  1. Terry McGovern is a trainer and assessor in your area. I can't remember what his company names is but if you look in the yellow pages he is in there.
  2. Good, I'll recognise you already which helps! See you there.
  3. Anyone going? I am going for the first time this year and looking forward to it. Would be great to meet up with any of you that are going.
  4. Well said that man. The PTI is a poor course but a fair assessment of competence. The fungi ident is dead easy as it is an open book exercise. Hope you work something out with your boss. Bummer about the shoulder.
  5. What are you saying/asking? The forum works better when people can understand what you write.
  6. Depends where you are. Different areas of the UK have different rates. When I was a subby climber in Bristol £90 was ok for a competent climber. £100 if you are good, and more if you are the mutts nutts. Do you know your local market? Is there a demand for subbies? If not, stick in employment.
  7. I have done it once on a row of skinny poplars that had no limbs to rope around for at least 50ft. It should have been a mewp job really but wasn't my call. As a rule it's a no no though.
  8. Cool vid!
  9. Great job, lovely shape.
  10. ...ish. It's about 30 mins to Coventry from where I work. When are you up?
  11. Is Steve coming up to the midlands then? Fancy a pint?
  12. Looks like a good job there Simon. Ditto the comment on the sign.
  13. A bit blustery but not too bad really. I didn't personally attend the Beech tree but I would like to know if it failed at the root plate. Perhaps the very dry spell earlier this summer followed by some sharp showers and winds caused the root ball to socket out?
  14. Bad news. We cleared up one that fell on an old man in his car in Birmingham yesterday. He was taken to hospital but I haven't heard the latest. Birmingham Post - News - West Midlands News - 60ft tree falls on to car in Kings Norton
  15. I am starting a part time course there in September too and have had similar trouble getting any details out of the college. Currently all I have is a start date and the list of fees due, but no syllabus, timetable or reading list!! Hope it improves...
  16. The system doesn't TPO inappropriate trees, but TOs can. I agree about being able to view all TPO and CA details online - I think this is in the pipeline for most LA's anyway. Some already do it.
  17. Not really, no! It would be nice to think that the AA, FC, ISA and ICF could all sit round a table and talk about our common ground and how we could all join forces for all of our benefit. I don't know how realistic that is though.
  18. Cool idea! Let us know if you hear of any result published.
  19. Good posts mr culture. Do you have an idea about what the representative body should look like?
  20. Are they the Henessy hammocks? I have always wondered how comfy they are for an actual nights sleep.
  21. Congratulations!
  22. The LA can suggest a reduction but they have no liability if the tree fails in to the road and causes an incident! Even if you were in a Conservation Area and the LA had some control, they couldn't warrant making a TPO on that tree so they couldn't reject a notification to fell it. Not that I am saying that's what you should do - as Bundle2 says, we can't really make a proper judgment from a photo.
  23. What height are the Daldinia in the picture at? I am supposing head height/lower stem. With saprophytes in that area, quite severe dieback in the crown and Ash's relatively poor ability to contain decay I would err on the side of caution. In a different location I would say try and retain, but I wouldn't want to put my name against a recommendation to retain that tree next to a road.
  24. Seems ok for me. I have attached the site plan for you here....hope it works APF Site_Plan_v2_82010.pdf
  25. With a normal measuring tape the best thing to do would be to put it round the stem and get the circumference, and then do a bit of maths to work out the diameter. diameter = circumference divided by pi (3.141)
