  1. I have created a south west user-group and invited a couple of members that I know are in the area. Sign up if you are in the vicinity. Use it to find out who is in the area - network to find subbies, employers, suppliers, etc.... Who knows, if we get a good group going we could always meet up for a climb and a beer at some point. cheers, Paul
  2. Nice one Lee - sounds like a great idea. Will run it past the chief and let you know. John - I had a similar thought recently re regional groups. There seem to be more members popping up here in the south west and it makes sense for people to put faces to names and have a good bit of networking and meet up for the odd jolly.
  3. Spent 2 weeks on Islay a few years back - what a stunning place. And the whisky was pretty good too...
  4. Sounds like you have a good attitude red squirrel - you will obviously not be the sort of person that martyn1 is complaining about. I think that overall honesty is the key here - if applicants are honest about their ability and expect to earn an honest wage then it's all good. Things just fall apart when employers are lied to, and understandably they get annoyed!
  5. I had a quick hang in the Sequoia at the arb show. I instantly found that the bridge is too low for me and I was constantly tipping backwards. Maybe this is adjustable? I found the same thing with the Austria Duo 2 as well. Maybe I have got too used to the position that my horribly uncomfortable Butterfly holds me in...
  6. When I saw this thread title I thought Mike was offering to host an arbtalk Christmas do! I guess Norway would be a little far for that though.
  7. Jonesie does the Stein from £35 for just the helmet. There are 2 others on his list as well but not sure how they are different.
  8. Stein lid looks nice. I see you have the Peltor muffs on it Reg - do you know if the normal mesh visor will still fit across the front of the helmet too?
  9. I agree Ed - I think many Arb companies have some serious catching up to do in terms of offering a level of professionalism that is expected and delivered in most other industries. However, from the little I know of the AA assessment schedule to become an approved contractor it seems that quite a bit of the criteria is either fairly irrelevant (i know this may be subjective) or unattainable for small companies which seems unfair.
  10. I like to wear my ballistics to nightclubs and bars. And throw sawdust on myself too for the authentic look.
  11. Cool, that makes sense Jason. I think personally I am probably too tight to splash out on nice kit for work - but fair play if you do. I bet you're more comfortable than me!
  12. Looks like you have a good thing going there Josh. Nice one for giving thanks where thanks is due.
  13. Uh, no - that gear is made for mountaineering. Don't consider that work do you? I'll stick with the army gore-tex to get torn up rather than a £200 jacket ta.
  14. I would never wear such pukka outdoor kit to work! Love my mountain kit but never mix it up with work gear!!
  15. Percentages are too open to interpretation in my opinion.
  16. I assume you have seen this? http://www.arbjobs.com/jobdetail.asp?ID=561
  17. Bit odd how the last picture on the ebay ad is of a different truck! The tidy paint job puts me off!
  18. Ha ha - that is me actually - I had a pic of an ugly bloke that goes by the same name as me for a day. That pic is at the start of the OMM which may explain the gruff look.
  19. Like silvafox I suspected it may be a climatic/waterlogged reason. I know of one chap that has used a terravent to aerate the soil around a poorly Lebanese cedar and that has recovered very well. Your case may be different however?
  20. Great shaping Marc and Quentin. Nice to be good at the more creative element of the job!
  21. I can't believe that as the Bank of England drops their rates, some banks such as Abbey and Lloyds are upping their rates on some mortgages! I am due to remortgage soon so was hoping I might be in for a better deal but it's not looking that way. Similarly I couldn't believe my ears a few weeks ago when I heard that OPEC were going to drop oil production to push demand and prices back up! They only just dropped from an all time high for goodness sake!! Here endeth my mini-rant.
  22. Tried that Peter - mine ain't so cool as yours though... that's not actually me by the way, I'm much less fit looking than him.
