  1. don't we have enough legislation,if we carry on the way we are going, you'll need a permit to fart, and remember some of the oldest tree we have were butchered in the past. could not agree more, burnham beaches and the oaks and windsor the list could go on and they are only ancient due to a good butchering! tree work of all kinds has its places but the home owner should know the effects of the work carried out..felled a hacked sycomore today thats now twice as thick and going for the sky due to a butchering last year as the guy wanted more light didnt realise the effect of a good 40%+reduction and should of been told maybe a thin and raise would not of caused such regrowth and he wanted to keep the tree but after the butchery there was no way it could be kept if he wanted light but i think people just have an idea that thats the thing to do and it can be damn hard to change some peoples minds...
  2. diagnosis of ill health in trees by strouts and winter or any of the "research for amenity tree "books are worth buying.
  3. nice kimtree ! dont spose you wanna post more pics of your winch
  4. I think stihl has some serious issues.... one dealer i use who is more leaning to husky showed me a box of stihl carbs mostly 200ts that were under a year old that had been replaed under warrenty and told me they had changed there factory hence why they where rubbish. my other dealer says thats crap they have been just redisighned becouse no one looks after them, the case that most people i know clean there filters daily or every other seems irelivant to stihl then....personally i think if you cant maintain a saw you should not be using one. braught a new hs 81 last month ,the first stihl ive braught this year that has not had to go back for a new carb after a few tanks.but no new carb for the 81 the breather just fell off and squirted me with petrol all day instead.....

    Salmon or Trout?

good to hear the salmon are not stuck in nottingham any more mate! does the flooding put them off there course though?
  6. I got one last week ,evan though i only have worn it for one pruning job rereducing a large tpoed cherry,i have to say im anoyed at my self for dismissing it for years as another gimmick as its bloody awesome, made continual hand saw work a breeze. I dont think any ony would regret buying one. I would like em to make an attachment to slip in my felcos now though!

    Spikes

true mate i know what your saying i only use mine on pines spruces ect where ill be doing a lot of cutting around that area and to flip off snags or big trees were i cant see where it is and dont wanna cut through it. You dont wanna be dragging one around say a big willow take down just to get out on some awkward verticle limbs to set up tip ropes but if your learning to spike it gets your confinence up quickly. i gave my groundy both the normal and a wire core and he got on a lot better with the wire core...... i spose a bit of a confidence booster to some thing a bit alien to him.

    Spikes

definietly agree marc, try before you buy! evan the 5 mins on a set of spikes would not be enough i would want to try them for atleast a couple of hours and get them adjusted to suit you,if you dont get on with a pair and they make your feet ache you will regret spending the money.....also a wire core flip line and gloves are essential to efficient spiking, seen some pretty bad accidents without gloves on and advoided a few with them! The wire core means you can move fast and avoid snagged and work confidently.

    Salmon or Trout?

id go with salmon as sea trout tend to run at night or early evening still would be hard to tell from a photo! I find them amazing to watch running upstream and could watch them all day but usually my girlfriend has to drag me away...
  10. Yep bill but i much prefere them hydraulic guilotine spliitters to the hycracks...but they can be damn dangerous too but i think to be safety approved they have hand guards that operate the hydaulics and hold the log ...my dad took them off his and had a foot pedal installed to speed things up....he ended uplosing a finger to it! my hydrocrack is now ****** any way as i snapped the pto shaft and bent the screw when i attempted to cut logs yesterday....peice of junk!

  16. DONT [/img] spent the afternoon in casulty due to an incident with a log splitter ......fuckin embarising getting a ring cut off my hand when it snapped and embeded itself back through my finger.............strange thing is today is the only time ive worn it in 7 months after going out last night and forgetting to take it off this morning .

nasty gnarly saws the 266's will have your knuckles off and build you a sweat up trying to start one. loadsa torque on em though!
  21. tel are you using 8mm hitch cord ? are you using decent cord at a decent length.... i cant believe if your tying it right its slipping....thats why its supperior it dont slip or lock up !in 14 years i havnt found a hitch that will beat it in performance
  22. i wouldnt want to do a 25 % on it just a 5% on that top corner just so i got an excuse to climb it and workon an interesting tree! or pollard it!
  23. I would be inclined to drop the right side in a bit to balance it up and maybe it might evan encourage a bit more growth lower in the canopy but i would not wanna do anything to drastic
  24. too many hours and its never enough ......although this bloody forum always distracts me when i should be doing invoices, quotes and planning applications!
