1. Another thing to bear in mind is your not dragging and chipping 3-4 loads of brash a day hand balling tons of timber or working on multiple wind blow with large conifer on a hill putting 5 litres of fuel through a saw, teetering around on spikes dragging big saws around all day on a slimed up beast in gale force winds or any of the other crap forestry Arb jobs 5-6 days a week I can think of... your twiddling nobs on a self propelled machine which I have found some of the easiest money I've ever made in this game ,if you did any of the above I doubt you would even have the energy to come on Arb talk and be a martyr and repeatedly tell every one how many hours you have worked.. just saying.
2. Vitamin pills and work less , I used to do 7 day weeks ,not take holidays just the money I was entitled to through paye time off, completely burnt my self out by my early 30's and really regret it. I love work but if you don't draw a line your body will.
3. Not really worth it unless you adjust the actuator or fit a bleed valve to wind up the boost, intercoolers just allow you to run more boost as they keep the temps Safer and potentially the engine from detonating.. usually with an old engine winding up the boost only ends one way!
4. lol that's my take on it ! Used to do a great shoot 30-70 birds max ,lunch a brace and £20 and also the guns would buy you drinks until closing... that closed down after the old keeper died who was a true country gentleman... then went on to another shoot which 200 birds was considered poor and the guns shot at any thing that moved including low birds in front of us beating,if I had been payed £100 I would not of gone back.
5. Often you hear customers say "oh that's made such a difference " barely I notice tbh but twice this week I've done jobs and thought that really has ! First was a leylandii hedge that had gone to court over being cut , now they have fantastic views down the Valley half way through
6. Every year I see another 100 acres or more of ancient Northumbrian pasture ploughed up.. I visited the farm a few years back I had grown up on and it put me off meat for a few years .. the cow sheds gone and a new fully automated pig unit that opened shutters and doors to go with the time of day and self feeding silos for the animals , inside lay a few dead carcasses amongst the other over crowded pigs it actually made me feel disgusted that any respect seemed to of gone. If subsidies go this will be the only sort of farming left ,more intensive and more land for wheat... not good.
7. I only use them on big hairy dirty conifer stems to flip through little bits I've missed with the saw which you try not miss to any way.
8.
Hi Ben I did , hope your settling in well ...watch out for the thieves though ! All the best mat.

9. Sips Keiu jacket would be a great choice...I know of a few women who tried use and rate them.
10. Would of probably all been burnt for biomass ! If I had land to plant trees on western red cedar would be a first choice ...it seems to be commanding the highest price as a soft wood when I looked in to buying a load to mill.
11. It's brutal.. But it's a satisfying task.
12. Only real issue my 395 ever gave me was it repeatedly broke the fuel line in the tank and filled the carb with dust so needed the carb gauze cleaned and fuel filter re attaching , I think spud put a new line in when he ported it.. oh and the clutch , I've never seen a clutch wear as bad but it has rang a lot of big timber up, it's my oldest saw but one of my favourites.
13. It's been replaced by the 395 .... which is essentially the same saw. I really like the 395 ,run a 36"bar happily on it.
14. Value for money for sure but whilst splitting extra small logs I had one flip and smash up my hand pretty bad but they are faster than a tractor hydraulic, I would buy another of these Posche small pto splitters with out a second thought ,15 years old and has split thousands of tonnes with no real issue also fitted with a retro foot pedal which is not really legal but owner operates?
15. Stihl U.K. , I rang them from the dealer my self as I could not believe they would not fix under warranty as the dealer said he would not honour the warranty because I had not used stihl super on a km130 unit ... so I asked if I ran aspen in a brand new unit which I needed as I had a load of attachments would they honour the warranty if any thing went wrong again to which they replied no , only unless it was ran on stihl hp super. I ran it on aspen any way and it still dropped a valve 7 months later and I vowed never to buy another stihl again.
16. Are you sure about stihl though? They told me point blank they would not honour a warranty if I used aspen.
17. Lol , I would say the 560 is the best they have made ! it's the Ferrari of 60cc class.. I've been working down racks thinning with a 560 whilst the other guy has been on a 357 both 15" full chisel and have been nearly a rack ahead by lunch so we swapped saws and it again evened things out by the end of the day.... it's a beast an absolute animal and I would rather use one than an over weight underperforming saw especially if I was getting paid by the tonne, any how I would expect to replace a saw almost yearly if I was full time felling .. in the mean while I give the wreck to spud buy a new saw and he builds me a ported and fully modded monster which puts more of a smile on my face every time it smashes up timber ,I do like to leave it as a back up though as it's too lively and costs me a fortune in starter recoils as the popped up piston seems to give it stupid compression and tears them appart!
18. Me too , looks like them lads had a 10am finish though👍🏻
19. Get the large tooth tsurugi , I did try a medium which does leave a smother cut but it is not massively noticeable just cuts slower than the large tooth which performs more like a natanoko or zubat but a great saw for accurate tight cuts say on say formative pruning young trees and fruit tree work... any thing else I use a sugoi or ms 150.
20. Valid points Tom ,FMS are great to deal with so will definitely be having a look at the oehler, we did try and buy a small uni for the alpine and they really seemed not bothered if they sold one or didn't.
21. Double drum would be out of budget ,was hoping to use the alpine winch as a retrieval instead but that may or may not work! Have briefly worked along side a 8.5 krpan and was impressed. 90 -120 hp tractor Tcd , you still rating the BGU ?
22. I do like an igland winch , the baby one on our alpine is a great bit of kit, the price of a new 85h with extras against the other brands, would be interesting to hear opinions.
23. Definitely mate, has any one used the tajfun 8.5ahk ?
24. Looking for a 7-8 tonne single drum winch , any recommendations?? any features which we should be looking to get that would make life easy especially on slope work ? Cheers, mat.
