  1. Would you not need to lock it in positive flow as float is mainly used for lowering trailers and running some implements but the log splitter we have got has a lever on it with the pipe from the tractor to the log splitter is flow and the one going from the splitter back to the tractor is the return line. Matt
  2. Yeah I saw those but did not know if they could be used would depend if the dimensions were the same. Matt
  3. Hi I have been given a Jonsered 2050 that I was planning to get going to use as a backup saw the cylinder looks good on it but as it is apart I may as well put a new piston and ring on it as it looks pretty worn. I just wondered if anyone knew of a piston supplier for these saws could not see much on ebay or other online chainsaw parts websites. I did read it was the same 44mm piston as used in the husqvarna 49. If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful to hear them. Thanks Matt
  4. Thanks for the info I bought it as a project the person before could not get it to start the cause was low compression as the rings were coked up and stuck, I could not really find any meteor pistons for that saw i noticed some of the american forums mention VEC pistons but not sure on quality. I did clean the aluminium transfer off the cylinder but did not bevel the ports so that could be part of the issue but the rings on the replacement piston seem really soft as well thanks Matt
  5. Hi I have got a Stihl 039 that will be in need of a new piston before too long put a non oem one in there and it must be pretty soft as it has started to get chewed up already when looking through the exhaust port. What make do people recommend? Thanks Matt
  6. I bought a stihl 261 chainsaw and i noticed that it looks quite damp around the area where the mufler bolts onto the cylinder it looks like the bolts need to be tightened up but i cannot see how to get at them. I thought i had a workshop manual for it but i cannot seem to find it. It has not done a lot of work as it has only had about 4 or 5 tanks of fuel through it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Matt
  7. i have a combo van and it seems to hold up ok, i can get 50mpg when it is not loaded but as it is a 1.7 non turbo it drops to about 30-35 as you have to put the boot in on thie hills but it is 12/13 years old so probably not what it used to be when new. isurance is pretty good under 400 for commercial 3rd party fire and theft last year for a 22 year old, the engines are isuzu so a pretty solid, the only weakness with vauxhalls apparently is the cambelt changes need to be kept on top of as they seem to fail more regularly than others don;t know if this applies to the izusu engine or just the vauxhall ones. matt
  8. Don't know if anyone saw the metro newspaper (was on the train and had nothing to read) but in the section where people can write in one person said that as they make some money back from timber sales and such like the money the government would get from selling the land off would be spent within 12 years don't know where he got his figures from though
  9. How close are we talking? I know it makes it more awkward for you but something to bear in mind trees close to buildings should be removed gradually otherwise there is a risk of ground movements as the water level will rapidly increasing potentially causing cracks in the brickwork of the property. Matt
  10. Could you also pm me a price by the roadside Matt
  11. Was thinking of doing a simular thing with my van over the summer but just get chip oil, filter it and mix it 50/50 with diesel as this will save having to process it. Also i heard that if too much methanol is used in the processing stage it can eat the natural rubber which is used in older vehicles, so will knacker my fuel pump. Matt
  12. ok thanks so it looks like i wil need a higher class of protection, also does anyone know what the warranty is i thought it was 12 months but someone was telling me that if it is just used for domestic purposes it is 2 years but i cannot find this on the stihl site Thanks Matt
  13. Anyone happen to know the max chain speed of a 261 was thinking of getting a 16" bar but i just wanted to check that it will be within the limits of the class 1 trousers (20m/s). I cannot find this info anywhere, would it be simular to the 18.5 quoted by husqvarna for the 346xp Thanks Matt
  14. Had the same problem with my combo but with mine the panel just below the windscreen had a small crack in it just above the heater so filled the heater up and as soon as you turned it on it just dumped all the water in the footwell was about 1 inch deep by the pedals i think the underlay is glued down but with mine i could get the rubber floor up if you unscrew some of the trim around the door just had to get a mop in there firts and just had to keep putting newspaper under neath it every couple of days. It didnt help the rubber floor mat had a big crack in it. Still have not got around to putting it back together. Seems to be ok now. Matt
  15. I went into a local stihl dealer the other day as i saw the 261 and they also had a 341 and there was not much difference in the weight, if anything the 341 felt lighter/more balanced even though it is supposed to be heavier Matt
