  1. Looks great Justin. Hope it makes you squillions of pounds!
  2. Depends alot on the soil and species of tree. Some trees will send out roots radially over twice the height of the tree. If he is that worried you could dig some trial pits and see if you can find any roots.
  3. I want one! Going to start writing a business proposal immediately.
  4. Do you have a link to Mike's letter Sean? I haven't seen it yet.
  5. Saw this at the LA I used to work for. I emailed this photo to the TO who was not amused to say the least as this work had not been put on to his desk at all.
  6. Holnicote is beautiful. I did my felling tickets in the larch plantations there. Stunning place. Glad you enjoyed the course.
  7. I would suggest you call rather than waiting for someone to call you?
  8. I used to do some work for Josh Brown of Bristol Tree Care - you'll find him in the yellow pages/Google. He is a very nice bloke; not sure if he is after any people at the moment but if you offer him some free labour to prove yourself you never know! All the best for your search.
  9. Nice one, thanks for posting Dave. Have you done this course?
  10. Looks like extensive squirrel damage to me.
  11. Thanks for that peeps. We have been asked to remove a small infested tree. I was wondering about spraying the tree first to kill off as many caterpillars as possible and therefore reduce the risk to our operators when removing the tree. I am aiming to incinerate the tree on site a week or so later. Sound feasible?
  12. Do you guys know how effective spraying these critters is?
  13. I would have thought that Marcus and Andrew would be pleased that some other big names are putting their weight behind it.
  14. Fantastic pics of a very professional looking job! Thanks for sharing!
  15. I used 2 different companies for PL and PI. From memory I got £1million PI and £2million PL for about £700. Sorry I can't remember off hand who the companies were. One was Trust I think.... Worth ringing about.
  16. You can buy OS maps with detailed aerial photographs overlaid from companies like centremapslive. That way you can plot by eye on the photos?
  17. You might get some info at tomorrows 'webinar' run by Key Systems. Have a look at this link... KeySCAPE Systems | Managing Tree Survey Data in AutoCAD | BS5837:2005 Conformance Webinar I went to a seminar they ran a while ago and found it of use regarding data collection and handling. We use Digiterra which works for us.
  18. No, sorry dave. Was on a long walk with a friend who was getting impatient of my frequent stops for tree photos!
  19. Saw these Beeches on the Cotswold Way last week. They were part of an avenue of 20 or so trees next to arable land. They seem to be creating a dense inner crown just above the main bole. The main crown was still largely in good health so I was surprised to see this happening already. Could the trees be preparing to shed their extremeties so are 'planning ahead'? Any ideas?
  20. Too right! My wife couldn't watch! Brilliant to see old kit still doing what it was made for. And old geezers still doing what they love.
  21. Nice! I saw this nice old 1920s mill working this weekend too.
  22. Coupla Polyporus squamossus that I spotted on a walk last week.
  23. Could be - otherwise Treelife do a short course specifically for BS5837. I would ring Keely at Treelife about the Tech Cert to find out if it is running next year. I think it will depend on whether the new course material and exams have been written. She will have the latest info. Home
  24. Here are a few more that I saw this weekend! The old Mill was fantastic - I think it was built in 1920s!
