  1. Looking into a new 60cc saw and need feedback! I realise there have been threads scimming around about these saws, but would like to hear from anyone who has run both. I am not after a slagging match, or comparison of brands but more information about feel of each saw. Like is the saw well balanced, feel of power, usability, ease of maintenance, any querky bits etc. I realise there will not be loads of people out there who know both saws, but any info would be valuable at this time. Many thanks, Pete.
  2. Hi Jamie, good to see you still drop in here from time to time. Are you doing a bit of tree work again or is the kit for your sky walking?
  3. Get him to drive you! I would be hopping mad! Get down there in a taxi if needs be!
  4. Totally agree, but unfortunately there are an exceptional amount of people out there running rigs that will get them in big trouble if there was a major accident, regardless how they try and convince others, and even themselves they are "ok" to carry on.
  5. Yogi, I was not having a go at you by any means. As Stevie says it has been covered before and the resulting threads have turned out with some "differing" opinions! Hence why I posted my can of worms, I could see where it was likely to go! Another good question you may want to ask on the mog subject is "what limitations are there using red diesel in mogs?" Room for more discussion, and many others but dont stop asking, its a good way of learning. Also gives interesting reading at times!
  6. Are back garden conifers not "urban" forestry?
  7. It would help mate if you gave a rough idea where you are, or better still, fill in a bit more of your profile:thumbup1:
  8. I think its possible the pully in the DMM could fowl on the cheek of the main pully, therefore I wouldnt bother with that. On mine I have cut out the small ring and connect the carab direct into the webbing loop. You do need to take notice of the radius of the carab you use though, it should not be small enough to affect the natural "lay" of the webbing. Also, to note if you are to use this setup with these carabs, you need to absolutely sure when swinging on the axis of the saver, the gates cannot rub on either each other, or the stem. I do use a system similar to your origional Johnny, but as the others say the pear shaped mallion would be safest to overcome the issues, just linking the pully on, possibly with the ring cut out and just use the big saver ring. Not fully friction free, but a massive difference to just using a plain cambium saver.

    Free range?

Unfortunately, ex layers are not used for such glamorous uses! Organic does not mean healthy conditions, still intensive.
  10. Dare say I'll get shot down for this, but it may have been messed around with a tad. The decal on the front should mean its the later 200tdi engine. If its got the td in it something doesnt tally up.
  11. It has nothing to do with resale value, reliability, comfort, cost to run, repair or even ability. You can argue the toss all day. You either like land rovers or you dont:001_rolleyes:
  12. Cutting the hinge is easily done like that with a larger saw. Usually its when the felling cut is only between 1 + 1.5 x bar length. 2 x bar seem to be easier to avoid sticking the tip through when running around the back. In this situation following the plunge, I would have probably brought the tip further towards the back of the felling cut before going around the back, hence then you can hold the saw further out when going around the back. Sure no one needs to teach you how to suck eggs, but its a common and easy mistake usually due to impatience. Spending a little more time dressing the hinge and preparing the next stage of the back cut usually pays off.
  13. Very Nice fell at the end Daniel. Almost perfect if you hadnt cut the hinge between 1.50 and 1.55 Nice work.
  14. Currently £4.30 plus vat at the moment. Worth trying them if you dont get fixed up mate.
  15. Not sure I have time to get it cut down to floor boards and fitted before winter if I was honest, but the tunnel will soon be having the doors closed so should keep it something like dry. At present I have work fully booked until the new year so I guess its starting to look like a spring time job now. Hope your mate gets sorted with some nice stuff, and does it sound like there will be no chance of pics even when finished Tom?
  16. Cheers Jonathan, mine has been in a poly tunnel all this year and last week was around 10-11% but guess it will soon be getting wetter again as autumn moves in. Could well be time to get it fitted if its going to warp a bit.
  17. Can I ask why kiln dried specifically Tom? I do have air dried Elm, in 2" planks, 2 years seasoned and most upto 20" wide. About 16 boards 8 feet long. It was destined for my lounge floor if it doesnt sell:001_rolleyes:
  18. Could it be its almost strangled with ivy, and having its roots pruned the combination of stress has sent it into decline?
  19. Yep, tried allsorts. Blank white box, nothing in it. Clicky click, still nothing:confused1: Not sure why Im so bothered TBH, not as if I'll ever buy one:001_rolleyes:
  20. Nope, still a square with nothing inside it!
  21. So what about the vid then? Can anyone else see it, all I can see is a blank square? Some very good points for this type of thing Justin, and as you say it is the way forward and there is niche for them. The speed they catch on may be an issue in my opinion. I do find it interesting though about it ticking the "spark free" requirement box. I have worked on sites requiring such in the past, yet anyone who has ever used a saw in the dark will know there are many sparks created by a saw in operation and they dont all come from the exhaust:sneaky2:
  22. Not seeing a vid here tbh Ed. Why would you say its probably no good to climb with? Is it just battery life or something else?
  23. Its a pruning was though, dont think it says its ok to use on the floor:confused1:
