  1. I don't think the cutter was at error , the guy pulling is where it went wrong you never just stop pulling as soon as the tree starts moving with wind or heavy leans , having a pull that can keep up speed is the only thing that will work in those situations. Saying that dealing with Lombardies in heavy winds unless it's in your favour is a really stupid thing to do any way but for the reasons Sean stated I imagine why it happened.
  2. Good post Sean , I think your absolutely right.
  3. 12 for me , 14s just feel wrong ,sap power and burn saws out quicker.
  4. If I was climbing and wanted saws to cover all bases 201 with a 12" -461 or 441 on 20-25" and maybe if I had a good year and had to spend some money a 661 or 66 with a 36" The 461 handles a 25" no bother though and would fill all the gaps if just one saw was needed. Personally I would chose the 576xp on a 24" though
  5. Definitely it went spot between those two cars ,Oh wait .......
  6. I'm pretty sure I had a conversation with the distributor about an upgrade for increased pressure for the muffs to seal out sound...this was was available or happening, but was unlikely that pfanner where developing higher snr protection. I would contact clarkes to confirm this though.
  7. That's about the size of it .. The tree could of been totally riddled with hornet moth and the stem just mush despite they are the most sail like of trees to work on and in that wind they should of left site and gone home or too another job in those gusty conditions ... Ironically I've heard a horror story first hand of what was expected to be done at this company and it is far worse than the above scene but you would of thought some sort of protocol would of been inforced after any serious incident but I guess it would of been swept under the carpet like this one will be.
  8. By the reel from where ever is cheapest for the 3/8 running saws as they seem to catch the nails and stones in most situations for us in tree work. For the toppers and 550's and 260's by the loop as they don't seem to go through as much from where ever I'm passing or buying from at the time.
  9. Who did you sell too ? We got stopped road side by a timber merchant out by blanchland the other day wanting hard wood saw logs , can pm you his number.
  10. He will still have to pay a sellers fee even if you don't get your item .. Does not really help you out though.
  11. Leather bottoms over the Velcro defiantly !
  12. As it has pretty much the worse hearing rating of any lid on the market so won't be able to hear any one taking the pish when your deaf any how. 😆
  13. Egger and park end will usually buy all the softwood they can take?
  14. This ! I have 15" Oregon and Sugi on my pair of 560's and would pick the Oregon up every time ....it's lighter and the saw handles better ,If you were using it for Arb work you would not notice the difference probably but all day usage on say snedding out Sitka you certainly do notice.

    550xp

You removed the spark arrestor ?
  16. Is it true black poplar or the hybrid ? True black poplar is very rare now also it has some stunning Ray's when Milled. Hybrid though is brittle junk only good for matches in my opinion and most of the stuff especially down south seems riddled with hornet moth any way and I imagine that would definitely be the case if your tree is wind blow ...We have given arctics away at £100 or less a load just to get rid of it.
  17. To be fair too the saw it does not look a particularly bad design or filter , I find any saw will let fine dust through no matter what , you can get HD kits for the stihls but in my experience of them they sap as much power as having a dirty filter and I've never seen a ms460 for example go pop either despite the fact they seem to suck in more dust than I've ever seen on a saw !
  18. If your milling I would expect to clean the filter a lot more any way .. I would possibly do mine 2-3 times a day if going flat out.
  19. Will have to go and have a hunt for it again one weekend. Can't load it Paul at the minute but will have a look when my phones finished doing its thing
  20. Spinners work well on the Allen so I'm told last time I worked on the banks there ,I would of loved to of had a go with either though! Did loose a nice sea trout on the north Tyne on a fly last week though.
  21. Yep getting eaten as I type !! Cragside .... Does any body have a location for the UK's tallest Scott's pine there ? I would spend a good deal of time sitting on Allen-mouth beach Darrin or in the river mouth casting at sea trout!
  22. To be honest I think they are one of the most unhelpful companies I've ever dealt with when it came to making a large claim they dragged it out for as long as they possibly could and made the whole situation even more stressful. 1 out of 10 from me.
  23. Nice work tim , good to hear the 560 singing with some great cutting .
  24. I work a lot with my dad who is a serious workaholic, he's just come in from being out starting at 7am on a firewood processor , I really don't know how he keeps going but I do really enjoy climbing or cutting for him and the team work involved is probably better than most of the crews I've worked in and for.
