  1. Thinking about a pair of the carbons but unsure about the size thing. At 6'4" I know I will need the lerge, but does anyone no how 'large' compares to a normal set on max length? Ta
  2. Good advice, might get up to £100 by next year if things pick up
  3. Dont n wont. Cash payment goes to bank same as a cheque

    aspen 2

A good point but just as valid for the 2st mix you will put in normal fuel!

    aspen 2

Use Aspen for last couple of years and allways will. I dont do 'forestry' type cutting though. To put it into perspective last job £650, Aspen used - about 4ltrs. I think I can justify this for the benifits to me and my saws (and I also use bio chain oil at 2x the price of normal!) I buy it from my husqy/stihl dealer so we both know I am running saws on the correct mix!
  6. Just turn up for the course, you will get a work book then. IMO if you have done a fair bit of work after 31 you will find 32 easy enough. As you may be cutting up to 2x bar accuracy is importent. You should know what bench felling is after 31 but a lot dont teach it (ergonomics). Yes you should have to use a winch to stabalise crown, eg on a slope. You will also use one to take down hung trees (as 31 but with winch). Best tip - dont make it more complicated than it actually is and you will be fine
  7. Hire a jobeau or greenmech and make sure the blade is as blunt as the TW if u want to compare like for like Why hire a machine to see how it performs if it is not maintained? As for elbow bashing dont think i have ever done that (6'4") the wife hasnt (5'4") niether has anyone else who has operated it. Put stuff in the top, it comes out the other end chipped (only had blockages when chipping into dumpy bags and the groudy let it get too full and blocked the outlet) GM's and JB's are better machines, but a maintained TW is a good machine if you are on a budget.
  8. The biggest down side about the 13/75 is the outlet. But if you have to remove chip from site just loop dumpy bag handles over the outlet shoot handle = bagged and no mess. SWB is right that these machines are great but it does tale a bit more prep before chipping. 5 min more sneddin down will save 20 chippin. It doen not matter how long stuff is just take out the knuckles
  9. How much are you going to use it first of all? Then decide on value. I got a 13/75 (2003 I think) and I would not change it for anything esp now its running in tandem with my 190. It cost me £2.5K new with a spare set of blades. Alternating the blades/servicing is all its ever had. I have not used it for a month or two but can guarantee it would still fire up on 1st pull. No doubt the JB's may well be 'better', but is it worth the trade off in cost? That will depend on the use, etc.
  10. I am on the planet that talks to people. When I visited VOSA they where human and helpfull. People should do as they see fit and live with it. I will comply with what I have been told and live with it. The VOSA office I visited was at the opposite end of the country from you so we may not have spoken to the same person. Oh ****, I forgot to tar everyone with the same brush!
  11. Like that Dean, just the sort of small set up I would love, but the bank manager wouldn't
  12. Only send reciept back if asked. I ask if paid on the day if they would like a reciept and I have only ever had 1 private customer say yes. Most dont even want a copy of the invoice!

  16. Thinking about getting this one, although twice the price, Arbortech Industrial Woodcarver : Buy Arbortech Industrial Woodcarver at Axminster Power Tool Centre They also do a small version which looks as if it could be good Arbortech Mini Carver : Buy Arbortech Mini Carver at Axminster Power Tool Centre

    Tacho

Need to get a tacho for setting up/checking saws etc (combination of porting, aspen, etc). Any recomendations would be appreciated. Ta
  18. Dont forget diet is just as important as exercise. I find double beans on toast (without butter on the toast) the night before gives me that extra lift for big climbs.
  19. Nice stuff Ed, would have loved to have seen that stuff in action!

    Dead Elms

No offence taken Yeh I would have. It would have made the stupid get acting as banksman at the bottom run even faster! (must admit I did get a slight twitch when the stem took off so fast - dead wood, loose bark, 45 degree slope n all that stuff)

    Dead Elms

Just found the face cuts right for the job. The lad I did the climbing for ended up giving all the firewood away bar a couple of T I managed to get away

    Dead Elms

Was actually tied in behind the back stem and moved round to the dide to make felling cut easier. Any movement would have put me safe round the back. A bit deceptive on the vid.
