  1. Running costs obviously up but a big difference on work days, normally get a full trees chip in one visit which ends up saving time and money. In the end I think it is working out cheaper than running a 3.5t. Don't regret getting it.
  2. Went down the restricted O L last year with a 52C11. A lot of hassle but worth it in the long run. Sounds like you have everything about right to me.
  3. Been away for a few days and just seen this thread. Read a few post (sorry cant be bothered to go through 10 pages ) I actually think there should be 3 questions: 1 - Do you ever use a 200T 1 handed? 2 - Do you cut and hold? 3 - Should training be given? To me the difference between cutting 1 handed away from your body on the end of a limb on a big reduction and cutting and holding is massive. I am not even going to explain why because it should be common sense. Should training be give? Give some people an inch and they will take a mile. If you are constantly in a position where you think you need to cut and hold buy a sling! (or even better carry on to do as you wish - but be careful not to promote it to those who are not fully aware of the potential consequences )
  4. Dont understand your logic behind this post or how you must climb for that matter. If you cannot relay your way up a tree with a single line there has been a big chunk of your training missed. Plus the original post did not relate to how to climb, but secondary tie in when cutting the way I read it? I will use 2 points for 95% of the time (occasionally a third but that will be just for positioning)
  5. Currently running Iveco 5.2 on restricted licence. Licence can be a pita at times - You can do your own checks etc but must be able to prove competence. One extra point you must also be able to prove financially sound - 3 months with over £3.5K available to be able to maintain/repair vehicle.
  6. Couple of favourites, don't really know why - just a nice day/job.

    sky seat

Just sold a 2nd hand Svensk Tradsvard sky seat (the original I think not the Komet). It was about 10 years old though so don't know where/if you can get them now. Nod at Treeworker keeps popping up on the google search so it might be worth contacting him.

    192t

Just to back up/clarify what Pete has said - They are not a 200t replacement - different saw/different jobs They are a VERY GOOD LIGHTWEIGHT SAW in their own right Talked to Stihl at APF and got fobbed off so ended up tying him up on his own words coz he had NEVER USED ONE and constantly compared it to a 200t. How can Stihl dealers really comment about a saw they may only have had glimpse of? (no disrespect to the dealer) 192's are sold here so a lot of the parts are available. I honestly believe Stihl could do really well here with this saw IF it was marketed for what it is. (If you put one of the lightweight 12" 200t bar/chain on and port/re-tune it does not end up that far short of a stock 200t! - as things stand it IS NOT warranted in the UK so there is nothing lost provided you re-tune with a taco) How many 192t threads are there on here now? Just about deserves its own dedicated section
  9. Thanks for posting Dan. A true inspiration along with Stue
  10. Not online. Only thing of the net is the updates.
  11. Did you make a backup and use this to recover things on the new system Steve? If so did it work OK bricking it about loosing everything. Rich
  12. Been using Quick books pro since, ehhh, 2008 probably. Getting slower and slower to load up, it never was fast to load but its just turning into a real pita Anyone else finding the same/found any fix?
  13. Visor attachments lock solid on mine, took it back to the dealer who contacted Stein (FS), not interested in the slightest. New helmet every time you get scratch on the visor after a few months? I think not. Buying another? not a chance in hell. Stein on the up in my opinion? I think not!

    353 vs 346

2nd earlier comments re 365. For a logging saw with flexibility on bar size + the £'s its a great saw. Had mine nicked earlier this year and couldn't afford to replace it on the insurance payout. I used it a lot for sectioning down with a 24" bar on, not the fastest but fast enough and a lot easier to handle than 460!
  15. Just found these that my daughter took the other day
  16. First thing I would do is stick some a/t's on. Didn't know about the clutch, thanks. Thought about disco but most of the cheaper ones I have seen are well and truly trashed, seems to me that for the money got better chance of finding a well looked after Freelander. Because it is an additional vehicle to the Navara it has to be on a tight budget I'm afraid. Thanks for the comments
  17. Thanks, No petrol then! Would be looking at about 2000 model, and it would only tow when needed, not routine. Too many threads on this place now!
  18. Sorry forgot that bit! Timberwolf 190 when chip to stay on site (just over 1T).
  19. Anybody got any Freelander experience? D23 Navara has just gone bang and I feel a long argument with Nissan coming on. Therefore I may need something to get me through winter. Reason I'm looking at Freelander is I need 4 seats, there are plenty about at reasonable £ and should re-sell OK if the Navara gets sorted. Any advice/experience appreciated.
  20. Glad it went well for you. Sounds like it was a single climber job? Don't really want to come across like a miserable git but if it was make sure you are fully aware of the 'what ifs' (do a risk assessment - even a mental one). It could have cost you a lot more than it was worth.
  21. Can I have some free fuel coz I think there is still only me buying it from my dealer (bit of reverse philosophy there )
  22. Brother in law gave me a good tip re brake pipes: Clean all the crap off, paint them with Q Rust (Think made by hammerite now, sold at halfords etc), then when it has cured give a good coat of wax oil. A bit of hassle but they are worth looking after and will last a hell of a lot longer. p.s got a 04 D22 with 40K on, no probs so far.
  23. You can take your left hand off the saw (holding the saw with your right hand, but not in contact with the controls) while it is stationary (parked) on the other side of the stem provided no part of your body reaches over the stem - to clear brash etc from your side of the stem. Hope that makes sense
  24. Don't really get this Aspen price thing - provided your not running at a loss it will be getting booked as expenditure. Been using it for years. I only do arb not forestry and reckon it adds between 1 and 2% on the cost of a t/d for example - piss all.

    Ash die back

Very little salt during winter. Both trees have die back to a varying degree/time scale but just in specific areas of the crowns (toward the road). Half of the tree which has just started to defoliate looks really healthy
