training and B, good apprenticeship. Now I can think of so many examples of if I had two lines in the tree I would not of lasted 25 years I would be serious dead or injured by now due to failing trees and material not going where planned due to weather or just bad judgment.. A tree work is not comparable or in a bracket you can compare to the normal working with rope regulations, there is too much debris being removed too many variables that changes the game and makes working with two ropes dangerous or a hindrance unless it’s needed , I can see things going wrong very quickly for inexperienced climbers and experienced for that matter with branches and tree tops dragging lines and loading them maybe with dire consequences.
  17. Agendas ??? I believe we should have one united agenda on this forum and thread and that is make the AA back us and show the HSE what a croc of shite this whole two rope debacle is. Bill and Marc unfortunately you have to be an AA member I believe to receive the email to reply to the ICop. This is what is boiling my pish as the will effect the thousands of Arb workers who are not memebers of the AA and there decisions will directly effect there work safety and well being by allowing this to continue. When the HSE wanted to ban top handled chainsaws I do believe it was paolo bavaresco who came to the rescue.. Why can’t an organisation which is supposed to represent us fight are corner for us.
  18. They are on the shelf’s now , I would pay the extra 150 for the 400 c-m by it’s spec but not doing much cutting at the moment and have too many 560xp spares to warrant getting a 60cc Stihl.
  19. I like them for driving but it does annoy me getting electronically harassed for seat belts , wish you could turn that alarm off!
  20. Thoughts today on the today’s job... fully intended to use two ropes but we decided to go on a single line route and use the usual work positioning strop method whilst cutting as usual.... too much hassle and would of made the job almost impossible.

    day rates

Personally I would want a minimum of £300 a day for myself with that gear so your not far off.. ideally £400-500 if you ever want to replace the mog or keep it running would be better.
