  1. yes two ash both mature and twinned stemmed luckily i never rope in my life line to or off the stem i rig out of in both cases they split out at the forks luckyily resting in neighbouring trees so i didnt fall to far!and one lombardi pop.....the lombardi was by pure luck it didnt take me and 40ft with it........a tree in the same avenue did ten years earlyer and killed the climber....apperently he hit the ground first then was crushed by the sailing down popler top he had just tryed to rig out....next time we worked on one we got the job becouse in are risk assement we were the only people who reconised these big old pollards were seriously flawed and the only sensable option was a mewp
  2. the guys ive met who work for say sky lift are not! I looked at 16 60ft limes down a drive on the side of a wood last month, take the dead tops and reduce to sound wood was the spec, with a mewp i could do it easily in a day.....in my position id rather do 5 a day and give myself somthing to fill the diary in and make it last three days than say pay sky lift or another company £600 for the hire plus my fee. if i was working for other companys ive subbed or been employed buy they would of definietly used a mewp. id rather climb trees, but when i have used them experienced cutters like your self would be supprised how much time they shave off the job and how easy it makes it. not a fan of those tiny accsess things though give me a big old 50m lorry based or a mog platform any day although it does get a bit boring!
  3. i know the last two ive dealt with have had no arborist reports what so ever......and was pretty shocked after a conversation with one of the surveyors....still i would not make a decision or put anything in writing about it as im not qualified enough or insured to make such reports or claims,i just do the work im told.
  4. no just rings but its still worth 1800 to the dealers so hes trading it in for some polaris sport both are road registered .dont think think the honda was fast enogh for him but he did trade that for 2002 crf 450 road legal crosser so it always was going to be a bit tame
  5. i think most subsidance ive delt with has been down to shite building..........if the surveyors cant find a tree they will blame it on a shrub .......it amazes me people with no arb knowledge are responsable for procesing claims worth millions
  6. my house mate used to have a trike.....we called him cliff richard after trying to go up a cliff and snapping his legs after it fell back on him bloody horrible things! sposed to be part exchanging his broken honda 400 quad 4x4 with winch wich was handy for towing the chipper through boggy woods for a polaris sport.

not telling!.......a few unfinished things left in court.....would worry about been kicked straight back out and that a long flight home but im having urges to give it a go. one of my best mates is marrying a mauri chick whos over at the moment lucky bastard! loverly country though, not as easy to get tree work though as they all seem to want to do it or maybe i wasnt trying hard enough.. and enjoying to much of every thing else
  8. all i can say mate is im very envious to be in your position......it keeps me awake and the main reason my dad sold up....i could go on about some of the circamstances and extremes they have gone to to steal stuff and it makes my blood boil so ill shut up now!

more migrants than ive ever seen in auckland and the trees are twice as big in places.id still rather be there if i could get definite citizen ship but i think i screwed it up last time i went!
  10. there was a lot of talk of mewps being crap for reductions ...some of the best large reductions ive done have been on 50m mewps on big beach and limes ...have not used one for 5 years but they do fit this role very well, the only role ive found them crap in has been dead wooding and thinning. personly id rather be in the bucket of a platform chogging down especially with a big saw its easily faster...
  11. my dad used to operate a cheap ex bt transit pick up with a small cherry picker about 30ft was only about £2500. Ideal foir raising street trees, made council contracts a breeze and more prophitable also trimming hedges and blocking down and small reductions where made very easy safe and quick, somthing i would consider buying myself evan if it only goes out once a week . the time and effort it could save
  12. trust me mate dont make any difference, im down the road from rebecca,we where done over- armoured padlock boxes and abbloy paddlocks- 5 pikies -30 mins. Or they jump in the truck when you have just finished packing up! got one guy trying his catapult on are security lights at night a couple of friendly shots over his head and i never seen any one move so fast and they didnt go back to that yard to rob it for 5 years after!
  13. what sort of plane was it andy? The base i worked on at used to fly wellingtons before they handed it over to the yanks for there fighter group. one of the wellingtons collided with a german ju88 on a recon mission . An evacue who lived in my old neighbors house was caught with a few thousand rounds of german ammo in his shead from the reckage by the home guard and got in serious trouble!
  14. actualy they are definietly not steel they are ally wich would explain the scores taken out by the cutters! maybe ill think twice about getting too ambitous with my raker filing...
  15. thats what i was told too and i thought mine where the newer ones and they are definitly steel....but then again most acidents are kick back related when snedding or have been for me...... not quite the same conditions as dropping a 66 flat out on your boot
  16. Ive been wondering for two years if the pfanner trol fighters have steel or composite caps and with the help of a 357 on tuesday i discovered they where steel.... personally i think no saw trousers are gona stop any pro saw going full bore...i once hit a pairs of sips with an ms46 and the only thing that stopped me cutting was feeling snow on my shins where the saw had pulled the trouser leg up but it was just spitting the kevlar out the back like saw dust and had cut through every layer and was about to go further!
  17. no ivey is bad ! in every sense for me, it now grows faster in are milder climate and i dont care what people say ive seen it constrict growth and weaken trees, every storm blown tree ive done this year has been covered in ivey........ read an article i think in euro arb saying that in a few years time ivey will have taken over most are hedge rows replacing the traditional species and most hedge row will be lost forever,oh and its a pain in the arse to chip!dont get me wrong im all for it in certain habitats but its definietly a problem getting worse and encouraged becouse its been left for years for the nesting birds story
  18. just found the article on fig tree pruning in oct 07s issue just what i needed to convince the crazy woman who keeps hassling me to leave me alone untill june! bobs got some top ideas
  19. yes your right andy! i just dont get why some mags will do a 3 page article about chainsaw bars? fair enough but any one using a saw should of been given the training and booklets to deal with.........sheesh and they could of posted another 3 page article on unimogs!its all good really ,i actually do look forward to reading them.....nearly as much as reading the unread posts on here!
  20. yeah but not to much ... dont realy care about the latest risk assement to take a crap on a site. and i get enough visits from bloody bat man trying to fine me for taking down roosting trees when they are not!, by now i think like most of us i know what im doing other wise i would go back to college
  21. insurance is based on turn over usually........in your case of earning what you said on another thread it willl a lot more than mine! bryant kesek are mine ....very reasonable
