  1. It was on a golf course so I imagine they wanted to keep the 'divots' area to a minimum.
  2. Just saw this over at the Treehouse - great vid that I though was worth sharing...[ame] [/ame]
  3. Will do. I'll stop for a chat if I see you!
  4. That's my 'hood Barney! Not saying that the tree officers here are a bad bunch at all - we have some excellent guys, but I was impressed by the london bunch's approach. ps - passed your chestnut on Jacob's Wells road yesterday - very nice work mate.
  5. Had one for a bit over two years and loved it. Very reliable and surprisingly cheap to run - I had a 2.4 diesel rather than the petrol. Only negatives that I found were: 1. poorer performance off road with no weight in the back. 2. replaced seals round ball joints as these kept leaking - apparently fairly common. 3. guzzled fuel on the motorway but I expected that I didn't pay much for mine which was a 1990 G reg but it did me proud. Great for ferrying loads of logs, pulling the chip truck out of the mud and pulling over big trees.
  6. By the way, i noticed a pretty hazardous dead oak over the footpath in Grovelands park in case that's one of yours! But seriously, I am always impressed with the trees in London; massive Planes on small streets that overhang multi-million pound houses/huge parks full of mature trees/nice patches of woodland in between urban estates - it's great. Well done London!
  7. I spent 5 days in London over christmas and took a few walks around parks and nearby woods while i was there. I was struck by some of the differences in tree management compared with home in Bristol. I noticed quite a bit of tree work aimed at encouraging dead wood or early retrenchment - eg coronet cuts, tear cuts, and creating monoliths. I realise that probably across London there are different arb officers with different habits/aims but wondered if London and the arbs there are attempting to be a bit more cutting edge (no pun intended) than those elsewhere. I don't know too much about the LTOA (london tree officers association) - are they regarded as forerunners in their field? FWIW I think I was on monkeyd's patch quite a bit but also down in Richmond Park. It was good to see something different from the constant reductions and pollards that happen around here.
  8. John, don't you think he should have been wearing protective gloves, poor little lad? Great pic mate!
  9. I can vouch for Treelife also - very impressed with their tuition and support. A friend of mine did the Myerscough course and didn't enjoy it either. He has passed now but it took 2 years and I think he wished he had done the treelife course.
  10. i'd still buy a transporter - no worries towing a trailer on that. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/03-53-vw-transporter-t4-2-5tdi-5-seater-kombi_W0QQitemZ180301095509QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item180301095509&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:7|39:1|240:1318 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VolkswagenVW-TRANSPORTER-2-5-TDI-T4-SURF-BUS-CAMPER-76K_W0QQitemZ280293494850QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item280293494850&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:7|39:1|240:1318 but that's just me. I had a hilux for a few years and loved it. Recommend them for reliability but not for mpg on the motorway!
  11. If you want some nice wheels for the odd camping trip and what not, why not go for a VW Transporter - you should get a pretty decent one for 7.5k. Loads of room, look cool, diesel engines will give very good mpg... ...unless you actually need to go off road of course.
  12. Good link Stuart. Another on here: http://www.communities.gov.uk/documents/planningandbuilding/pdf/overgardenhedge.pdf
  13. As Dean said, you can cut back to the boundary bit it may well look pretty terrible. If they are causing an 'actionable nuisance' to the your customers property then you can seek enforcement to have them cut back - but this means something like physical damage to buildings or perhaps pathways. If it is a height issue then the neighbours must try and talk it out and come to an agreement. If they can't agree they should get a mediator. Failing that they can ask the council arb officer to come and take a look. They can use government guidelines to assess whether the height is above what is deemed reasonable in terms of casting shade on to your customers property - particularly shade of windows of the main living areas of the house. The council will most likely charge for this regardless of the outcome. I would let them negotiate and get back to you with their decision - messy business!
  14. Wow - still getting compliments 9 months later! Was obviously a good 'un Rich!
  15. Maybe fluffy bunny already has a different qualification for his job such as a Tech cert or something? No harm in adding the PTI on top.
  16. Just a guess, but bicarbonate of soda might do it? I thought this was going to be a thread about scale on lime trees!!
  17. Is the draw tonight now? What time do we overload the chat room? Dig deep people - let's make the £2k mark!
  18. But you still couldn't break in to my hilux though could ya! Oh, back on track - nice fid thingy.
  19. Well it is the international edition with card reader so no paper cash needed - all plastic darling!! You know you are tempted! (and I am thirsty)
  20. That is horrible. You must have been glad to leave site at the end of that day.
  21. If we ever get to meet I will happily swap my board game for your whisky!!
  22. We got a the Monopoly board game from my sister-in-laws mother-in-law!!! Firstly why on earth would she feel the need to buy us anything, and secondly why would she think I would want to play monopoly?!!
