  1. Cheers Ed!
  2. Arborist. Surely if you have a knowledge of trees which informs how you work with them you can have this title?
  3. While on holiday in the Peaks I spotted this fine fellow on an ash. I think it is I. hispidus. You can see it exuding drops of liquid from the underside - apparently this may be to dry underlying wood to a more favourable moisture content for the fungus. (Lonsdale).
  4. Looks like it could be Perenniporia fraxinia to me.
  5. Hi Marcus, Thanks so much for these posts - great to have the facts from the horses mouth so to speak! regards, Paul
  6. Fantastic vid! Looks like a proper hardcore job working in that environment.
  7. Ooops!! Schoolboy error.
  8. Nicely done. Is that you then Mani?
  9. Move your chair a bit closer
  10. Are there fine hairs on the veins on the underside? I was taught that was a feature of platyphyllos as Ed suggested.
  11. Hi Alastair, and welcome to the forum. Hope you will find lots of info here. If you have a bit of a search though some old threads you will see quite a few that have addressed your question in terms of advice of how to start out. Firstly, are you sure you want to neglect your degree in Landscape architecture? I would say there is more money in that than tree work. ...but it is probably less fun! I would advise you to get your basic NPTC tickets CS30 and CS31 and then you can approach some local companies for work as a trainee groundsman. Then if you are still keen on tree work you can add your climbing tickets later. The college courses (such as NC Arb) are good but you will learn far more on site if you are with a good team. cheers, Paul
  12. Been married almost 3 years now - absolutely love it. Have a great day EYT (sorry don't know your name yet) and an even better marriage.
  13. Well done Dean - wish there were more people around like you. I was sad to hear the report recently about the lady who confronted some people about smoking in a train station and was pushed on to the tracks as a result. Some would say it wasn't her place to enforce the rules but I am sure we all agree that the appropriate response wasn't to cause her any harm. I have only ever had grief for confronting people about what I consider unacceptable behaviour - not been stabbed yet though.... mind you, I am a bit of a pernickety git - I have stopped quite a few people in the street for dropping litter which may be a bit over the top.
  14. Whoops. Now are you going to post lots of videos of you showing us how to do it properly?
  15. I'm not sure about that? I thought 'occluded' bark was bark that had formed over an old wound - i.e. an indicator of health/vigour if the tree is sealing it's wounds well.
  16. Blimey - is elvis Mikee?! Hello mate!
  17. That guy would be Gerry Beranek. I believe he is a good friend of MB's for what it's worth.
  18. Brilliant pics - looked like a tough job that went well. Thanks for sharing them.
  19. LOL!! You're a funny bugger Mike.
  20. I'm no expert but I bought a Felt bike a year or so ago and it has been brilliant. Google them and see what you think. My advice would be to go for a hardtail rather than full suspension if you aren't doing any serious downhill stuff.
  21. Climbed a few manna ash - they are very snappy with weak forks in the crown. Great pics Ben.
  22. Nice one steve - it should have been a 'guess the next picture' quiz.... Nothing flattened this time. I think they are moving a norway spruce for a christmas tree.
  23. Check out these guys!
  24. Ha ha - you smart ass!
