  1. Gonna have a bit more of a go at carving. Done a little and starting to get the bug. Would 192 with carving bar be any good? Know it will have to be ported to get the best from it. Just been using 341 and standard bar so far but not exactly delicate! Any lighter wieght saw suggestions would be appreciated Ta
  2. Diff days, diff ways. Use what is comfortable/right for the day and be safe with it. The more ways you know how to do a job the better.

    Self Rescue

Being honest I have put mostly That answer being based on how you define 'climb' If refering to TD's etc (genuine climb) then it would be always. I will use a harness to reduce a hedge so I can use both hands but may only be 6' off the ground. My groundie would be capable of gettin me down with a set of steps (and I would only be using silky) Therefore answer = mostly
  4. Just nicked the new album of my son for a listen. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NeXsJmW31U]YouTube - Green Day - 21 Guns (Live at Abbey Road Studio) + Lyrics + MP3 Download[/ame]
  5. Co-dom stems, dont you love them - not! First time I have seen this happen right down. Put it down to the impact force/twist and the hight of the felling cut, didnt half go with a bang
  6. Someone gettin warm. not the £100
  7. All been cleared up before the fell
  8. Some pis of a couple of beech from Thursday. Bob B is doing the climbing on the copper and snedding. After we cleared up the brash etc the last job was to fell the remainder of the copper. What happened next? Will post a pic on Sunday/Monday. (sorry no prizes im skint, just a bit of fun!)
  9. I was told the forest/agri exemption did not apply to my Iveco, just mogs etc.
  10. Just going through the operator licence stuff with my Iveco. If it is 5.3T and not down rated as far as I know and have been told by VOSA it will need: Operators licence (can be retricted for arb if you do not carry other peoples goods for profit. You still need to jump through the same hoops and at the same cost as a full operators licence) A calibrated tacho (you can claim exemprion under similar conditions to above provided you do not travel further than 50km from your base, but will not pass MOT without one) It aint worth getting it wrong, ask for advice from VOSA, they are actually human!
  11. p.s. A Knot is a nautical mile per hour (kn) A Kilonewton is an SI unit of force (kN) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KN
  12. Weight calcs or force calcs? Just my view, its a forum!
  13. I agree that there is a big difference BUT it does bring up a very good point that has not been looked at during the thread. People are understandably concerned by weight but safety wise we MUST look at things in force kN not kg (weight). Every climber will exert a force on his equipment greater than that of his static weight. Calculations of force can be calculated (ie rigging etc) but its far easier just to get a krab => 22kN
  14. Should be able to perform any rescue with/utilising standard climbing kit. No point relying on special kit thats hidden in the back of the van or got left at home.
  15. Totally agree
  16. For what its worth imo 2 - 5 Change with changes in emvironment (abmormal wind direction, surrounding cover, protection, etc increse/no changes or abnormal conditions decrease) How long is a piece of string (appart from exactly twice as long as half its length)
  17. Thread just reminded me to get the sander out to remove some strange paint from a couple of new cones
  18. Now use nothing but Aspen. A few probs with set up to start with (blower in particular) but once set all OK. Dont do forestry type contracts so dont use gallons of the stuff, therefore cost increase is insignificant overall. Dont bother putting it in saws that have not been looked after or run on 'about that much' mix.
  19. About £30. But only get new ones when even the dog refuses to pick up the old ones

    Beginners Books

For tree health/growth/etc look at Matthecks 'Stupsi' books and Modern Arb by Shigo.
  21. I think the fact that you are uncertain how to price really means you should go day rate. Nothing to stop you working out what you would quote for the whole job and see how near you are when finished - good practice for when you cant go in at day rate!
  22. Dave,

Got it through a friend who knew it was coming up for sale. It’s the older model (D23/2004) but has only done 25K genuine miles.

Really pleased so far, even better now I have changed the tyres to BFG’s – it was still on its originals! Handles well, a lot more power than I expected and pulls chipper no problem.

Just found out I should be getting a 90K engine warranty through from Nissan as well!

  23. Had 3 at tea time (only so much insurance u can take!) Hilux (just departed). Frontera - old family vehicle, hopefully to depart at weekend. Navara - new (2nd hand) work/family vehicle
  24. Agree with a lot of the posts above. One thing that I have noticed and may be part of the reason Pete feels how he does is that as the site has grown so has the number of members and the diversity of views. Obvious really that as member numbers grow so does the chance of conflict. Please keep posting Pete. So long as the site does not allow preferential posting/treatment and views expressed are fair/professional/honest it should remain a valuable asset for all of us that use/contibute to it.
