  1. No, the RPA is calculated from the stem diameter not crown size.
  2. I have never been but was thinking about going this year. Is it any good - ie worth the drive from Bristol? Anyone else going?
  3. Fantastic effort Matt - you have obviously got some natural talent for that.
  4. 5 years old! Mine is 18 this year and still going strong!
  5. I climb on Edelrid Timber Blue with eye to eye tenex - I know alot of people don't like the tenex but I find it really nice to climb on. It self tends when I'm about 30ft+ up and grips nicely when you sit back. I bought tenex from Proclimber - think I might try the Ocean Polyester cord next time though as a friend of mine is climbing on that and it has hardly even glazed at all in almost 6 months which almost makes up for the £20 price tag!
  6. Surely it has to be a no? You can change the shape of the RPA as long as the overall area is not diminished, but this is usually to accommodate existing structures I think. Aye, I reckon they're stuffed. Ha ha!
  7. Ha - they sure have guts don't they! Nice to see some justice for those conned.
  8. Surely where a tree is thought to be involved an Arb report is commisioned? That's what companies like OCA and Marishal Thompson do for a living isn't it? I agree that often trees are not to blame for subsidence, but where there is a possibility felling a tree is alot cheaper than underpinning which often doesn't solve the problem anyway.
  9. I hope you've got a secure yard now that everyone can see how much kit you've got!
  10. Cool, thanks Tockmal. Nice idea.
  11. Wow - did that tree really fail mid-stem? Expensive looking gate-posts...
  12. Really interesting thread, thanks Monkeyd - this isn't something I have had the opportunity to try yet. I can see why some folks get in a sweat about it as it goes against the grain of how we are used to doing things, but hey, new research will always bring up new stuff to try on certain trees. I like it.
  13. Great pics on a cool looking job. Thanks Blue.
  14. Well done everyone - good on you steve for organising it all. Out of interest - are there more results than those detailed in this thread?
  15. Good luck everyone - I can't make the 'live draw' in the chatroom but hope it's fun. I really wanna win something!
  16. i'm sure you wrote this on the Treehouse last year!
  17. Just saw this job advertised: http://www.horticulturejobs.co.uk/job/301034/team-leader-arborist I would love to apply for this job but I am in the wrong place at the wrong time:bawling:. Maybe one you fine fellows/lasses would suit it?
  18. Worked Friday in rain/sleet/snow - one of the worst days I have ever worked. At least it was easy felling of little willows. Reduced a fairly large and extremely slippery lime tree today - I am done in. Yuck.
  19. I am almost positive I recognise the guys voice at the beginning and end. He currently works for Hi-Line but I can't say whether or not that was them doing the fells.
