  1. I know that this is the case with roots - surprisingly common law allows a neighbour to cut branches and roots back to the boundary! If the tree were to fail because of the root pruning though, the neighbour that cut them would be at fault. Makes sense if this rule were to also apply to limbs.
  2. I didn't know it was a requirement. But then I do know that it suggests using 2 lifelines where possible and I never do that either. Do you?
  3. Welcome back cernearb. I am off to the peaks for a week later this month - any top recommendations as well as Kinder scout? Have been to Hathersage and surrounding area a bit before. We are staying in Tideswell this time.
  4. I do often carry a handsaw but not when I am removing the tree. I don't think the TH poll made that distinction. I see your point though Tim about it being handy for the little 'uns you want to cut and chuck.
  5. Never used one but will bear your advice in mind. I must say I have never thought of using a silky saw for removals - why would you do that? Do you have limitations on noise or something?
  6. Looks good Steve! Dare i ask the asking price?!
  7. Blimey - another extract from there: "A few weeks ago we paid £650 (inc VAT) for a 50m lleyandii hedge trimming, 2 laburnum trees, 1 massive lleyandii and 3 scots pine trunks (branchless) removing - our guy took all the waste away and left the garden looking tidier than when he turned up - took him all day, with 5 staff."

    Phew

Found out today (at last!) that I have passed all my written exams for the tech cert. I am so relieved! Now all i've got to do is study all summer to pass the management day in september!

  10. Yep. Me and carl work together once a week - together with Danners, Aimee and Stu (j r hartly).
  11. If there really is plenty of room (as the vote option says) I can't think of a reason why you would ever chog it down rather than fell it. Do everything the easiest way possible!
  12. I think a toilet would be more appropriate. Welcome Adam!
  13. If it is dead give them 5 days notice. And take some photos of it to prove it is dead in case they don't get to looking at it and question it afterwards.
  14. Don't know an awful lot about computers but have had a mac for 3 years now and never had a problem with it. Can be a bit frustrating now and then with compatibility issues for bits of hardware and the odd website but overall I love it. Hoping to get a Macbook soon as well.
  15. Thats more like it, thanks Steve.
  16. These are interesting points monkeyd - do you feel that the interpretation of results by people with extensive knowledge is a good or a bad thing? I think you are right about the measuring the trees function from a positive viewpoint rather than looking for negatives too. Seems maybe it is a tool for general tree assessment for populations rather than last minute decay detection for individuals?
  17. On friday night you can't keep your eyes open in the pub.
  18. All of it? I haven't been doing this 20 years yet but talking to people that have I can't agree with your statement. eg we are not painting wounds any more, cable bracing is much less intrusive, we have more knowledge about pests and diseases, working practices are safer, decay detection technology has made vast leaps, protection for trees on development sites has begun to improve........
  19. Crikey, not one dig? Thanks guys. All credit to Carl (high scale) and Dan really - I was merely traffic control and pick up sticks man.
