    hook/pole

Not want you want to hear but i like the jamesons i could not afford the whole set either but i buy one more pole every time i go to the local saw shop got 4 now! definietly handy to have behind the seat along with a big shot wich you can also use on the poles as well as the hook. I might have enough old ally poles lieing around to make a set but i have had to drill out the ends to put a bolt through as the screws are knackared and i think ive lost the hook that has snapped! but would not take alot to weld if i can find it!
  9. the vt is a climbing hitch suited to a different climbing syle than the one your learning on as you are climbing arm over arm instead of just body thrusting its done by pulling up say 3-4 pulls then taking up the slack untill the weight of the rope will self tend any slack for you..it desends far suppior to any other knot ...i would stick wit what your on though to get some confidance up as the vt can be unpredictable if your not used to it
  10. the pulley is just under your knot so as you pull the tail ofthe rope to take up slack line the pulley pushes the knot up for you so you dont have to use 2 hands when coming back in from limb walking and you can balance your self with the spare hand.
  11. not to shabby mate, goin well maybe untill i get my tax bill any way. your old transit went straight through its mot the other day ....think it helped the guy wanted some wood for his fire!but its been good!
  12. I would start by practicing on long low limbs on a large tree so your maximising the benafits of having a high anchore point so you can put more weight in the harness and lessen the need to hold on to any thing other than your rope also maybe a tree with an open canopy and always choose the best route for your climbing line free from obstructions...my prefered knot would be a vt as it never jams and with a pulley under it so you can come back in one handed or the rope will self tend if there is enough weight on it....practice makes perfect!
  13. was chatting to one of the south cambs guys yesterday top bloke atleast its north north herts ...planning there is getting a nightmare and they are 2 weeks behind the 6 week dead line so im doing work with out the letters...gotta do some work!
  14. the edelrid xperience i got from you ian was pukka stuff and damn good price too
  15. not telling........I think people wanna laugh when they look at normal saw boots but dare not as they look like they would hurt if they kicked you in the head ,i get the feeling wearing red ones you might have to be testing that theory....plus in my mind they bring up images of rick from the young ones in red suede boots that prevent me from taking red foot wear seriously:D
  16. and i think the colours would clash with my stretch air jacket!.
  17. mmm maybe but i would still feel a bit of a nob when having a pint after work in my new red shoes!
  18. look like nice boots...apart from the colour other wise id buy a pair tommorow
  19. i woul only take it a quarter turn past the manafactures settins but that no substitute for a properly tuned saw ...one of my local dealers does it for free..

ive had mine on the last week, great with warming wet gloves but the guy on the chipper is getting jealous!
  21. not from what i have seen around my way..... one of the first ones i diagnosed with leaf miner a few years ago, whilst every tree around it showed sighns of bleeding canker this one did not and still doesnt ive also repollared some old hulks that had severe bleeding canker they came back very lush but got leaf minor the next year wich they defineitly did not have when i pruned them as it was in sept when its very noticabe...not that i would rule what your saying ...many ive seen that have had bleeding canker now have both but they seem to show sighns of bleeding canker first...ive also noticed sycomore with leaf miner this year as well, and birch and maples with severe cankers
  22. imagine as the hinge closes it cant becouse as the inch or so cut out the bottom of the face prevents it from doing so causing it to pop off the hinge and jump...this is not somthing i would do on larger trees as the weight could cause it to barbers chair or ash wich is very prone to barbers chair......
  23. The main princaple of the dutchmans is to over cut the bottom of the gob cut say an inch or so.....in the back cut still leave a hinge but be aware that you have already lost an inch in the face, when the tree starts to fall on the hinge compression will amount on the over cut bottom of the face causing the spar to kind of jump of the hinge.........bad point is its probably a good way of causing barbers chair as shown on tree spyders web site. Ive used in loads and never had a problem, its great on say willow birch or leylandii where the hinge fibres really hang on and you want the top when dismantling to go in the direction of the face not close up in full swing and snap off and go behind! found it works great if felling trees at say fence height and you want the tree to clear the fence and not have the buts through the bottom of it.
  24. ill only price low when its slack...
