  1. If you don't mind me tagging along I would like to join you? Would be good to meet you anyhow.
  2. Good idea Simon. Must have been a good evening. I have been meaning to pay that place a visit for a little while as I have just moved to the Midlands.
  3. Did you have your ballistics on and the chipper running when you mentioned it?
  4. It says they did too!! What happened to just listening to where the voices are coming from?! On a more serious note, I wonder whether the tree was ever inspected. By the looks of the fracture point there should have been some signs that something was up?
  5. Intriguing! Could you explain a bit more about the science behind this?
  6. I would be interested to know what 'level' this accreditation holds, i.e. is it more advanced than AA Tech Cert or Prof Dip?
  7. I really don't know much about it Tony, but would be interested. I have heard of it, but have got the impression (which may be wrong) that it was more common/popular in the US. I have no idea (although I am about to look it up now!) how you would get certified....assessment of work/exams??
  8. Wow, looks like a great day. What a place. I lived in Woodbridge for a year or so, but before I got the arb bug. I think I missed out heading over there. Must be some contenders for the arbtalk calendar in that collection...
  9. Great looking site, nice one. If you are looking for constructive criticism: - I agree with the comments about 5 years combined experience - not alot really. Better to put up some photos of work you have done. - I think your ArbCare logo is too small. It should be bigger than 'Hampshire Tree Surgery' if that is your company name. Hope that helps?
  10. I think it's a good idea and would buy one or two for sure. I would like to see something more than a generic tree calendar though - there are already plenty of those around and I seem to get one every Christmas. Either something humorous or some interesting facts on each page to accompany the pics. Nice one sean.
  11. Particularly 6.43 regarding publicity. Where trees are likely to draw considerable public interest the LPA are advised to display a site notice etc. It's not a legal requirement tho.
  12. Yes of course, didn't you know?! You need to wink and then pat the other persons bottom three times. Let us know how it goes.
  13. Good idea. I would come if it were in the right place.
  14. Be my guest, you'll find the job advert in the employment section of the forum. Anyone else?
  15. I think that specialised areas of Arb will grow and establish, but on the whole arb will look pretty similar. All the above discussion regarding new techniques and a more holistic approach to tree management/conservation/ecology is evidence that new awareness and markets are growing which can only be a good thing. However, as long as trees continue to exist in very close proximity to people and buildings, the bread and butter work of pruning and felling will go on. That's my over-simplified view anyway.
  16. Having read this I have to say I find it very vague! I know it's early days for research, but this paper does little to help distinguish from phytopthora or chronic oak decline. Will certainly keep my eyes peeled for symptoms but there is obviously more research to be done here.
  17. Ouch!! Sorry Alderwood - fair play for posting pics of your work and everything but to be honest I think that tree looks horrible.
  18. How old is the house and what kind/depth of foundations does it sit on? How much other vegetation is in the area that would also influence the soil moisture? Does the tree predate the house? Might be worth asking a building surveyor to comment as well.
  19. The tree has enveloped an entire victorian post - just the sign peeking out now!
  20. Thanks Secdean. We are still happy to receive applications if you would like to send me your CV.
  21. Doh - can't make that weekend. Have fun y'all.
