  1. No, it was on the demo circuit in the bottom corner at the arse end of nowhere Think the one you are talking about may have been Honey Brothers
  2. Agree re food, price, etc, etc. Think the demo circuit could have been in two sections to make it easier. Thought the maps where utter pants. OK having a map for each area but there should have been an overview/full site layout so poeple could keep thier bearings. Appreciate the feedback re arb demo stuff. I was actually working on a demo stand for most of the show. Part of the stand was a have-a-go climbing, if I get chance next APF I will try to get the college to let us do a sectioning down demo or something similar at least once a day. Interesting point re cost - I was told (but cant verify) that on the husqvarna demo stand where you had chance to try out some of thier saws, they (husqvarna) where charged £18/tree that was felled .

Nice to meet up with a few of you to put put some faces to names but not as many as I would have liked. Ended up working on National School of Forestry (Newton Rigg) stand on the demo circuit Thur, Fri & Sat am helping on the have-a-go tree climbing . The main part of thier stand was demo of some ergonomic tree felling techniques. Will post some photos when I get them sorted which includes some interesting felling cuts (might even run a name that cut comp - but dont get excited cos if i provide a prize it will be pretty crap )
  6. I still just use glucose and swear by it. Cheap as chips (or cheaper than!) and you can mix up whatever flavour u want. Also very good for hangovers

    Stihl four mix

Apparently its a stihl thing according to local dealer. There was a delay on production so they aint got enough to go round due to back orders. Not my explanation but my dealers
  8. Very good lesson Dave, thanx As far as speed vs cost vs customer satisfaction I think the biggest problem is that most customers just do not realise how much machinery etc costs. For example a high prop of domestc customers ask about grinding. When given a price a high % just and dont realise how much a grinder costs because they equate along the lines of going to a tool hire for a rotovator etc. Like many parts of our trade, public perception, realisation and understanding is very poor.
  9. Normally small/medium me + one, large + 2/3 Also depends if need tug line etc etc

Hope it went well Dean. Getting too close to the season and not spent enough time with that little black sod of mine Chris Keeper has lost a couple of dog men this season, so if you fancy an odd day out let me know and will see what I can do (good crack and loads of p-takeing etc)

  12. I’ve been forced to lay-off for a while, so it was nice to put a harness back on (no matter what the size!). Too close to the house (over), small drop zone, glass roofed porch, poor access and the obligatory phone line but a nice relaxed few hrs and it didn’t even rain! No need to comment on the stubs Pete, remember I’m built for comfort New there was base decay but quite surprised by how extensive it was.

    Do you work them Chris?
  14. Personal choice Mine has'nt, run it on standard 1.1mm 12" bar and is spot on. Think 18st went up to 1.3mm so the mod will just have equalled things back out for power. Great little saw for the right jobs
  15. Hope you get better soon To my mind there is no need for ridicule or stating the obvious. Arbtalk is a great place for us to learn no matter if it be something new or a painfull reminder of what can happen!
  16. Hope you kept dry Chris
  17. Big Silky pole + lopper attachment on my list for APF Be down Thur - Sat, see you there

  19. (You get a lantra cert for attending the training - forgot that bit!)
  20. Thats how I undertand it. Lantra = training towards/preparing for NPTC unit NPTC = passing assesmnet in the module eg CS30 Only time where Lantra may be of use on its own is where HSE recomend training as opposed to specifying certification (think woodchipper was appropriate training, dont know if it is still the same) Once you have completed Lantra you can perform that task in your workplace (under supervision of a qualified person) to further develop/practice your skills before taking your NPTC assesment. I think there is however a timescale recomended between lantra training and assesment (ie not recomended to be more than 6 months or something like that) but might be wrong on that.
