  1. Hi Rich - I have got personal accident income protection with a company called Pioneer Friendly. My monthly premium is fairly reasonable, although I opted for the cheaper option of the payments starting after the first 4 weeks post incident. If you want the policy to pay out starting on the day you stop work the premium doubles. This policy isn't just for accidents either - it'll cover you for any legitimate reason to stop work.
  2. Come on tight-arses!! Do it for the kids!
  3. Nobody climber around here can command more than £150 on a regular basis. Not even High Scale the expert topper and lopper!
  4. Agree with Yorkshireman - paying for training may seem like a risk but if you have employed the right person for the right job and you treat them right they should stay anyway. Having said that their personal circumstances can sometimes force them to leave. I used to work for a travel company that sent me round the world on fact-finding trips. They implemented a policy like the one Big A mentioned. It was fair enough (although not well received by the staff) and caused me to turn down a trip when I knew I was making plans to move on. Seems to me that hiring subbies is an easier option.
  5. Exactly - I know that one mallet expert (forget his name) runs a one day course on using a mallet to estimate decay. Apparently he used to be a piano tuner though so has an exceptional ear!
  6. Surely not - undoubtedly some machines are better designed and manufactured than others? You can't rag a Datsun Sunny around a racetrack like you can a Ferrari!?
  7. Aye, Merry Christmas ya'll. May the new year bring with it lots of nice work, wads of cash and some shiny new gear to try out! Cheers!
  8. I have incriminating photos to prove otherwise....
  9. Absolutely. Sorry Andy, I wasn't rubbishing your last post - it does make sense. I'm still coming to terms with the fact that I left a relatively poor paid job in the travel industry 3 years ago to start doing tree work but I'm earning even less now! Still, I didn't swap jobs for the money, I just wanted to climb some trees!
  10. I find playing the comparison game with other industries a bad habit - tends to get me down!
  11. OK - worth everyone knowing in case they are offered anything. Sorry to hear about that.
  12. Here is a picture of some trees. I find it quite soothing.
  13. Hi Madclimber - what were the 2 saws?
  14. Very nice! Gives a great perspective of what the climber is doing in detail. My wife was wide-eyed! (cue innuendo...)
  15. I'd be up for that - bit of a drive from Bristol but if there's beer and trees...
  16. They were class 1 flip flops, it's ok.
